Jacob Lusk's performance is HORRIBLE in comparison to Kelly's. And even if he HAD performed this song better than Kelly, umm.. yeah. Kelly has this magnetism about her within this performance which just draws you in. There are so many who go up there and try to perform. Kelly, however, just does. She's a natural born performer.
And we won't get started on the voice. Seriously...I've noticed that many girls this season, while they do have the range, lose power as they go higher. Kelly retains that power making her high notes so much more effective and tasty.
I got to say Kelly's version was just in another dimension. Jacob was ok in the beginning. Later on, the backup singers screwed it up actually, you can't hear him much. At the end, he kind of doing it ok. The issue here is he just did it probably similar to the old way.
Kelly made it much more modern like today's song. So it's creative, artistic, but very good to listen to (not just different). It's actually better than some of her own songs after she became a star.
This performance seems flawless to those who didn't grow up on motown and are use to watered down versions. this was ok but this can't even touch Jacobs performance. it was silk and power. no comparison.
Kelly does have charisma. And a wonderful aspect to her performances is her command of the stage and how she relates to her audience. It just seems so natural for her. Not all idols have it and I won't name names.
there were lots contestants who had equal or more talent as kelly clarkson. BUT the one thing that made kelly go far and made her stand out in idol history was that she didn't take herself seriously and let go on stage. today's contestants are so serious about winning and technicality in my opinion.
Wow......just wow. This woman was just kept surprising us. All of her performances would have your jaw dropping all the way to hell. What an amazing singer. America has talent, and Kelly CLarkson is the epitome of what true talent was. I just couldn't stop saying wow during this performance. American Idol hasn't really had anyone this great in a while. You must be kidding? Jacob's performance was decent but it wasn't better than Kelly's. More originality, style, technique, and flexibility was displayed in Kelly's rendition as opposed to Jacob's. You can at least have somewhat of a wow to this performance, not Jacob's, sorry.
As far as I know, only 3 of them went international and such, and I meant hitting major success directly after Idol. I know others like Fantasia rose up after a while, but she had a slow start.

Kelly sang this song brilliantly and CORRECTLY. I really enjoy listening to all of her performances because she is one of the few singers in the world that can sing absolutely anything. @chriscoball That's not true it blew up in like the last 6 weeks of the show. He claimed that things were staged, he said that he made a mistake and shouldn't have left the show. 25 million people watched the finale.
@chriscoball I think he quit because he didn't like how the show operated and felt that they were exploiting the contestants with the contracts they have to sign just to compete. There were times you could sort of tell he didn't care about following the show's procedures though so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a mutual decision for him to leave.

That girl was acting like the stage was her bedroom and the audience was a mirror and the mic was her hairbrush! It's cute and it's rare for all the seasons that I have watched. Usually you can sense some kind of tension from the singer - that small bit of anxiety leaking out of their performance.
@motownazn it's funny how you said that Kelly sang like the stage was her bedroom because in interviews, she has said that when she was little, that's what she did, with a hair brush. i think she has said that when she watched the Grammys as a kid, she would go into her room during commercial breaks and pretend to sing/perform.
As for Motown nights, i'm not sure if that theme is consistent in all seasons, but i think they've had the theme in a few seasons at least.
I love this performance. Amazing!!! It shows how sassy she can get. I think many singers act when they're singing. Actually, I think she would be a good actress......look at her acting skills in her videos, guest appearances (wish she would do more), and yes her movie. I don't think she knows how talented she is.

Kelly does have charisma. And a wonderful aspect to her performances is her command of the stage and how she relates to her audience. It just seems so natural for her. Not all idols have it and I won't name names.

there were lots contestants who had equal or more talent as kelly clarkson. BUT the one thing that made kelly go far and made her stand out in idol history was that she didn't take herself seriously and let go on stage. today's contestants are so serious about winning and technicality in my opinion.

Wow......just wow. This woman was just kept surprising us. All of her performances would have your jaw dropping all the way to hell. What an amazing singer. America has talent, and Kelly CLarkson is the epitome of what true talent was. I just couldn't stop saying wow during this performance. American Idol hasn't really had anyone this great in a while. If I was in a competition with her you may as well say I'm as good as gone. Her competition must have been scared like hell of her. Just amazing!

