show time, fast break, team, pass, score. No team was like this Lakers. This team could put 120 on you any night.Magic is the greatest point guard ever period. Kareem the best center. Big game James! This team ruled, the made us cheer like maniacs and they broke our hearts. 9 finals in 12 years and 5 rings. What a great run.
@xTnT87 Magic may have helped him get there, but Kareem averaged 28.6 ppg before Magic ever came into the league, so no, Kareem is number one in points because of Kareem, not Magic.
Lets not kid ourselves. I am a massive Lakers fan because of Magic. But MJ is the greatest player to play the game. He is way above everyone else. Take him away as if he never existed and you could argue a case for Magic being the best ever. You could also have an arguement for Kobe and many others IMO.But there is no doubt in my mind Magic Johnson and his Lakers (my lakers:) were the most entertaining to watch ever.
i LOVE magic johnson to death. to me, the 2nd best player all time. I think a lot of laker fans get defensive or are afraid to admit or believe that the GOAT is not a laker, but rather a chicago bull. people, mainly laker fans cant come to the reality. they think the greatest individual player has to be from their franchise. they shit talk jordan, but if it aint Magic who is the greatest, then they claim Kobe bryant is
@etnbtlh well championships wise he will... and he'll probably lead his team to more championships then magic did. But he's definantly not as great as magic.
jordan is a team player, he always brings up his team and tries everything to win. anyway, they are both great players. too bad magic couldn't play longer.
@waihong001 Jordan is not team player. He had coach fired because he wanted him to pass more. When phil got there with the triangle MJ didn't like it because it took shots away from him
@Hoopfanify Jordan was a team player. He'd do whatever it took to win. Just because he was a elite scorer, thats all he wanted to do when he had the ball, guess why? because no could stop him. but cause what. if he wasnt a team player he wouldnt have 6 rings.
@CertifiedPG If nobody could stop him then what in the world in payton do in the finals. What in the world were the jazz doing wrong when they made him shoot below 45% in 8 games of 12 they played in the finals. That bulls team was a well oilded machine that balanced putting up with jordan's shot jacking while still winning games
@CertifiedPG "because no could stop him". These are your words. Jordan was not a team player that bulls team just found away to walk the fine line of letting jordan get satisfied with his FGA while staying in sync
Uhmm that was after 10 years into the league their genius. And Gary Payton was DPOY in 96 and in his prime and in the top 5 greatest perimeter defenders of all time. 88-93 Jordan. Unstoppable. Period. But this video is about Magic Johnson. Greatest PG ever.
@GoingOn9Lives I know iam a genius no need to point it out. Maby if you were one you would know that when jordan came back most coaches and players believe he was even better because he developed a even more potent jumper.
No they believed he was better the same way ignorant Kobe fans say he is the greatest. Just because you developed a post game and you have a wade variety of moves does not mean you are better than in your prime. 91-93 MJ had an amazing jumper and more important had amazing speed. Thats why he was shooting 50%. That first retirement destroyed his speed. You could tell
@GoingOn9Lives Your making excuses for him. Bottom line is that when he came back he was still winning scoring titles(while ball hogging of course) and he might have gotton a tad slower but you cannot blame that all on his supposed speed he lost
No. Excuses is pardoning Magic for losing 4 out of the 5 times he went to the finals despite almost always having the better team and being in a weaker western conference. He was also upset twice by the houston rockets in the Western Conference finals. Two of the biggest upsets in history. Was MJ ever upset? No. In fact he often upset better teams. And in 1989 he lead the bulls to defeat the pistons 2x ( the only two losses they had). That Pistons team went on to sweep
Jordan continued to play at the PG spot until the end of the season. In these 24 games he averaged 29.3ppg, 8.9rpg, 10.6 apg, 2.4spg. Between March 24 and April 14, 1989, he recorded a triple double in ten of the eleven games, including seven consecutive ones. In the game he didn't record a TD, he finished with 40 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds.
