The cut at the beginning is actually only used for the pre-show. Its the main morning bumper but stripped of some of the orchestration. I like the pre-show cut a lot. The violins are beautiful.
It was plain becuase they were still in transition into HD. They finally did specialty opens for their newscast on Monday February 4, 2008. Before that all of their newscasts didnt include times.
One thing I keep wondering. The NBC Tower is referred to as the Main Set by viewers and people at the station but since Studio 5 is used for everything but the 10pm during the week wouldn't Studio 5 be the "Main Set." It just always seemed weird to me.
