  • 1:57 he said SHIT first time i heard this man swear .. lol

    he is metal !!!!

  • I love how he was almost in Dream Theater :)

  • i have the Yamaha DFP9500D Direct Drive double pedal should i have bought a different one or does playing on rubber reduce the rebound

  • which axis pedal is the most durable with the least amount of parts?

  • what's with the laugh at 0:25

  • Does anyone know why he is talking about how great the Axis hardware is and how great it is for drummers who dont like lugging around heavy hardware when he has used Sonor and DW hardware during his career? They make the heaviest hardware in the business and I dont think Derek even uses ALL of Axis hardware does he? Im confused...........

  • @soundmind529

Because Derek has always been about taking care of his sponsors. He endorses the pedals only but whenever he does a clinic he always tries to help out the shop / store / brand in selling something. I had the chance to talk with him at Resurrection Drums in Hollywood(Fl) and he was super honest about everything I was looking at. He told me about what works for him but didn't shoot down any brands or just me a "that sucks" attitude.

  • derek roddy is fucking cool, i mean if you saw him on the street dressed like that youd be like "what a happy man" and then take his ipod and its death metal, baked cake

  • I thought he was a sonor man.

  • Exactly, you just cannot compare those two things. Drums produce actual sound. Why should I let that go and create unnatural sounds that have hardly any vitality. I'm just saying, I would never use that kind of stuff. It's just not real. Doesn't feel real!

  • Sorry bro, but triggering has absolutely nothing to do with amplifying.

  • Seriously ... how can you say that triggering is good in any way and make such a product. Only real sound is the real thing!

  • @AaronHellvis

So what you are saying is that electric guitars and basses are not real? Or any type of amplifying?

Dude, just be quiet. No offence tho!

  • how much are ekits?

  • @xXAlecXxC If you go to Midwest Peruccsion, it'd be around $80/each + S&H

  • @xXAlecXxC Midwest Percussion, my bad

  • 1:58 :P

  • Dang drumming is going hi-tech !

  • try the pearl eliminators

    trust me

    the ones virgil donati uses

  • 0:23 why is this guy laughing his ass off about dereks joke, that wasn't funny.

  • meinl cymbals are some very kickass cymbals.

  • I'd like to add that I own Dw,Pearl,Ludwig,Camco,Air Logic, AND Slieshman pedals as well. And I might add they pale in comparrision . I've also tried the Trick pedal, and it's nice, but it does not play what your foot is telling it to play.I also like the fact that you can speak to someone anytime at the factory, right in the U.S.A.Try that with some of the Chinese or Taiwan crap they're telling you is as fine as the Axis.

  • Comment removed

  • @Deagledrumzz i couldn't agree more, any problem and you instantly get it fixed, they even let me and my band come down and meet everyone this week, really nicce people who are in to making a quality product and backing it...I sure hope they stay here in southern california... they told us they may move soon, they actually had a property in reno Nevada that they had a bid on that fell out of escrow a few weeeks back... here's hoping they stay

  • I've been drumming nearly 50 years now and have owned several Axis pedals over a period of 18 years. Simply put they're the Ferraris of the pedal world. Faster than a speeding bullet, more power than a locomotive.LOL. Axis pedals are silkier, faster, and better engineered.I prefer the X double pedal over the A's,because they're easier to initially setup. Axis also has a fabulous new pedal called the A21,which is also a candidate for the museum of modern art, simply amazing looking.

  • @Deagledrumzz ever used trick pedals? they are equally as good if not better than axis. my friend has both axis and trick pedals and they are both sweet

  • @kanemitchell99 I've tried the trick pedals, they're very fast and well madeI still, prefer the Axis, although the trick is very fine.I like the fact that the Axis factory is in the U.S A and i can talk to someone anytime I want, for me it's better than trying to talk to a computer or someone in China who can give 2 SHITS what you need or think about their mediore crap!!!!!!

  • are'nt those pedals very slippy on the board?

  • is axis better than pearl demon drives? the demons seem to have a lot more features and innovations. axis looks like it just has the super long board and and triggers (which i don't like anyway)...maybe i'm wrong?

