looks good but like @PSRack says, the eclipse died after the 3rd gen came out, 201 hp still doesn't match up to the 210 hp of the GSX but would still make a good little sports car that will turn heads
Actually they likely did it because the Evo is the AWD turbo-charged car Mitsu wants to sell without competing against itself. The Lancer now comes in the Ralliart and Ralliart Sportback models which boast AWD and a weaker turbocharged engine. To bring the Eclipse back to it's BEST form (ie 2G) would be to compete heavily against itself. Faster or not, I'll take the 2G platform all day long over any other Eclipse model. 4g63 was one of the best and more easily mod-able engines.
I loved my 1st gen, loved my 2nd gen, hated the 3rd gen (didnt buy one) and i love my 4th gen. If this becomes the ralliart... i wont be buying it either. If i wanted an evo, i would buy an evo. This thing is just horrible. Looks like a lambo and an evo had a baby with downs.

I dont know dude.. The eclipse itself is a "powerful" name in the racing wold. But even though im an owner of a 4G i still think they screwed up a bit. Dont get me wrong, the car can do 0-60 in 5.4 Secs and scare the hell out of me, but it doesent make up for not having AWD....
Sorry, but the day they decided a FWD V6 platform as the top end model was better than the AWD 4g63 was the day I lost respect for the Eclipse. 1G opened the door, 2G put some style in front of the power, 3G fell on its face losing all respect as a compact sports car, and the current model tried to regain that respect by making the same POS but with 2G-esque styling.
Let's not take away from the fact that Mitsu wanted to sell Evo's and having another turbo-charged AWD sport compact in the lineup only makes the brand compete against itself. I get that, but even so, the Eclipse has been a disgrace since the last of the 2G's rolled out of the factories.
@PSRack they decided to do that because its economical. While they research. Remember that the 4G eclipse is faster than the rest. by A LOT 1.5 seconds to be exact on 0-60. They made a HUGE leap while working on the evo. Which will be on future eclipses. The Evo XI is going to be Hybrid/Diesel. Thats going to be a huge accomplishment for mitsu. Everyone is heading in different ways. But i think they know what they are doing. After all, even though their top model was FWD, it was the best seller.

please bring back the awd 4 turbo. Awd turbo is what made the eclipse popular. putting a v6 in and making it fwd only is taking away a trademark. I mean chevy wouldn't put a v6 turbo in a corvette.

1995-1999 eclipse revieved 4 star frontal impact and 1 star side impact. 2000-2005 eclipse revieved 4 star front impact and 3 star side impact (without side airbags) and 4.5 stars (with side airbags) stop being a dumbass. the 3g is way bulkier than the 2g which makes it look like it has more muscle. thats what guys like to drive. mexicans and women drive 2g and 1g eclipse. look up videos of the 2g eclipse there are mexicans everywhere.

This looks promising. The 3G and 4G Eclipse were pretty crappy, I used to have a 3G. Wouldn't trade my Evo in for one though. But hopefully they release it, if only to try and salvage the Eclipse namesake. Mitsubishi should just stick the new 4B11T (the de-tuned one like they put in the R/A Lancer) in there and call it a day.

i think this car is being aimed more at performance oriented, and younger people who miss the 1g/2g eclipse.. a diesel makes perfect sense, because diesel engines last hella longer with less maintenance, as well as needing less tuning with more hp and torque upgrades -- however, mitsu has the lancer ralliart which is a toned down evo so i guess the cheaper choice is a t/c diesel awd eclipse, or a t/c gas awd lancer...

Umm... did you also hear an estimated 44+ MPG and close to 50 on the highway? Oh and let me specify, TURBOCHARGED DIESEL. You pay close to 4.66 for 50 MPG with a car this sweet and i doubt you'd regret it.
Diesel on average is usually 25% to 33% more expensive from unleaded. As a result MPG when calculated will actually be about 33 MPG to 29.48 MPG (Highway) when compared to unleaded fuels in terms of cost, I did use 44 MPG as base. I do agree that MPG will be better than current Eclipse and Lancer, but not as much as they advertise. I think it would be more fuel efficient/cost savings to buy a hybrid. I'm a current Eclipse owner, but gas isn't going to get cheaper and this is just my opinion.
yeah you're right about that. This one only has 201 HP while the new EVO pushes 279 HP. In another video of this same concept, they said it gets 40 MPG...HO-LY-SHIT....but damn..Diesel gas is 4.65+ now, would it really be worth it?
I think they should try to keep the Diesel. That Torque is gonna rocket that thing around twisty roads like none other. And besides , it's not like there isn't the after market for those of you who want some more HP. And Maybe i speak for my self here but i would like to have a more environmentally friendly car as well as a sporty car. and as far as i can see, this is the only car yet that is going to fulfill both of those wants at what is likely to be a reasonable price as well.
I think overall the car is good. although the 21" rims will throw off stability like crazy. it sits WAAY to high off the ground. the body work is amazing as well as the interior. I don't know about the engine though. Not impressed with the HP number. Plus with the price of Diesel skyrocketing, that might hurt the wallet a little more. but overall i'm glad they're FINALLY bringing back the AWD turbo to the eclipse! my favorite!

Some people just don't realize how good the Mitsu V6s are. Yes, a FWD drivetrain does take a lot out of the potential of an engine, but it's rather unfair to even imply that the 4G is NOT a high performer. Bolt-on N/A 4Gs DO compete with the Evo on the straightaway. It's not difficult to achieve when you're putting +/- 230whp to the ground. TDI? Uhm... keep the V6. I couldn't care less about a factory MHI turbo.

