  • did the polymorth scar the crap out of anybody else when they were younger?

  • I heard a movie was made and four episode were made between Series VIII and Back to Earth. Is there any truth in any of this?

  • that awesome opening

  • Back to Earth is classed as Series IX. Robert Lewellyn let slip on his Twitter page that Series X has been commissioned by tv channel DAVE, which screened Back To Earth after that did so well in the ratings. Its being written by Doug Naylor with the actors sorting out their contracts (since Craig Charles would need time off Coronation Street etc)

  • *Spoilers* Remember at the end of Back to Earth they went back to Red Dwarf with the whole thing being a hallucination from the Dimension Squid. The next series will continue from there.

  • There is not going to be a ninth series. Back to earth was a 3 part one off as part of an anniversary special, which DAVE paid a fair chunk of money to the Producers and gave them like a 2 month window to produce it, way too short.

  • @Hardhouserich There will be a tenth and eleventh serries to be produced from January 2011. Back to Earth is now being classed as series IX

  • Nice vid but Dough Naylor said that he won't make a series IX but might make a series X so really Back To Earth is series IX.

  • In the last episode of Red Dwarf. Dose Everyone go into this mirror universe because Reddwarf is burning up in flames & Rimmer is the only one there?

  • In the last episode of Series VIII, Rimmer crosses over to the mirror universe to find the antidote to a corrosive chemical that is eating its way through the ship.

When he returns, Lister, Cat, Kryten and Kochanski are nowhere to be found, and Red Dwarf is moments away from falling apart.

  • There was an Alternate ending on the Season 8 dvd where they do save the ship. I cant remember if Back to Earth ever explained that.

  • there is no real one

  • wrong, there is. i saw it on real television the other day. because it's the actual fucking R/D IX

  • no there wasn't. There might be a X, but there won't be a IX, Grant said so

  • fake account? X is 10 IV is 9. :-/

  • wtf?

  • ok my bad, i meant IX not IV.

look! for the last time, here are the real reddwarf opening titles: watch?v=n-kEm27LW_o

  • yeah, that's back to earth, not IX. back to earth is after IX and X. after XIII has been resolved

  • IV is 4 IX is 9

  • back to earth isn't IX or X. It's after both of them.

  • no but if doug naylor says he isn't gonna make A IX but he's gonna make a series X B.T.E is like a series IX but i know where you are coming from

  • @TheHairofTime in the fictional timeline - it is technically sIX cos sX and sXI are in production

  • wonderful!

  • Cool attempt, mabey the cuts could be a bit quicker but good choices of footage.

  • Very good effort indeed! 5/5 stars :-)

  • i use to watch this all the time, its classic, love craige!!!

  • Mixed emotions. It's very good :) ...but makes me sad that there isn't a Series IX. :(

  • Oh, there will be series IX... There will be...

  • How I wish. The BBC have really overlooked it recently.

  • every day and every night, i pray to god they resurrect the red

  • There makeing red dwarf series 9

  • Remember the internet is full of lies!

  • yeah but it was on the official red dwarf website.

    and on the news.

  • It's not a series 9. It's an anniversary special for the Channel Dave. 2 episodes and a documentary I believe.

  • is it? well i spoke to norman lovett, (guy who plays holly) And he said it was a series 9, He also said that holly isnt in it.

  • The four main characters, Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten, are definitly confirmed. Holly however isn't, it could go either way, and it could be either gender, we aren't sure yet.

  • yeah i hope theres at least one holly, though it wont be played by norman lovett, itd still be nice to have 1 holly at least

  • Lol imagine two Hollies, aka Series 2 Holly/Hilly style, that would be quite strange.

Why won't it be played by Normal Lovett? If I'm right, this will follow on where Season 8 left, Norman as Holly being in the latest episode.

  • Cause i spoke to norman lovett and he said its being cancelled

  • You could be trolling now.

I'll wait until I hear that said on an interview.

  • Yeah, ok i guess.

Anyway aparently they cut him out thats all he said

  • That's likely, they did it with Series 3 (cut Normal out) because he got in an argument with Ed Bye (I think). They needed to bring him back for the whole Series 8 reunion thing, but they gave him limited lines. :@

According to certain websites though, Danny John Jules is facing court in November for assault (apparently), but the filming is said to begin early 2009 (March or April at the latest) so we'll hopefully get the specials in the summer.

  • I'm going to see if I can get more research about this Danny John Jules/assault thing, since it could just be a rumour that's escalated. Even if it is true, they should get the filming done before anything happens.

  • Yeah apparently he chased a binman down the street with a samurai sword

  • You know its back in less than a month right?

  • Yeah, everyone already knows that already.

The comments you've quoted were posted over a month AGO lol.

    Try and keep up.

  • (it was known about 4 months ago, maybe YOU should keep up) dickhead

  • Known about for 4 months, not completely known in terms of actual predictions for 4 months.

So no, maybe you need to keep up. They've changed it alot in the past 4 months, first it was only going to be 4 episodes, now 2, now it's 3. And what with Danny being jailed during that time, details on him returning were sketchy.

And insulting someone is often a last minute resort to try and act hard and clever, but it's usually the resort of the person having nothing else to say.

  • Danny wasn't jailed? Where the hell do you get such tabloid rubbish from. He was arrested and fined... NOT jailed! For god's sake wake up

  • Comment removed

  • I'm insulted!

  • We will never see the real thing!

  • there are 8 series

  • How many series are there?