  • hey, i have been saving money for a while and im beetween trick or axis and i wonder which one is better, more durable, more adjustable and why? oh yeah and i play death metal.

    somebody please help!

  • @makingmayhem678 Trick are definately the way to go. Their pedals may not be as light as the axis, but they are extremely durable and generally come with an even longer footboard than the axis. I also hear that axis pedals are hard to maintain and break down. They also have springless tension which is easily adjustable, just the turn of a knob, and the footboard and beater angle are both individually adjustable. I personally am a big fan of the trick dominators. Hope that helps

  • Axis forever. Proud owner of one.

  • How cool is this guy? Amazing double bass player, amazing drummer altogether, and super cool guy...

  • hey guys, get back to the vid. axis is good but too expensive for me. i use tama iron cobra

  • 0:21

That was such an asshole thing to say.

  • what would you say are better pedals... iron cobras or axis?

  • axis

  • axis

  • @hornyjonjeremy69 It depends what type of music you play.

  • listen faggot, i have iron cobras and they'd kick these homo pedals' ass anyday.

  • Hey listen here. First of all your life is probably spent washing dishes and cooking your bitches food so shut up.

  • i'm a proud stay at home mom and theres nothing wrong with making my bitches food all day so just shut the hell up, your dogs a whore

  • My dog would fuck the shit so far up your stomache you will be eating it for dinner for two weeks so then you wont have to make your bitch dinner you fucking idiot. Fuck you,

  • your dog is so dumb that this one time i was petting it and it bit my hand thats how retarded it is so i'd shut up if i were you, no one likes retard dogs

  • I <3 my retarded dog. What normal thing would fuck you. YOu have herpes up and down your body. You look like the appalachian mountains were put on your face.

  • yeah well jazz flute is for little sissy girls

  • SO is the skin flute bud.

  • i play your dogs skin flute almost every night

  • And my dads.

  • and your brothers and your sisters and your mothers!

  • You wish.

  • i dont have to wish because i already do

  • Maybe your mom and brother

  • Comment removed

  • Oh well that sucks for you. Go fuck a wall or something.

  • i already did because of how sad i was

  • Try an applepie next time

  • oh yeah i heard that works pretty good if you warm it up in the microwave first

  • Yeah but only if you have a tiny dick.

  • yeah so in my case it works, not for alot of people though i'm one of the lucky americans to have a 1/2 inch penis, girls really like it too

  • So your dick is pretty much one big herpe

  • NO!@#@!! :[

  • can anyone help me? i want a double axis pedlel to choose from. i think its A, the X, or the longboards? i am really stuck !

  • longboards man, they are the ultimate if you already havent chosen something else

  • if i was rich maaaaannn, if i was rich....

id know what to buy fosho hahaha i didnt even kno axis made hardware NIICEE!!!!!

  • Lightweight cymbalstands are NOT great, they tilt far too easily! Especially the base should be heavy as old Sabbath I HATE when people sell out their own credibility for cash/sponsorships.

  • really? haha makes sense tho... i love gibralter, thats all i use for stands but you'd think axis would take the time to sell good stands,

  • @dxhjkg I use a Gibraltar rack nowadays, so no matter for me, but anyone reading this, using stands: If you have any heavy cymbals (16" and above), it's always a good idea to use stands with a heavy tripod - especially if you have a boom arm pulled out. I do one-handed gripping a lot and they tilt constantly if the cymbal is somewhat heavy, on a boom arm and on a lightweight stand.

  • oh for sure! you hafta. and even with my stands (gibralter boom double braced) my crashes teeter alittle, but i mean, thats only when the boom is all the way out

  • trainning foot muscles helps get speed bass? 0o

  • Doesn't that only make sense?

  • derek is just to good with his feet love him when hes not playing his hardcore metal stuff

  • his accent is awesome

  • what accent? oO im from germany so i cant tell...

  • @M3G4G0TH certain words he has an accent with. like when he says Nile, it sounds like "Nioh" haha but he's an awesome drummer

  • how much?

  • how about the tama iron cobra?