You must be kidding? Jacob's performance was decent but it wasn't better than Kelly's. More originality, style, technique, and flexibility was displayed in Kelly's rendition as opposed to Jacob's. You can at least have somewhat of a wow to this performance, not Jacob's, sorry.

As far as I know, only 3 of them went international and such, and I meant hitting major success directly after Idol. I know others like Fantasia rose up after a while, but she had a slow start.

@freebyrdlo If by Jordan you mean Jordin Sparks... She was singing with Ruben Studdard who was the star of that duet. As for Kelly sounding winded... She just has more lyrics to sing. She wasn't out of breath it's just a faster paced song.

Kelly sang this song brilliantly and CORRECTLY. I really enjoy listening to all of her performances because she is one of the few singers in the world that can sing absolutely anything. She can sing with wsuch emotion and brilliance, which most singers today lack. I'm glad to say that Kelly Clarkson is one of my favourite singers today. And I think I speak for everyone when I say that Kelly's voice is beatiful, brilliant, and versitile; That is why she sang this well.

Kelly sung this on her own and still SLAYED THE HELL OUT OF IT! If you guys said she did not display EXHILERATION, rewind this video again. If you begg to differ on her delivery of POWER, rewind this again. If you fail to realize the emotion in the song, hang yourself. Kelly sang this song well. No producer would disagree, so shove it!!!

Her rolls is what made the song as well as it was in this performance. You aren't even a singer, so once again, stay in your place. She made the song her own, meaning the rolling was what distinguished her rendition from Aretha and the original. Only by your conceptions she sang this terribly and incorrectly due to the amount of effort and "soul" she put in it. You know the arrangement of the song was changed, so Kelly had to gage her voice accordingly, thus creating emotion. So fall back.

Cool brotha, think what you want I just saw the comment and felt compelled to reply because I had just finished listening to the original and cover versions I mentioned. I am a music producer and I know my music. So many people have tried to cover this song and have failed miserably and so did Kelly Clarkson. Not because she can't sing, she just doesn't possess that "je ne se qua" that you need to pull off such a soulful song.

It truly is sad that you're a music producer and you have such low standards for "INTERPRETATION." Was she supposed to be better than the original? @ericita1 he never got kicked off, brian dunkleman quit after season 1, and has been trying to get another career, but keeps failing, he quit because season 1 was a flop as far as ratings went (didn't get very much views at all) so he decided, that it wouldn't be smart to stick around, and that it would get cancelled. Wow, was he wrong, good thing he doesn't buy stock xD

@chriscoball That's not true it blew up in like the last 6 weeks of the show. He claimed that things were staged, he said that he made a mistake and shouldn't have left the show. 25 million people watched the finale.

@chriscoball I think he quit because he didn't like how the show operated and felt that they were exploiting the contestants with the contracts they have to sign just to compete. There were times you could sort of tell he didn't care about following the show's procedures though so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a mutual decision for him to leave.

That girl was acting like the stage was her bedroom and the audience was a mirror and the mic was her hairbrush! It's cute and it's rare for all the seasons that I have watched. Usually you can sense some kind of tension from the singer - that small bit of anxiety leaking out of their performance.

@motownazn it's funny how you said that Kelly sang like the stage was her bedroom because in interviews, she has said that when she was little, that's what she did, with a hair brush. i think she has said that when she watched the Grammys as a kid, she would go into her room during commercial breaks and pretend to sing/perform.
As for Motown nights, i'm not sure if that theme is consistent in all seasons, but i think they've had the theme in a few seasons at least.

I love this performance. Amazing!!! It shows how sassy she can get. I think many singers act when they're singing. Actually, I think she would be a good actress......look at her acting skills in her videos, guest appearances (wish she would do more), and yes her movie. I don't think she knows how talented she is.

@IdolReady This is a really old id. I don't even like Amy Lee. I love Kelly and still do. She's cute, down-to earth and has an amazing voice. I feel she could stand to lose weight.. not only because she was soo fucking hot in 2005-06 but also because of her health. you can't yoyo and not expect future health problems.
