Can't agree more. And in my opinion, sth in addition, geographical factors of China. Most of the time, China faces only strong nomad enemies from the north until the west finally showed up so aggressively on the sea in 19th century. Also unlike Rome whose economy is based on continuous conquering and slavery, most of the time, China doesn't attempt to rule around by force, almost every expansion of past Chinese empires is either counter-attack or long-term cultural influence on others.
