This was probably the Toy Run - about 17 000 buikes in Jhb - and they have others all round the country, but not as big a this one. They block the highways for the bikers to all ride together, which is why they are waiting for the convoy to start.
Everyone with any kind of two wheeler comes along- and every one brings a toy for underpriveliged kids for Christmas (it happens just before Christmas). They end up with a mountain of toys at the end (lots of little plastic motorbikes)!