  • DW pedals have footboards that are too thick to get any kind of speed out of them, unless you have bodybuilder legs or have practiced with them for years. Axis are wickedly fast and still hold the record with Tim Waterson in being the fastest. Pearl and Trick are total rip offs with flaws that hinder the speed. This is why I ordered a set of AL2 longboards a week ago and expecting them on Monday. I used to use a single Axis A pedal(shortboard) and it was the best I ever used. Axis all the way.

  • haha luckily im a weightlifter cuz i got a dw5000 double bass pedal. I want an axis but im not sure whether to get it

  • haha 1:58

  • lolololol yeah :D

  • How much cost Axis stands? And pedal too?

  • The double pedal I bought cost me $700 plus shipping. I live in Canada and had to pay the difference. I would honestly shell out $1000 if I had to just to play on these. Tried longboards out once and if you play heel toe at all...holy fkn shit! Thats all I have to say about that lol. If you can afford them or want to save up for them.....DO IT! Do not hesitate or look at other pedals. You will be choked with yourself you never went with Axis. They rule dude. Get these if you love drumming.

  • He has a much higher pitched voice than I thought he would.

  • in the very begining when i couldnt see his hair i though he was an axis product manager or something haha

  • trigger lolz

  • i have a question for any1 with an axis double pedal. have you ever had any problems at all with them? i might switch my dw 5002s for used axis pedal because after 3 weeks with my dw pedal the springs and hinges are starting to fail

  • only problem ive had is sometimes one of the beaters gets loose and i have to tighten it every now and then. doesnt happen very often so its really not a big deal

  • ya i dont mind that small stuff like that. thanks :D

  • ull love the pedals. worth every penny

  • k thanks im thinking of getting guitar center to trade me my dw 5002s for a used axis double pedal because ive only had the damn pedal for 3 weeks and its starting to fail...and its really slugish

  • my drum teacher had 5002s on the kit we used and i hated them so much. they'll more than likely take the trade no problem

  • omfg thats great news! lol there sooooooo amazingly slow....probly my last dw hardware product im going to buy..there drums are good but over priced to....:/

  • is ur kit a dw as well?

  • never had any problem with them but it may take some time to get used to them

  • not a fan of axis, but that trigger component for the pedal is great and an ingenious idea! and the fact that they're made of light weight metal is great too...

  • yeah they look like shit but honestly if its that much lighter i would take it any day.

  • You can hear Mike Terrana playing his song "Detonator" at the ddrum booth, 2:41

  • lmao the guy's laugh in the background at 0:26 is hilarious!

  • hm and you can connect it to any amplifier?

  • can anyone tell me what a "trigger" actually is im not a drummer obviosly or i would know that but i was just wondering .

  • Pretty much a pre-recorded sound that plays when u play. It's not cheating cos it plays to how well you time it. Pretty much turning it into an electric drum kit sorta lol

  • yes, like pressing a key, and plays sound!

not cheating, because you must use your speed, but you don't need to drum with full stregenth

  • which is better this, trick dominater, pearl demon drive, iron cobra or dw

  • iwanna say iron cobra i hear a lot of people saying they like it better then axis

  • It depends, long board or short?

  • All personal Preference.

  • axis for sure.....

  • why do some drummer's mount their toms like that; the biggest to the left and the small one to the right?

  • Dude, that is a good question. I have been asking myself that very question for a while now.Lol. Not only on my own set, but on almost every kit, the toms are smallest on the left side and get bigger as you go to the right. Idk

  • no clue, but he's Derek Roddy, I wouldn't question it

  • Derek mounts his toms like that so he can work on developing his left aswell as his right.

  • you can acheive sounds/fills that you only could normally by starting with your left hand, check marco minnemann.

  • yeah just lets you come up with some really wierd sounding fills about easier, good idea i rekon.

  • i really like the solo by the end

  • can anybody tell me what triggers are?? i actully dont get it

  • they are these things, that are pretty small, hook up to the drum, and then link up to a drum module (the brain 4 an electric kit).

they have a sensor that touches the skin, so when u hit it an electrical signal is sent to the module, which makes an artificial sound., so u probably won't have to mike ur kit.

    hope this helped :)

  • argh so do you only use them for live playing? n ye it deffo helped cheers man:)

  • u can use em whenever u want, plus, no problem

  • cooooool im a sucker for things that look cool. im diggin the black. gotta try out these axis pedals. heard so damn much, never even tried em in a store.

