  • Looks like ultrabook.

  • Thanks for the review

  • are the hinges metal?

  • @hty930 Yes.

  • @hty930 they were always metal. you obveriously never owned a lenovo thinkpad.

  • @MegaDavidHa the hinges on this one were black so I wasn't sure.

  • But will it play Minecraft?

  • @gbnnn ??? Minecraft yo.... my son got some problem with minecraft on my new Asus K43SD (2012 release), i7 processor, Windows 7. Problem might due to 64bits operating system. Minecraft have stop updating their application.

  • @fycheong71 Hmm... minecraft should work just fine under 64-bit windows 7. How much ram do you have?

  • only ASUS U36SD!!

  • never liked this kinda laptop. now macbook air is a real laptop

  • @1133bruce right... unless you care about keyboard quality, expandability, easy access to the internals, or case design that puts durability over aesthetics.

  • CD/DVD drives are obsolete anyways! Lenovo's way forward!

  • @dlobrown8888 I hardly ever use CD/DVD drives anyway! So it makes sense!

  • i find it annoying that these windows machines have stickers on them and that the trackpad is not perfectly centered. Also, there are a ton of visual lines on the bottom.

  • @ChinoMasFino first thing i did when i got my thinkpad was to tear the stickers :D

  • most netbook 13.3 screens these days are 16:9 but this doesnt look quite so wide, could it be 16:10?

  • Backlit keyboard??? Web cam specs? Is SIM the micro or regular size?

  • No CD drive? Ya know, I've been using Lenovo laptops in my business for years. In the past, a CD drive was essential, as it was used as the primary way to load new software onto the machines. That being said, I can't remember ever using the CD/DVD drive on my T420s or T520 since I purchased them. All software is purchased online and download off the internet. So, for me, I could see myself buying a laptop without a optical drive now.

  • I think the reason for the Gorilla glass, is that it allows them to make the display bezel thinner, which requires that most of the rigidity of the display come from the screen itself. Personally, I prefer the matte finish screen. The reflections on that glass would bother me. If they could find a way to make matte gorilla glass, now that would be great!

  • Personally, although I haven't seen the X1 in person, I think I would like the new keyboard, if its anything like similar keyboards on the Sony laptops. Would love to see that keyboard style on something like the T420s, T520, etc.

  • Actually, the laptop has 3 USB ports. The eSATA port can also be used as a USB 2.0 port.

  • i5 is kind of weak for a 1k+ laptop.

  • Which movie is shown? :)

  • The keyboard and Lenovo logo on surface is killing Thinkpad.

  • @yicaoyimu The new keyboard is awesome! Have you used on yourself?

  • @552Industries No sorry... I am just being biased. I love the original thinkpad keyboard too much.

  • @yicaoyimu I've had the pleasure of owning three Thinkpads and I must say, the new keyboard is much better than the previous style. (I'm not bashing the class keyboard, that was kick ass in its day.)

  • thinkMac !!!

  • Can anyone tell me if this have a cd drive?

  • @rikkinshah1986 It doesn't have an internal optical drive. You can use an external USB CD/DVD drive.

  • looooool, i was watching a horror movie in dark room while waiting for this to loads up and when she started speaking" this is mobile..." so loud i got so fcking scared xDD

  • this laptop looks fucking disgusting

  • Where are Thinkpad traits.... keyboard is not original and screen is GLOSS, no!!!

  • GORILLAGLASS ON THINKPAD!!!! YES!!!

  • @spacecrawler Damn I second that

  • Look at how big the bezel is with that crappy 1366x768 res. Why can't they release more thinkpads with the x301 look and feel WHILE including an optical drive?

  • and it has the same old shitty windows 7

  • @2015danteinferno Don't insult it because with a bit of fine tuning and a few opensource/free apps it rocks.

  • awesome but the screen CANNOT be glossy.

  • thats yours right

  • Too much of a Macbook Air ripoff. The screen is glossy, even if it's Gorilla Glass. The rubber door is stupid and gets in the way of the headphone jack, it doesn't have an IPS display like its X220 brother, the battery isn't removable, etc etc.

It's like Lenovo made a more durable Macbook Air with a bit more power behind the hood. Bah.

  • this is NOT Thinkpad

  • @11infarkt

    then what is it?

  • Lenovo please do it in tablet convertible as well, i'll buy it right away!!!

  • FUCK YOU MACBOOK AIR !!!!!

  • I think this laptop fuses a thin, fashionable design with a 'sturdy' look. Very hard to pull off, but I think lenovo did it with this one.

  • no drive???

  • really great review :D

it cost about 3165 in sweden with 8gb of ram and i5 intel :d

i wondering who is gonna pay that much of money for this kind of pc when you can buy Mac :D

  • Lenovo x1 is deff. not cheaper than a MBA.

  • Also it would not do 10 hours on 100% load.

  • Also what does IPS have to do with brightness?

  • MacBook Air goes up to i7 too, not the atom processor you suggest it does.

  • @Cythreill Only the ULV i7 though @ 1.8 Ghz. The Lenovo has the 2.7 Ghz i7 as an option. It's much faster. The MBA also maxes out at 4GB of ram while the Lenovo will allow you up to 8Gb.

  • a wedge battery what a brilliant idea.

  • how does this compare to the x220?

  • crap hardware. comparing this to current mb air is ridiculous

  • @burnedsoma I'm looking to buy a laptop and two laptops I've been looking at are this and the Macbook Air. When looking at the tech specs for each they seem to be the mostly the same, but I prefer the look of the Lenovo. I was wondering what are the hardware differences?

  • @moonchild1854 The processor in the X1 is significantly faster than the one in the Air. Get the Lenovo.

  • There really is no reason to buy the Mac Air.

  • viewing angles?????????????