Dude whatever you say. Not bad for a first year ever playing the PG position. He didnt remain a PG because that wasnt the style the bulls played. Magic always had kareem and always had a formidable frontcourt to play his fastbreak passing style.
to sweep Magics lakers. Thats during his first 10 years in the league. You never judge a players prime after 10 years into the league. You always analyze the first 10. MJ from 1985-1995 was a 54% shooter on over 30 PPG averaged about 7 RPG and 7 APG. Thats pretty amazing. And the one year MJ played PG he averaged 33 PG 8 APG and 8RPG. He had more triple doubles in half a season playing magics position than Magic had his best full season. Facts player
@GoingOn9Lives I know your lien even before he came back jordan did not shot 54%. Your making up stuff. Jordan getting those tripple doubles is impresive but i bet you didn't know that on more then on occassion he was seen at the scorers table asking how many boards or points he needed to get those tripple double. He was stat padding magic wasn't if magic wanted to he could have but magic was more about WINNING then stats
Doug Collins decided to move Jordan to the point guard spot against Seattle on March 11, 1989. He finished that game with 15 assists. Two days later, he had a game of 21/14/14 against the Pacers in just 30 minutes of playing time in a 32-point blowout win. He reached the triple double mark in just 21 minutes.
"Since Oscar Robertson, who averaged double-figure totals in each category over a full season for his first six years in the league, Johnson has the most triple-doubles in a season with 18. Jordan already has 11 triple-doubles while learning the new position. "
@GoingOn9Lives dumbass jordan nvr avg 30ppg 7 apg 7ppg, hes best season was 88-89, who avg 32.5 ppg, 8 rpg, and 8 apg, jordan nvr play PG dumbass, all jordan had to do if score, jordan doesnt built a team, magic does, if u want to start a nba team, u do not want jordan, cuz tht man need supporting cast, magic on the other hand, can win with avg players, no wonder why magic won a ring in his 2nd yr of nba, nd jodan didnt win shit until pippen came.
You stupid fuck. 32.5 8 RPG and 8 APG is better than 30 PPG 7 APG and 7 RPG. Are you fucking retarded, you're just proving my point. AND YES DUMBASS he did play PG during his 89 season. Its on the internet. GO TO GOOGLE and type in "Jordan played point guard". Its the fifth site down.
@GoingOn9Lives lmao, put jordan on da lakers, with avg player, i wanna see that son of a bitch win 6 rings. look at wat kinda player jordan played with wen he won 6 rings, jordan on had on season that avg 22.5 8 nd 8, magic had near 20 7 nd 11 for a career, now y da fuck u even watch magic if u loved jordan so much, go watch that bulls nigger, stop sayin jordan is better than magic, cuz hes not.
@StFuMoThErFuCkEr wtf. If Jordan played with the lakers, with kareem, james worthy, byron scott, cooper...the lakers and MJ would have own MORE than 6 rings.
@dmun5587red123 Nope. MJ couldn't stand to lead anyone before Phil Jackson got to the Bulls and had to convince him that he needed to play the coach's way.
@StFuMoThErFuCkEr when jordan went to chicago the bulls were the 2ª worst team of the league, only the pacers were worst. years later jordan gave them 6 championships. jordan had only scottie pippen around (16 points per game in his career) and the rodman rebounds...magic had jabbar (6 nba mvp) and a lot of players of the all stars game like wilkes, nixon, worthy... jabbar (from 1980 to 87 : 23 points per game) , wilkes from 80-83: 21 points per game, worthy 80-86 : 21 points per game...
@GoingOn9Lives even in those nba finals in 1991, jordan played like point guard in those 5 matches and jordan averaged 31 points 12 assists and 7 rebounds. magic johnson averaged 19 points 11 assists and 7 rebounds...obviously the bulls won: bulls 4- lakers 1
@StFuMoThErFuCkEr Yessss!!!! Not to mention when jordan became a baseball player and took a break from the nba the bulls went all the way to the nba easten confrence final game seven and lost on a controversial call vs the Knicks. Pippen was an allstar if all you idiots didnt know!!! Jordan did it by himself? get the hell out of here. Rodman, Grant, Pippen... by himself really!!!???