  • RED DWARF ALL THE WAY :D Must Bring It Back !"!!

  • Get Red Dwarf back! (And Blake's 7 while you're at it) :)

  • also red dwarf fucking rules

  • If they do make another series I hope its not all new tech I hope It keeps It's cheesy and unsophisticated feel because that was one of the main elements to the past series.

  • ok, sorry for not putting on a long post....lol

I too am a Red Dwarfer, same with my family...

..I think it'll come back after...doctor who, and doctor who is for cbbc viewers (not creepily cool and hide-behind-sofa type ..)

    Anyone agree?

  • Fuck off.

  • I'm with HeyArnoldsspleen

  • I think a big part of why the BBC won't go for either a Red Dwarf Movie or a Series IX is simply because they've sunk a big part their budget and creative energy into Doctor Who. Though i do love Doctor Who, i'd love see another Red Dwarf series even if it meant a break from DW, i wonder if russel t davis is a red dwarf fan :)

BTW, The post below sounded a bit too 'right on' and well spoken to me to seem genuine, almost like something a BBC spokesperson would say, or big doctor who fan :)

  • well they're doing a one off special. In 2009.

  • Acually four special on freeview channel dave cause bbc wont make it

  • Actually four specials on freeview channel Dave cause bbc wont make them

  • Actually, the BBC is paying for them to be filmed - Dave is joint owned by BBC Worldwide and Virgin Media.

  • Wait, no, I read the article wrong. Ignore that.

  • There is absolutely no need for more Red Dwarf, anymore than there is for The Young Ones to come back. I am personally very glad that the BBC have had the courage to say they don't want to pump more money into this series ten years after it proved itself no longer funny. Leave it in the past guys, and move on. There are eight previous series to enjoy, and a ninth series wouldn't be new for very long, so you'd then be asking for a tenth and so on. Not what the majority of license fee payers want.

  • honestly, all we Dwarfers are looking for is a clear-cut end to the series; the last episode was bollocks to high hell and left all of us wondering "...what the smeg?". if Red Dwarf came out with a straight to DVD film, a 9th season, or at the very least a final book in the RD series to tie up all of the loose ends and all then we wouldn't feel gypped out of the amazingly hilarious, poignant, and intelligent tale of the last human alive. that's all we really want. gimme a thumbs up if you agree!

  • Just use the alternative ending that's available on the Red Dwarf VIII DVD, or consider Dwarf over with the last series Rob Grant was involved with. It's not fair for cliffhangers to be used as an excuse to drag a programme out when the writers have forgotten what it's about and can't even manage anything funny anymore. We've seen the characters return to earth in Tikka to Ride, and we've seen they would rather just waste time in space than stay there. So that's it - no "clear-cut end".

  • Oh how I HATE the BBC. They have become bigger jerks than the trash in hollywood. Ignoring Red Dwarf. Terrible!!!!!

  • Hey, look what the did with Blakes' 7 when there was a 5th season in materialization then again they where planning to pull out after 3rd seasonor when they pulled the plug off of the 3rd season of The Tripods. BBC is and are biass and is known to fuck over a Sci-Fi show when it's providing present and future success with oversee, merchandising etc. The best example is Who when it was to have a 27th season when the Beeb decided to kill the show for good. They may do the new series in very soon!

  • Pretty good titles! It's a real shame the way they ended the last series, the alternate was so much better.

  • hey this i great, what i do with mine is use deleted scenes aswell to keep peoplegoing, huh? i dont remember that...

  • Series 9 in 2009 wouldn't be bad. So please BBC, think about all the DVD's you can sell.

  • I really dont understand why the BBC rejected it. In its hayday, Red Dwarf outdid every other show on british television by millions in terms of rankings.

  • True, my theory is that the BBC spent all its budjet on all the Doctor Who spinoffs.

  • Don't forget Hyperdrive. I guess it makes sense for the Beeb to try out new things every once in a while, but to ignore a series like Red Dwarf altogether is just cruel. Especially considering it has such a loyal fan base. I mean, would it really dent the BBC's pockets THAT much if they commissioned some new episodes/radio shows/etc? (If only to spare us some of the Godawful stuff they're putting out in its place...) ;-)

  • too true!

  • BBC has a prejudice attitude toward Sci-Fi Fantasy shows! They will enjoy pocketing the profits and give us lame excuse why the shows are cancelled and have us to "enjoy" the shows past broadcast and their other lame shows! They will support Eastenders until the end of time. Right now, Who is bringing in millions with oversea sales but by a few years from now the show will have a similiar 85/89 fate!

  • I don't think Who is destined to return to its 85/89 self at all. It'll make new mistakes and might be in the position of having to defend itself again in the future, but this will have nothing to do with the direction the series ended up taking in the mid to late 80s under JNT. Taken as any other current day TV programme, it's doing well for having lasted 4 years, guaranteed to have three specials in 2009 and a full series in 2010, and doesn't look like it's close to running out of steam yet.

  • Oh no I do not expect Who will repeat the same type of creative mistakes that JNT applied on the series which helped destroyed the franchis and C.Baker's talent. I did wanted to see some of those unproduced season episode of C.Baker's and the 27th season which theat whole writing team wanted to established. But then again the ratings in those season was so bad the BBC had a great excuse to pull the plug. The same happened to Enterprise after it was getting good in the 4th season!

  • Go on, then..! As long as you add a credit for P2Pproductions on the side. Cheers!
