Omg she projects above all else and the orchestra I go chills with this
Fascinating to hear this part of this opera sung in a way that can actually stand both dramatically and vocally. Ever since Callas all efforts in this particular part of this opera were disasterous failures
I love Anna as Anna Bolena, but I wasn't a fan of that high D I've heard better from her but of course she is supreme diva of the 21st century and we love her for that! <3
HE would be bood off the stage at La Scala if she ever dared this. An afonic dog would have better voice and sing better! I was there and the audiance at the Met will applaud to anything and everything.
HA! anybody would've been booed at La Scala. Sometimes I think people there can't really make any difference, they just like to boo all the time, perhaps believing it makes them look more profound than anyone mortal. So please, do not give examples with La Scala...
@pepemanshon When and if you ever can go to La Scala, then only then you will see the huge difference with a performance with the Met. When at La Scala singers know that they have to give there best and earn their fee. La Scala doesn't give free passes. It's because they know what opera has to be and seen the bes performed. They are not brain dead like in the Met.
@jewelmarkess don giovanni is not the same as Anna Bolena and Donna Anna is not Anna Bolena. For Netrebko's level that role is more suited to her than an assoluta role. Was there and it wasn't as ghastly as Anna Bolena. Let's see if she dares an Anna Bolena at La Scala
Mariella Devia has sung Anna Bolena at La Scala in a far more ghastly way than Netrebko, while Netrebko AT LEAST has the middle voice and the range within the score...all Devia ever had were the top notes NOT IN THE SCORE, because when she tries to sing the low passages it's like asthmatic attack, nothing comes out, and when she tries the middle it just wobbles out of control like an old hen, it's dreadful.
La Scala has been promoting for years that Ridicule of Singing Mariala Davia or whatever her name is. That House has paid the price for it, it has been brought down many years now, the only thing that remains in there is the malice of an overaged and horrible audience
The truth is that we havent seen a truly great performance from La Scala the last 30 years
I am a big Anna fan and love Donizetti but as really disappointed when I visited NYC from the UK to see this production. AN looked out of shape and hit some notes which were bordering on shrill/ugly, the production was static and uninspiring. I also feel that the piece itself was a big part of the problem, not his best work and therefore needs a great performance to lift it out from mediocre to sublime and sadly Anna failed to deliver.
I am a huge fan of Anna Netrebko and have been crying my eyes out that I am not in NYC anymore to go see the performance... But what's up with the weight? Girl you better start running along the Hudson... I know it sounds mean, but She was so (and still is) so gorgeous on top of being a great soprano!
She looked the part, she acted the part and she sang the part. It was just an unbelievable experience watching her from row 1 on Friday 30 Sept.. Btw: second act contained some of the best life stuff I ever attended in my life.
I am sure the Met will bring it out on DVD. They will probably record it for DVD release on Oct 15 when they do the simulcast to movie theatres all over the world and the DVD will come out after that. The Met know perfectly well what sells!!

"... assoluta un di sarò." MA NON ANCORA.
No chest, no drama, no pathos, no overall atmosphere, no tension (chorus, solists).
Disappointing...

@NEBESHIKU Anna Netrebko has just performed in La Scala in Don Giovanni, and both the audience there and the critics loved her.