  • after getting a pair of axis pedals i don't think i'll ever use anything else. those pedals are truely a work of art.

  • MWA HA HA HA HA HAAA .......lol camera guy is fuckin over the top

  • I'm not digging the hardware too much, well the looks but i guess it doesn't matter too much.

    I love the longboards though

  • I've got some Axis AX-2 pedals for sale if anyones looking for a pair!! check out my video for info!!!

  • derek is drumming god his work with nile and hate eternal was amazing and axis pedals are pretty killer too. and yah that laught lmao

  • he is a drum god! and axis is awesome! the trigger things surprised me

  • haha 00:28 that cameraguy's laugh was so douschy

  • Hahahaha so true.

  • who laughs like that???

    =D lmao

  • People who are considered douches in society.

  • ekits are ok but im a fan of the ddrum pro acoustic triggers. for kicks...

  • you can hear mike terrana playing somewhere near! cool!

  • derek is a killah =D

  • yeah i gotta say derek seems like a really chilled guy, hes one of my favorite drummers

  • bass player always cause problems...

  • HAHA

  • wtf!!!

he was talking to that guy saying ur a camera guy

    as in

he likes to be infront of the camera.....

  • Why are metal drummers the nicest people you'll ever meet? Go figure...

  • i know, they don't seem nice on stage though!lol!=)

  • probably because they devote their lives to the art, because it requires so much... and they've just had a good attitude about it. Derek Roddy is a great drummer... it'd be great to meet him in person.

  • wtf r u talking about?!?!?! lets see...all u have to look at is mayhem and dissection....they all kill people...hahaa

maybe its jjust the nordic black metal people

  • ur just jealous bastered thats prolly never touched an axis pedal

  • better work hard whit a simple and versatile, old iron Cobra...

  • to give you an idea of axis product price, i got a pair of axis longboard pedals (George Kollias of Nile uses them) for 600 second hand about 6 months ago, they were 1200 new. they were good when i used them on two bass drums, but when i put them together on one bass drum, the left kick was always weaker than the right and it really threw my drumming off. I was pissed actually as i am not so technologically competent i couldnt adjust them properly

  • i don't care how many times i hear it... but i never get sick of that "I Monarch" groove he does with his feet.

  • I really need some axis pedals! I've been wanting some long boards forever!

  • me too!!! does anyone hav an idea of how much they cost??? the most expensive axis pedal obcourse???

  • a single A longboard pedal costs £190 double A longboard pedal cost like £440, pretty expensive.

    a single X longboard pedal costs £150

    a double x pedal costs around £370

the only difference is that the A pedals use the variable drive lever and the X have a metal strap thing, dont know what difference that makes to the playing, but it better be good for that much money.

  • why do they X longboards cost less than the A longboards. I thought that the X longboards would cost less

  • is that first pedal the black classic?

  • obviously

  • toms sound crap but the i like the snare

  • yeah the toms are way to deep

  • haha derek says shit

  • the snare drum sounds really bad!!!

  • i love his footwork

  • good salesman

  • Playing Sepultura zamba

    haha!

  • That trigger is genius.

  • arnt the double pedals over $1000 AUS?

  • idk but in usa price rage 500-650 i think thats about it

  • damn i wish i was sponsored by axis hahahahaah

  • the toms sound like crap

  • light hardware is always gud but i bet it costs alot

  • SO EXPENSIVE BUT SO WORTH IT...

  • nice personality dude... derek roddy rules!!!!

  • Heh, he said shit...

  • The trigger only make the sound of your base drums clearer, meaning its gonna be of equal dynamics and it help the defintion of the kick

  • do triggers make your pedals faster?

  • no. they are made for a clear sounds, triggers are connected to sound sampler, when you hit the drum head, you get sound from computer, so you get better sound, and still playing well.

  • ahh cool.

cheers i was a bit confused about them

  • np mate, i was confused also, some time ago .

  • Who was that black dude in the begining? He kind of looks like Lester Estelle Jr.

  • Do those triggers only work on axis pedals?

  • dont get ekits. they DO double trigger. go with DDrum Pro Acoustics. ekits also break easily
