with the guys in this clip climbing mountains etc, your average joe blogg cant do any of these without some knowledge in that field. When going to these places a local guide usually takes you and with that alot of the quides want proof of course completion or similiar climbs, also it has alot to do with insurance. E.g. Winter mountaineering intro - intermediate ice and mixed climbing / 4000m classics - advanced technical 4000m / winter alpinism (climb everest type mountains)
@JedNZ in saying this trekking is free, no one can stop you from doing that. What i say above is for the sport and extreme of performance climbing. But if you try go places you know little about, especially north faces, the conditions can change within an instant and if you dont have the correct gear in a foreign country with no rescue units there...your doomed. So its wise to do a quick cheap course in mountaineering or trekking making your time abroad more enjoyable and safe.
Sell everything you have, get a TESOL or similiar certificate, a one way ticket and start off in Vietnam or somwhere and away you go. Move from country to country putting a flag patch on your bag each time, experiance as much as you can everywhere you go and do this for as long you feel. Once you really get started its pretty straight forward but the hardest thing of all is letting go of that security in life and taking the first step into the unkown future. Memories last for life.
@JedNZ YES im only 16 and thats exactly what i want to do. Fuck a day job, screw being tied down to a desk and pulling 9 to 5'ers for 40 odd years then retiring, that shouldn't be what life is about. Go out and experience the world. God I can't wait till i finish school.
@dancansss yea mate you only live once and best doing it young before you have kids or anything else that will tie you down. Even so mixing travel with a sport is a great way to go places that even the travel guides dont speak of. Nothing beats the feeling of winter climbing to the summit of a classic 4000 after paying a local guide in the french alps. So if you can mate, get some skills in somthing you like and use them while travelling if this is rock climbing, mountaineering, trekking etc
@JedNZ my problem is not giving up everything for that...my problem is more, what are u gonna do after having finished travelling...u can't do that stuff for your whole life although i would like to.
got some experience with travelling in australia...it was the best time of my life but after landing back in germany I nearly became depressed... it's even harder to carry on with your life. remeber that folks =)
And here i am, stuck with my everyday job :-(

to do what these guys do you need to:
1. be fluent in english
2. be in good shape
3. be male (women wouldn't do half the stunts these guys do)
