I have heard people surmise that it might be because of Gord's pro-Canada stance and possible anti-American angle during his rants and in his lyrics. Humm...the music's too good for me to care what other American people think about TTH. They are rocking my Arizona life quite nicely and I don't see any end in that particular sight, eh? =:)

Come to Arizona, Tragically Hip! We're totally hipless over here. These guys rock so nicely, Gord is a poet with one of the best and most powerful voices in rock. When I tell people in the U.S. about them they look at me with faraway looks. Oh well, it's their loss.

I'd have to say, Gordie has tapped into expressing the raw emotion of his lyrics & his expressiveness doesn't mean he's drunk my guess is he's the furthest thing from it. If he sat up there in a rockin chair and sang his songs most people wouldn't care to listen to what he's saying. Many times he acts out the lyrics that that are multi-layered & dimensional as all good writings. One more "looks so drunk comment" poster might want to try something other than the govt juice...like yoga;-)
