@toddclemmer Yeah - like the copyright holders of this material even care. I wonder how many copies of this incredible album have sold in the last 10 years. Probably a negligible amount, which is a travesty. Corporations are so ridiculous.
@radiantopaque True. It's almost as if there's certain arrangements or "orders" that a small percentage of people (mostly artists) "get". We just "know" when seemingly nonsensical images actually fit together- and when it really is just nonsense. I could go on by dividing time (like only a true artist can)- but YouTube only allows 500 characters.
@ShemTheSham Taking Wire and Sonic Youth's whole careers into consideration, Sonic Youth win out on the "prepared guitar weirdness" front, but Wire handily best them at creative guitar tones, especially as applied to bass. Just listen to "Practice Makes Perfect" or the IBTABA version of "Boiling Boy" for proof.
Both were and are, in their own way, strikingly original bands, and far from competitive in this regard.
I just checked it out, and I love it! Thanks for the suggestion.
And since you like this album, I just uploaded all the tracks from the Silk Skin Paws single which you might like (not on this account though, I have an exclusive music account, appropriately entitled KingofUm).
It does have some great lyrical content, but overall it's a bit too poppy for me. You should definitely get it on CD if you don't already; the alternate version is really great.
I will have to take these songs down soon. YouTube is on my case about it. I wish the record companies would realize this is free advertising.

I dIdnt think it was "crack-head' mirrors. Crack-ed mirrors sounded more unique.

Wire always had a pop influence to them. They clearly grew up with the Kinks, Who, Beatles, Sid Barrett, etc.

They had the greatest and most varied guitar sounds of any band.

Definitely not my favorite album, this song along with a few others on it are still some of their best of their Mute period.
The first Wire song I ever heard was 'The Finest Drops'. Since then I've been hooked.
