  • This BBS has finesse ! I find benerasi pan an idiot. Get ur head out of ur ass and do something with ur pathetic existance ! If u can't appreciate 2 masters performing in their unique ways from their respective schools I would advise u take up a musical instrument that is befitting ur iq such as a tamborine !

  • Why does this video have any dislikes!!! Its insanity!!! This is musical brilliance!!! Beyond the comprehension of most!!! If you don't get it don't insult such great artists.

  • For someone who has only ever seen the modern day Tabla this will seem odd, but this seems to be the traditional Pakhawaj style of playing, from which the Benaras gharana would have evolved. Great laykari.

  • LOLL

its not a random clap... it jus fills the gap when you pause and shows how many beats your purposely missing out so you can fit the improvised piece (times 3- also known as a thihai), and then land back on the first beat....

  • lol! also the bits of atta thaat he puts on just goes flying all over the place lol!

  • lol..its funnie how he just starts clapping in the middle randomly -- but it sounds good! lol!

  • excellent job done by both of them

  • swaad nahi aya bahi baldeep singh

  • love the phakawaj

  • Dekhiye aap is maamley ko personally mat leiin.. Pinky ji to hamesha se mera hero tha or woh rehenge.. lekhin is baldeep waldeep ko stage se hathana chaiye.. Nahi maine gharaney ya kissi qaum se lafra kiya aur nahi mein karrunga.. Ustad Allah Rakha Khan sahib bhi to Punjab Gharane se hain.. Zakir ji, Tafu sahib, Miyan Kader Baks and many more... Inko to maine kuch nahi kaha.. to phir aapne mere comments ko itna buraa kyu maana.. Baldeep sucks, that`s my vission and u can`t change that!!!!!

  • So, your last post has gone without your identifying yourself (merely as a fan of Ustad Pinky, without your name and details etc being not enough!) & is obviously now considered an apology from you to bhaibaldeep.

Bhaibaldeep has been enriched by men & women of great learning - & when he sings or plays he is keeping alive their dream. You are nobody to dare suggest get him off the stage.

He represents the oldest of all gharanas in South Asia - all others mentioned are offshoots.

    So grow up!

  • i think baldeep shud get off the stage,

mans sorting his pagh out every five minutes and look how low his pagh is by the ears to pinky's loool :P

  • And of course, you seem to be a fan of Pinkyji - so are we - each one of us at ANAD!

  • Hum Benares ke Balwaan hain samje.. Ajao Meydaan mein. dekhte kismey kitna damm hain

  • Banarasi Pan to Kashi ki gali gali mein bikte hain aur thuke hue milte hai Barkhurdar!

Tum apna ata-pata batao to jhatt mulakat bhi ho jati hai...

Ustad Pinky and Pandit Ravi Shankar Upadhyay included many other percussionists are very interested in our meeting.

Banaras is a putra of Punjab - you have broken all protocol of engagement - you must remember. You will get to learn that personally when we meet.

  • Dear BanarasiPaan120 - If you do not identify yourself in your next communication - let it be known that it will be your apology for being disrespectful.

  • abbey oo bina aqal ke tottey..

that comment was 4 a reall master.. not some actor like this stupid baldeep waldeep..

  • he should be in acting, bussines but he must stop playing.. this is an insult!! showing of with his stupid moves and empty sound and lack of knowledge and qualities!!

  • S Das, why do not we all sit down together in Delhi or anywhere - get all the tabla players that you admire and worship - and then talk of material and playing technique.

One thing you will get to learn is some etiquette.

My discussion will only be with the ones you worship - you will be cut to your rightful size by one of my students only.

  • BPaan I have seen many of the great musicians of our age, both percussionists and otherwise, show an enormous amount of respect towards Bhai Sahib and the vidya that he holds. To these greats that tested and found Bhai Sahib a respected exponent of a tradition you are also cursing with your abuses.

  • hahahahhahaha... good one!

