....actually, quite informative and entertaining video. Just in case you play trumpet or another brass instrument, I think you might find some trumpet and brass tutorials quite intriguing over at YOURBRASSINSTRUCTOR's Channel.
He's playing the shit out of the music in front of him. It's clearly not disrespectful, as Elvin obviously agreed to it (it also happens all the time). Wynton is an incredible jazz musician and trumpet player...it only takes someone who wants to be strengthened by bashing him to have that message obscured. Give it a rest; kids don't need to be reading that and bashing Wynton out of ignorance as you did. FYI, if there was a lesson from Elvin, it clearly had nothing to do with silly minutia.
i like wynton. He is so perfect though. its not real life. and arrogant have you ever heard him speak? Elvin is one of the most amazing drummers and it looks like he is having fun when he is playing. this i think transfers to his music. music is a joyful art. make a joyful sound. i don't get a high listening to wynton like i do listening to lee morgan or miles or dizzy. sorry just my opinion. i would def take lessons from him.
@lestmbly Wynton Marsalis doesnt NEED to do ANYTHING! His horn is all the "visual watching" you need. And he speaks through his horn so the "stage prona" is right there in the form of a brass instrument with three valves. Its called the trumpet....
Hey people don't get me wrong..Re-read my comments..didn't I say that I thought W/M was a great musician, and great trumpet player and that he can swing..Believe me I love listening to W/M. I just hate visually watching him..his stage persona bores me. It makes me not focus on the music..He's a poser and so un-kool..but excellent musician...That's all. More power to you W/M
@lestmbly Seems like you just need to put more emphasis on listening instead of visuals. Wynton's job is to entertain through his music, not give you something to watch. Visuals should NEVER affect they way you listen.
Haha, your presumptions of me are just that, your presumptions.I'm not gonna sit here and try to convince you that I'm somethin' other then what you think I'am.That would be a total waste of time. But I will say this. You say I'm ignorant, to the contrary,I think you confuse ignorance with self confidence. Its not a issue of myself always being right, never said I was.Its jus that I look at situations, form a opinion and then comment.Obviously you hate "EDUCATED" critique.Show ur mental insecurities
Wynton can be such a "poser" at times...for example on this composition, who in the hell plays a spiritual and spontaneous piece like this with the aid of "sheet music".Come on. This piece isn't Bach, Mozart, Shubert, Brahms or Beethoven with subtle nuances and delicate variations. Its a loose spirtual Coltrane type piece that should be played from the heart.Nothing complex or trickey about this piece that one would have to have sheet music in order to play correctly.Such a "poser", so uncool
haha you make me laugh...I'm not to bright?.. I don't think you honestly believe that. How can anyone figure out what the hell it was you were trying to say..Again, huh? But don't bother replying you and this conversation is below me. bye :? [
If he's not playing directly from the sheet music what the point of having it in front of him other them wanting to be the "poser" that he obviouisly is. The man never was cool and always the phony. Grillmouth doesn't make any sense..please decipher what ever it is he's trying to say.
What you should do is watch the entire concert before posting here, bro. They play a variety of tunes here at this concert, including Pursuance. Bottom line, sheet music has always been a reference. This tune proves that he is not just playing the notes down there, because he's using the notes as a guide. Even Coltrane read music some point in his performance life. He's definitely not a poser... It's just your opinion to think something like that. It's not a fact. He swings much harder than you.
Hey I saw all these videos presented here on YTube concerning Wynton and Elvin bro. My reviewing them hasn't changed my opinions or has any barring on what I am witnessing on this particular video. You listen to Coltrane's original "A Love Supreme" And the melodic notes that Wynton is playing is not on any of that LP. The tune IS Trane-like and has the modal effect of the cut "Psalm". But note for note what Wynton is playing is not a Coltrane composition that's on that LP. Quite possin' haha
I never said that Wynton couldn't swing dude..And yes my opinions are just that, my opinions. All I'm saying about Wynton is that he's a bore and a poser..You know the greatest poser that ever existed in jazz was the Prince of Darkness, Miles Davis, the things he use to do on stage outside of his playing was basically done to build up his mystic and for effect. But the difference between Miles and Wynton was that Miles was cool...Wynton never was and never will be ...haha that's all
The only difference between miles and wynton was that miles was kool. But you wouldn't know cause you're not a musician. Or a lousy one. Know tell me, what do you really think?
@lestmbly You just seem extremely uneducated, and someone who is focused on one thing. You're the kind of person who is on the ignorant "I'm always right" side of life. I bet people in the real world can't respect you whatsoever.

Elvin just brought tears to my eyes. Only thing I don't like about this clip is how Marsalis seems to show his impatients while Mister Jones was still soloing..Hey Wynton let the man finish his statement before you start standing up, putting the horn to your lips and gettin' fidgety..So unkool..get my drift?

Obviously this lesson with the master didn't take.

well maybe you should consider, if marsarlis is playing with !!elvin jones!!!, elvin must have alot of respect for him.
hence, your opinion, in comparison to on of the "greatest jazz drummers ever" seems pretty damn pathetic.