  • Hope to have one .

  • Comment removed

  • OH MY FUCK THAT'S SLIM!!!!!! O.O

  • If any one thinks the macbook air is better, try dropping it from 12ft then stand on it, we'll see who the real winner is.

  • so, here we have stripped down "thin" shitty notebook (wich gets good when you attach external battery, external monitor and everything else on to it) but then the machine get fat, and the whole thing kinda looses any meaning whatsoever

  • @burnedsoma this is an ultraportable, it's not meant to be a desktop replacement. That's what the T-series Thinkpads are for - some of which are almost as small & light as the X-series models (E.g. the T410s).

  • cheap plastic looks, comparison to mb air is hilarious. and lenovo never ever talks about screen resolution, just size in inches. and resolution on this thing sucks - 1366x768. also, not word on how long that 4k mamp battery would last, that is ridiculous as well. ok, then we see the external battery with which the laptop would work up to 10 hrs. i call that marketing bullshit.

  • 1 Person never used a Thinkpad!

  • It looks like good machine, but keyboard is glamourous like on Sony or Mac. And, WHERE IS BLUE ENTER?

  • Core I7? Are you sure?!

  • @cookies1and1creme It's a Core i5 and a Core i7 and not a Intel i5/i7 apparently .

  • the thinkpad looks like the sort of thing you bought in the year 1997.

  • @SimHarrison

If you don't like the Thinkpad for the looks you are a child that would be better off with a Macbook.

  • i want one of this

  • the way the laptop is being help makes it look thicker than it actually is due to the beveled edge.

  • I'd trade the full power cpu for a 1920x1080 IPS display.

  • BLACK ENTER ON A THINKPAD!!! NO!!!!!

and watched it on a Thinkpad T61... which is still an awesome laptop

    ;)

  • love your reviews hi from sonora mexico

  • Watched this on a 4 year old Thinkpad T61... which is still an awesome laptop :D

  • show us how responsive the multi touch gesturing is for this thinkpad because i know that the thinkpad t510 has really bad multi touch gesturing

  • Aside from a better processor, I like the design of X301 in every way. Lenovo is slowly chiseling away at the true Thinkpad design. Not impressed. Where's the direct successor to X301???

  • One mistake is it is an IPS Screen covered in Corning Gorilla Glass

  • Am I the only one that thinks this is the size of a MacBook pro and not an Air...

  • Why did she say Lenovo Thinkpad X20 at 8:24 ?

  • Please read our full review to answer many of your questions on MobileTechReview! Link included in the video description.

  • PS: Did you mention anything about noise? How is this laptop's noise level when on standby or doing some heavy duty processing and heat?

  • Is it easy to upgrade the ram and hdd to ssd later on this? And if you do change the hdd to sdd, will you be able to get the lenovo security software again?

Thanks for a great review yet again!

  • These days $1349.00+ can get you great upper level laptop, I got the W520 for $1247.00 with discounts and I7 1600x1200 and it's the 'real' deal!!

  • There is no better keyboard than IBM model M!

  • Really nice.. impressed!

  • how long does it last before the motherboard poops out and you start getting blue screens of death, things like that? Wish reviews would cover that.

  • @dickinson1027

Thinkpad T40p: 2003 to 2007 and then sold it on craigslist

Thinkpad X61T: 2007 to 2010 and then I accidentally broke the screen and now being used as a desktop

Thinkpad X201T: 2010 to present and still running better than any tablet out there

That is my Thinkpad experience and never had blue screen of death or motherboard failures. The worst thing I can think of is battery depletion after 2 years of service.

That is why I stick with the thinkpads.

  • @pogularocky I almost did what you did with the X61 after the backlight on my T41 started going out a week ago. I can still get it to come on for a few useful seconds by pressing the Fn key and F7 over and over. But I decided to just buy a new Acer slimline desktop which seems nice (arrived today from Tigerdirect) -- it actually seems very nice and comes in quality metal case-- hope the i3 processor inside doesn't conflict with the h67 motherb. & that was just the i5s and i7s. Anyway, thx 4 info

  • @pogularocky Never mind -- this is me, dickinson, writing under another name -- I rememebr now why my Thinkpad backlight broke - it was because I'd simply PUNCHED it so many times. Literally punched it. Just gettnig mad and stuff at people on the internet.

    :)

    true, though...

  • hmmh i dont think i'd buy a laptop without at least a dvd drive. I like the idea of having a very portable laptop though. Dont get why you would want a heavy 19" screen monster for the go^^

Is an external DVD drive included when you buy one of these?

  • No slot-loading blueray? nevermind. i will spend my money somewhere else. i waited for this product. i', very disappointed.

  • I'd be all over this if it had a 1600x900 screen or higher.

  • They're really emulating the Mac with this thing.

  • The high end i7 must get hot and loud in that form factor

  • GLOSS ON A THINKPAD!!!! NO!!!!!

  • @KlingonSpider Its safe to say that Thinkpads have pretty average displays. This display might not be matte but its a step up from previous ones in regards to image quality. And its brighter than the Samsung super-bright displays plus its got gorilla glass. Dont complain man.

  • @FuzzyTechBird well gloss on a thinkpad in my opinion is simply blasphemy.

  • can you show some starcraft 2 gaming on the laptops you test games on...just a request.....you have good reviews

  • Excellent review. Thanks! How is the fan noise and running temperature over time and load?

  • wow.. i think i found my VAIO TZ replacement!

  • Love my eSata port!

  • cool can you compare the gaming on this to an amd e-350 laptop?

  • it would be nice to know what you think of the lower (cheaper) end of lenovo laptops, like the ideapad line, please and thank you :)

  • I like how they kept the industrial look throughout the years with the Thinkpad. It gives off a more polished and business feel.