That's The way mitsubishi has done it, thats the way they will keep doing it, because its the new Gen. The 5th Gen ended with the 09 eclipse this year. New Gen starts with the 2010 Edition, which is hopefully close to the car you just saw.

uhh no it is. its the least girly looking and you can have v6 with tons of cosmetic and performance mods and they are way safer than the 2nd generation which has like a 1 star crash rating so yea the 3g is the best.

plus the 3g had over 9 recall items ranging from any thing from trans cooling which will burn one up in a heart beat to engine cooling the only recalls on the 2g were headlights

1995-1999 eclipse revieved 4 star frontal impact and 1 star side impact. 2000-2005 eclipse revieved 4 star front impact and 3 star side impact (without side airbags) and 4.5 stars (with side airbags) stop being a dumbass. the 3g is way bulkier than the 2g which makes it look like it has more muscle. thats what guys like to drive. mexicans and women drive 2g and 1g eclipse. look up videos of the 2g eclipse there are mexicans everywhere.

the best mitsubishi car was the eclipse gsx 2g. seeing the 3g eclipse and this RA concept, i can say mitsubishi motors can't create something better than gsx 2g and probably can't do it in future

This looks promising. The 3G and 4G Eclipse were pretty crappy, I used to have a 3G. Wouldn't trade my Evo in for one though. But hopefully they release it, if only to try and salvage the Eclipse namesake. Mitsubishi should just stick the new 4B11T (the de-tuned one like they put in the R/A Lancer) in there and call it a day.

i think this car is being aimed more at performance oriented, and younger people who miss the 1g/2g eclipse.. a diesel makes perfect sense, because diesel engines last hella longer with less maintenance, as well as needing less tuning with more hp and torque upgrades -- however, mitsu has the lancer ralliart which is a toned down evo so i guess the cheaper choice is a t/c diesel awd eclipse, or a t/c gas awd lancer...

a 3kgt v6 the galant v6 and keep the evo and eclipse i4 ... i mean for production costs they dont have to produce tons of 3kgts just small amounts like viper does for dodge that would be kool ... that was mitsubishis real super car ... sighs ... anyways who knows if they sell a lot of these ra's maybe mitsu will become better suited to produce a new 300gt ... although i heard the gave it the name 3000 becouse that is the year they plan on bringing it back lmbo a flying 3000gt lol ahhh i ono

Umm... did you also hear an estimated 44+ MPG and close to 50 on the highway? Oh and let me specify, TURBOCHARGED DIESEL. You pay close to 4.66 for 50 MPG with a car this sweet and i doubt you'd regret it.

Diesel on average is usually 25% to 33% more expensive from unleaded. As a result MPG when calculated will actually be about 33 MPG to 29.48 MPG (Highway) when compared to unleaded fuels in terms of cost, I did use 44 MPG as base. I do agree that MPG will be better than current Eclipse and Lancer, but not as much as they advertise. I think it would be more fuel efficient/cost savings to buy a hybrid. I'm a current Eclipse owner, but gas isn't going to get cheaper and this is just my opinion.

yeah you're right about that. This one only has 201 HP while the new EVO pushes 279 HP. In another video of this same concept, they said it gets 40 MPG...HO-LY-SHIT....but damn..Diesel gas is 4.65+ now, would it really be worth it?

I think they should try to keep the Diesel. That Torque is gonna rocket that thing around twisty roads like none other. And besides , it's not like there isn't the after market for those of you who want some more HP. And Maybe i speak for my self here but i would like to have a more environmentally friendly car as well as a sporty car. and as far as i can see, this is the only car yet that is going to fulfill both of those wants at what is likely to be a reasonable price as well.

I think overall the car is good. although the 21" rims will throw off stability like crazy. it sits WAAY to high off the ground. the body work is amazing as well as the interior. I don't know about the engine though. Not impressed with the HP number. Plus with the price of Diesel skyrocketing, that might hurt the wallet a little more. but overall i'm glad they're FINALLY bringing back the AWD turbo to the eclipse! my favorite!

Looks nice now... Question is, ... if it ever gets released, how badly are they going to strip it of it's good looks??? (And yes, ... this coming from a huge Mitsu fan... :-) First off, .... really think they'll sell the car with a $4000 set of 21" wheels, .... stock?? :-P Duh... They also did the typical "make the interior look extremely futuristic at a cost WAY above our ability to manufacture.." That'll be gone on release, guaranteed. Oh, ... and get rid of the deisel... I resent that "We'll forgive you for the third and fourth generation Eclipses".
Some people just don't realize how good the Mitsu V6s are. Yes, a FWD drivetrain does take a lot out of the potential of an engine, but it's rather unfair to even imply that the 4G is NOT a high performer. Bolt-on N/A 4Gs DO compete with the Evo on the straightaway. It's not difficult to achieve when you're putting +/- 230whp to the ground. TDI? Uhm... keep the V6. I couldn't care less about a factory MHI turbo.

It's not atleast 2 years btw... This car is squedules if planned to release next year. Yup, 09 thats right. Reason? That's The way mitsubishi has done it, thats the way they will keep doing it, because its the new Gen. The 5th Gen ended with the 09 eclipse this year. New Gen starts with the 2010 Edition, which is hopefully close to the car you just saw.