@hexsrob - Agreed - MJ - the most overrated athlete in the history of sport. ESPN and corporate sponsors shoved Jordan down our throats at every opportunity.
Magic did have his sponsers but Jordan's teams would have been swept by the "showtime Lakers" and the 80's Celtics. When Kareem retired there was nobody to pass the torch to. Hakeem, Ewing , Robinson, O'Neal , Mourning were fine centers. Not one of them compared to Wilt, Kareem and Russell.
@42marisol1 What you surely have to consider is those guys were all giants, common man, the amount of so called shot blockers whom Jordan finished on top of, is just stupid, Mourning, Ewing and that reverse dribble baseline dunk was just sick as Ewing was waiting for him and he still dunked it on him, but having said all that, I would much rather watch Magic pass the ball all day, than watch Jordan dunk all day, and Magic involved all the guys, none better than a team player.
@micljnes if ur implying jordan isn't a team player then ur wrong because jordan made all of his teammates way better. yes jordan is the best scorer of all time, which u forgot to mention because his game wasn't just about his dunks, but that doesn't mean he didn't involve his teammates, even during big situations. jordan is the best ever and magic is top 10 or top top 5. its hard to tell who comes after jordan.
@shmero444 you have players that make there teamates better directly and ones who do so indirectly..guys like magic johnson, jason kidd, john stockton and chris paul simplify the game for less talented players these guys have the abilty to make an ordinary team extraordinary...i love MJ to death he's my fav and probably always will be but if MJ passed the ball it was because the defense made him do it lol i've seen him throw up way to many shots double and sometimes even triple teamed
@shmero444 yes jordan was great but scottie pippen will never get the credit he deserves..MJ was the superstar but pippen was the consumate teamate he was the glu guy for those championship bull teams pippens unselfishness is what kept 1of if not the greatest duo together for 6 championship runs..there has to be a magic johnson, scottie pippen, bill russell on a championship team if they are to succeed for a long period of time
@youz1uglybish jordan has been the greatest scorer in nba history but jordan was a great team player too... in the nba finals in 1991against lakers jordan played like a play maker. in those 5 games he averaged "only" 31 points but he get 11 assists per game... in 1989 doug collins make jordan play like a play maker too during 13 games in april 1989. in those 13 games jordan gets 12 triple doubles and averaged 32 points 11 rebounds and 11 assists... jordan could be a incredible team player
lol jordan passed the ball when he absolutley had to! if you watch what teams like the pistons did with michael jordan defensively they pretty much said look some 1 else is going to have to beat us in order for the bulls to advance! it was called the jordan rules every time jordan touched the ball he had 10 eyes on him waiting to colapse the second he attempted to get into the painted area..jordan was phenomenal but guys like magic, scottie pippen, bill russell where the ultimate teamates!
@youz1uglybish i dont hace your opinion about scottie pippen. he was a good player, specially in defense, of course. he help jordan to win 6 rings, of course, but you can,t compare magic johnson with pippen. magic was a play maker, pippen was a forward and dont forget jordan averaged more assists than pippen in all his career getting the double of points
@jordanpo im not comparing there styles of play..im simply stating the fact that they had the same team 1st mentality! scottie pippen stat wise would have been much better without jordan because if you look back at the 90's on several other teams pippen had the talent to be the go to guy (1st option)! he played along side jordan because winning was more important than individual accolades! if kobe wasn't so selfish he could have won atleast 2 more championships with shaq this is the difference!
@youz1uglybish oh, all right...in this case i agree with you...scottie pippen knew his role in the bulls so he played for the team to win... yes, that,s true.... i understood you bad, i,m sorry...
