Very good isnstructions, is it possible to blend the back into the top with the clippers instead of scissors, so I can do it myself and if so, how pls :)
Gos why women, men's hairdressing should be by men, and you do not hold the top of the clients head when you cut hair, and good barbers do not need an over comb on their clippers, after 50 odd years in the trade this I do know....
Hey i got a question whats the best way to blend my hair using a 5 on top and a 3 on the sides. iv been cutting my hair for 2 years now. Any suggestions ?
This video is pretty good compared to the other rubbish on YouTube. It actually gives a good detailed explanation of how to use the clippers to cut hair in a logical fashion.
My gf just used the tips including the scissors part to cut mine and it's turned out pretty well. It's certainly going to save us money!
@brittanybrown89 to be fair to PillowcaseHead, there are alot of bad barbers out there. They seem to want to rush through everything, and want to do as minimal a job as possible - unless they're charging you ridiculous prices like £40 a cut or something. There are still plenty of good barbers out there who take pride in their work without charging you an arm and a leg, but there seems to be many more who don't.
Trust us when we ask exactly what you want, we aren't mind readers and I refuse to accept "Just cut it, do whatever!" because I can guaruntee that if I did, you would not be happy. Tell us exactly, bring in pictures...then we'll give you the cut you want, Jesus. It's not hard, you get what you ask for. End of.
@TopHaggardDoll I think thats a copout. can it be that many men dont know what "style" they want, that they just want to look sharp and well groomed. there is a basic method to cutting a mans hair in a classic fashion, many of you professionals dont seem to have a clue about it. You may not get the customer exactly what he wants, but there is no excuse for you letting him leave looking anything but great.
@TopHaggardDoll You may not give the customer exactly what he wants, but there is no excuse for you letting him leave looking anything but great. If he does, it is because you cannot give a decent haircut, not b/c his instructions are lacking. You are the professional, the customer should not be expected to have the technical vocabulary to describe to you the cut he wants.
I know, It makes me nervous when the hairstlyist askes me how I want my hair cut. Because I know i'm going to mess up somewhere in my explination and my haircut will be a peice of crap. I wish they would just ask- "how long do you want it". The rest I'm sure they could figure out.
We never expected this kind of discussion on hair cuts! It's great really as long as everyone remembers this is just meant to help out the person just trying to trim hair at home, not going for the most en vogue style.
Yes, and if the haircut turns out horribly or isn't stylish at all, they can always blame you. i think that a good haircut should be in 'style' but cut to suit you.
A professional shouldn't have a problem with that, especially with a relatively fuss-free short men's cut...
This is true. This lesson isn't designed for professional stylists, it is designed for people who are looking for a simple way to trim mens hair with clippers.
why don't you just show them a picture of a style you like. That is all the explaination you'd ned unless you wanted to tweak it a bit and add some changes.
Your argument is all over the place. First you say they are all incompetent and unskilled. Then when they ask you how exactly you want it cut you get pissed off they didn't just do whatever. They're snobs who know what they're doing, which is what you want, or they ask you what you want, which is professional to make sure your customer is happy.
It's helpful though. That's what most normal everyday people use- wahl clippers. Hopefully professionals aren't looking for tips off youtube for their customers. I'm just trying to figure out how to not screw my husbands hair up every time. Good video, Thanks.

@shamar797 What about the Andis clipper? Are those good as well? I hear alot of people recommending the Andis clippers for fades, tapers, and crew-cuts. I wear my hair in a bald fade, #3 on top, and I want to get some new clippers. I'm Just trying to decide what kind of clippers to get.

Hmm, seems you're taking my comments personally.
I guess that's a natural reaction from someone who probably sleepwalks through her workday.

Yeah...and you're a douche...natural reaction for someone who probably doesn't even have a job

Hairstylists these days, for the most part, are incompetent, unprofessional, and unskilled.
Money invested doesn't seem to matter these days. It's a complete crapshoot trying out cuts worth $10 even up to $125....
Yet these snobs act like they know what they're doing, or the opposite "How do you want it cut?"
Duh, a cool, modern hairstyle that will suit my face... duh... If I have to tell you what size clipper to use, etc., what the hell am I doing here?

Even though it is ok to hold the head in a particular position, I'm not too crazy about the "applying more pressure" on the client's head.
