Just because we don't fully understand why God does his actions and allows evil doesn't mean he is evil or irresponsible. It just means that we don't understand. If you walk on the road and see a man beating up another man, you might think the attacker is evil. But what if you find out that the attacker just prevented a woman from being raped and killed by the man and he was fighting him and beating him to defend himself? How much more then that God does things mysteriously.

There is a HUGE difference. The reasons why the hebrews killed the infidels are:
1-The infidels would not voluntarily leave the land that God wanted them to get, and
2-Oftentimes the surrounding infidels wanted to steal the land that the hebrews got, so the hebrews had to defend themselves.
There was NO forced conversion of infidels in the Old Testament. People could freely live without God as long as they keep out of his way.

Read the OT. There were many infidels living peacefully around Isreal, such as the Samaritans for e.g. The jews didn't go around killing them or anyone else when they would not convert to judaism. They just needed a land to propogate God's kingdom so that they could peacefully evangelize the world. It would be great if all we needed to do was to give Muslims a piece of land to end their violence. But we both know that is a ridiculous idea because the Muslims will still seek us out to kill us.

I mostly concentrate on the Biblical scholarship. Just because we don't fully understand why God does his actions and allows evil doesn't mean he is evil or irresponsible. It just means that we don't understand. If you walk on the road and see a man beating up another man, you might think the attacker is evil. But what if you find out that the attacker just prevented a woman from being raped and killed by the man and he was fighting him and beating him to defend himself?