@42marisol1 ha, that's laughable. of course jordan was getting sponsored all the time because he was the most marketable human being on the planet. greatest showman in sports and greatest player to overcome adversity. ur right about magic and the 80's, possibly the best era, i dano its tough to tell between that and the 90s. but don't ever discredit jordan, cuz that's just sounds dumb.
thats because we have so many defenses that teams can switch to easliy like 3-2 the zone if perfected there is no way ur gonna get inside if you do its gonna be hard and no look passes work when another defender is on you and u bring attention to ur self in a 3-2 there is no way to get inside and everyone gets the same amount of attention but Magic would do jus to great because hes so big thats why hes the best PG ever
LOL...Magic`s no look passes came mostly on the fastbreak when they had 3-2 or 2-1. Magic could push the ball down the center of the court better than any player that ever played the game. He did he for 40+ minutes every night.
What can u not say about Magic. A great passer, a good scorer, A good defender, a leader, a good teammate, can play every position. Man, this guy is just GREAT. I love watching him play. A Genius on the court in so many ways. His Legacy will never be forgotten.
@VeoShock "a good defender"? when was that? Magic was great and there won't be another like him. But defensively???...average at best during his prime and by 1989 a world class defensive liability. Def. a top 5 player of all time though.
Its very difficult for a guy that is 6.9 to dribble against players thar are 6.4, 6.3 or 6.2 because its easier for these shorter dudes to to steal the ball since they are closer to the ground and usually faster. Whats incredible about Magic is he had the dribbling skill of the greatest PGs, the greastest Court Vision Ever! and the intelligence of Greatest Legends. To Add, he was also quite strong and could have played Powerforward while having more skill than any of these. He had no position
i agree plus think of how many guys taller than you that have no coordination im 5'9 and some dudes i ball with that are over six feet can't handle a rock...as a matter of fact they seem to move like they are on stilts....He could handle the rock and kept himself between the ball and quicker defenders
lakers just cheating using the refs, part of nba marketing, the 83 sixers got least press of all time and swep lakers and celtics, one fo most dominant teams of all time, on len bias dying stopped celts from having 6 in 80s, and injuries got lakers quite a fwe, as well as massive homecourt calls

@42marisol1 What you surely have to consider is those guys were all giants, common man, the amount of so called shot blockers whom Jordan finished on top of, is just stupid, Mourning, Ewing and that reverse dribble baseline dunk was just sick as Ewing was waiting for him and he still dunked it on him, but having said all that, I would much rather watch Magic pass the ball all day, than watch Jordan dunk all day, and Magic involved all the guys, none better than a team player.
micljnes 9 months ago
@micljnes if ur implying jordan isn't a team player then ur wrong because jordan made all of his teammates way better. yes jordan is the best scorer of all time, which u forgot to mention because his game wasn't just about his dunks, but that doesn't mean he didn't involve his teammates, even during big situations. jordan is the best ever and magic is top 10 or top top 5. its hard to tell who comes after jordan.
shmero444 7 months ago
@shmero444 you have players that make there teamates better directly and ones who do so indirectly..guys like magic johnson, jason kidd, john stockton and chris paul simplify the game for less talented players these guys have the abilty to make an ordinary team extraordinary...i love MJ to death he's my fav and probably always will be but if MJ passed the ball it was because the defense made him do it lol i've seen him throw up way to many shots double and sometimes even triple teamed
youz1uglybish 6 months ago
@shmero444 yes jordan was great but scottie pippen will never get the credit he deserves..MJ was the superstar but pippen was the consumate teamate he was the glu guy for those championship bull teams pippens unselfishness is what kept 1of if not the greatest duo together for 6 championship runs..there has to be a magic johnson, scottie pippen, bill russell on a championship team if they are to succeed for a long period of time
youz1uglybish 6 months ago
@youz1uglybish jordan has been the greatest scorer in nba history but jordan was a great team player too... in the nba finals in 1991against lakers jordan played like a play maker. in those 5 games he averaged "only" 31 points but he get 11 assists per game... in 1989 doug collins make jordan play like a play maker too during 13 games in april 1989. in those 13 games jordan gets 12 triple doubles and averaged 32 points 11 rebounds and 11 assists... jordan could be a incredible team player
jordanpopov1 4 months ago
lol jordan passed the ball when he absolutley had to! if you watch what teams like the pistons did with michael jordan defensively they pretty much said look some 1 else is going to have to beat us in order for the bulls to advance! it was called the jordan rules every time jordan touched the ball he had 10 eyes on him waiting to colapse the second he attempted to get into the painted area..jordan was phenomenal but guys like magic, scottie pippen, bill russell where the ultimate teamates!
