@Sibs1990 THERE AN APP CALLED "WINE" IT CHANGES A WINDOWS APP API AND REWRITES IT TO RUN ON LINUX! THERE ARE ALSO OTHER WAYS (DUAL BOOTS, VIRTUAL MACHINE, OR WINE)! SORRY FOR YELLING!
@Sibs1990 Yeah, you can use a program called Wine that runs Windows programs and such on the Linux, sadly it can take som time making it work, but most of the programs and such works right away! but not the game I wanted :/ But now I aint gonna game so much more so I'm switching to Linux!
I really love the flip out effect for windows. It looks very natural and appealing. If only I could get this on Windows... Each operating system does 1 or 2 things exceptionally better than the other. I want 1 that does them all!
it seems like ubuntu took too long on the little things. like the tiny animations and such. if they would spend more of their focus on work stuff, like productivity and things that would reach a larger user base they would really have something on their hands.
not saying it isnt cool. just saying its cool, but for 30 minutes maybe.
i am not as familiar with l;inux as i would like to be-what is the practical use of multiple desktops for a single user? i mean as opposed to tabs or multiple windows
i find it a LOT easy to work with than fumbling around with alt tab and so on. as a student i keep many windows open when im doing research and homework, so i find it really helps me streamline what i'm doing and help me stay more organized. it's a matter of oppinion though, as some people might find it more distracting. you could think of it like having multiple tabs on a browser.
Oh he feels the need. Linux is going to kill the market for a consumer based operating system, Bill's market that is. All he will be able to do is try to sell us some nifty plug in's which we will then systhesize and distribute free.
Most of the major games are supported, some you'll find are supported better than others, some even run faster on linux than on windows, but I still would recommend sticking to windows for gaming - if you're a big gamer, in my opinion linux is not a choice for main OS
But you can always download vista lite gamer edition. It's skimmed down of all features and is used only for gaming. No pretty aero interface but who cares if linux is your main os.
i have yet to find a game that runs faster in linux than in windows. native or otherwise (e.g. unreal tourney). i ran unreal tourney on a heavily optimised gentoo box and not only did it not run any faster than windows, it looked a lot crappier. graphics were grainy and washed out.
@neilbhave It depends on what you want to OS for. If you want to develop web applications then Linux is somewhat better as a main OS. For the stuff you really need, like email, document creation, browsing and media, it covers all the bases. Windows is the better gaming platform, but seriously if it's games you want I'd take a good look at the XBOX 360 for that.
How do you drag the maximised windows without them going un-maximised? That's what happened then I try to do it.

Too many desktop icons in my opinion. :) I love clean desktops. Also, the Firefox icon doesn't fit there.

The ability to keep multiple separate applications in separate places where you can switch between them really is useful.