youz1uglybish 4 months ago
@youz1uglybish i dont hace your opinion about scottie pippen. he was a good player, specially in defense, of course. he help jordan to win 6 rings, of course, but you can,t compare magic johnson with pippen. magic was a play maker, pippen was a forward and dont forget jordan averaged more assists than pippen in all his career getting the double of points
jordanpopov1 4 months ago
@jordanpo im not comparing there styles of play..im simply stating the fact that they had the same team 1st mentality! scottie pippen stat wise would have been much better without jordan because if you look back at the 90's on several other teams pippen had the talent to be the go to guy (1st option)! he played along side jordan because winning was more important than individual accolades! if kobe wasn't so selfish he could have won atleast 2 more championships with shaq this is the difference!
youz1uglybish 4 months ago
@youz1uglybish oh, all right...in this case i agree with you...scottie pippen knew his role in the bulls so he played for the team to win... yes, that,s true.... i understood you bad, i,m sorry...
jordanpopov1 4 months ago
@42marisol1 ha, that's laughable. of course jordan was getting sponsored all the time because he was the most marketable human being on the planet. greatest showman in sports and greatest player to overcome adversity. ur right about magic and the 80's, possibly the best era, i dano its tough to tell between that and the 90s. but don't ever discredit jordan, cuz that's just sounds dumb.
shmero444 7 months ago
@42marisol1 I could not agree more, and I think your assertion somewhat endorses my later point relative to Magic J and Mike. Peace.

Nobody does no look passes better than Magic, too bad it's a lost art in today's game, where everyone wants to score so bad.
pius222 3 years ago
thats because we have so many defenses that teams can switch to easliy like 3-2 the zone if perfected there is no way ur gonna get inside if you do its gonna be hard and no look passes work when another defender is on you and u bring attention to ur self in a 3-2 there is no way to get inside and everyone gets the same amount of attention but Magic would do jus to great because hes so big thats why hes the best PG ever
sina0824 3 years ago
LOL...Magic`s no look passes came mostly on the fastbreak when they had 3-2 or 2-1. Magic could push the ball down the center of the court better than any player that ever played the game. He did he for 40+ minutes every night.

What can u not say about Magic. A great passer, a good scorer, A good defender, a leader, a good teammate, can play every position. Man, this guy is just GREAT. I love watching him play. A Genius on the court in so many ways. His Legacy will never be forgotten.
VeoShock 3 years ago 3
@VeoShock "a good defender"? when was that? Magic was great and there won't be another like him. But defensively???...average at best during his prime and by 1989 a world class defensive liability. Def. a top 5 player of all time though.

I think the fact that he was much taller than an average point guard made his passes look even better.
tee2pot 3 years ago 3
Its very difficult for a guy that is 6.9 to dribble against players thar are 6.4, 6.3 or 6.2 because its easier for these shorter dudes to to steal the ball since they are closer to the ground and usually faster. Whats incredible about Magic is he had the dribbling skill of the greatest PGs, the greastest Court Vision Ever! and the intelligence of Greatest Legends. To Add, he was also quite strong and could have played Powerforward while having more skill than any of these. He had no position
AceroySangre 3 years ago 4
i agree plus think of how many guys taller than you that have no coordination im 5'9 and some dudes i ball with that are over six feet can't handle a rock...as a matter of fact they seem to move like they are on stilts....He could handle the rock and kept himself between the ball and quicker defenders