  • I would list their names here if it weren't so extensive; though it would be for the clarification of others as you aren't even worthy of hearing the name of my dog. You haven't a clue what you are talking about and can only hide behind cowardice and a pseudonym.

    ~Gurusevak Singh

  • so easily one forgets his own advice!!! a former comment of BanarsiPaan120 on another video:

"I really don`t understand how people can use such bad language infront of such great artist`s! Why do some of u stupid guy`s consider the art of tabla like a horse race?? There is no matter of who is first or last ect. Gain some knowledge noobs!!"

  • Ghandu ji, if you want to reply to my comment then send me a private e-mail, i don't want to have an arguement with you, and i do not want to discuss this any further on this webpage. like i said, if you have anything to say, send me a private e-mail.

  • This is to Ghandu ji. The way you are speaking is not acceptable to me. They aren't "geezas" they are musicians. And yes obviously Pinky ji did paly better than Baldeep Singh ji because Pinky ji is an Ustad. It is obvious to everyone that Pinky ji is better because he is one of the best tabla/jori players in the world. And like fauja said, these two musicians have great respect for each other, and Pinky ji would not respect him so much if he had no material or talent.

  • pinky killed dis geeza off tho still with all due respect. this geeza didnt hav no material to play so he turned to play with the mic

  • Bhai Baldeep singh is also an amazing multinstumentalist. Some thing Pinky Mona isn't

  • lol, it's better to master one instrument rather than become a jack of all trades....

  • why hate anyone, for what ever they do is up to them.

  • you've obviously never spent time with either of these masters. You should see the respect they have for each other as musicians. Do you think Pinky Ji would show the enormous amount of respect for Bhai Baldeep if he didn't have any material or talent? get off your prejudicial high horse and actually spend some time with great people. you might learn something.

  • fantastic duo. great sound grat music.

  • Shriman Charanpreet Bhogal ji, alochana se itna ghabrayiye mat. Jo sangeet jante hain unhe pata hai ki in donon mean kaun kitne pani maen hai. Means to say Gurudev Pinki is great sun. Bhai Bladeep not even candle in front. Ask gunijans. Aapki sabhi galatfehmi dur ho jayegi.

  • banarasi babu,in done ko chhoro tum khud kitne paani mein ho

  • This is a message to everybody that is involved in any sort of music: do not criticize somebody just because you think that they are doing something wrong, enjoy the beautiful compositions being played and have RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER.

  • dont be shit in the first place its a simple as. indias classical music wouldnt be were it is if everyone thought like you. phakwaj you dont play lighty nd be scared of it.

  • is it 24 beats?

  • dude its chaar taal 12 beats

  • This is a wonderful jugalbandi on the Jori Pakhawaj, an instrument I hope to hear more and more in Shabads... tabla is okay for the interim, but the immense history, energy and naada shakti belongs to the Jori - the Jori belongs with Shabads.

  • Bhai Baldeep is doing very little. It is not a jugalbandi. It is a shugalbandi for Bhai sahib. When Bhai Sahib plays, Pinky looks at him with interest. When Pinky plays, Bhai Baldeep is doing other things. He is tuning the jori. He is not actually tuning. It is only a show. He is applying atta paste. He is looking for things. But he is not looking at Pinky. This is ahankar. It is insulting.

  • I appreciate your attention and I am sorry to intervene here.

From your comments over the last few weeks, it is evident that, you have a very little understanding of percussion and the dynamics within.

But still I respected your opinion and sat down to watch the video, again, to see if there is any substance in ur post.

Shugalbandi (thanks for this term - I like it, BTW) it was but, for both of us. U have, it seems, no idea regarding the respect we have for each other.

  • I continued to sing for 3 hours after that & hence we were conservative in our little percussive offering. Playing (& it is not tabla) for 3 hrs can be very consuming.

FYI. Pinkyji's dhamma has a dholak like application and does to need to apply or adjust the atta. If you were to look closely, atta from my dhamma is flying all around & needs to be adjusted and/or reapplied.

But your other observation suggesting that I am not 'involved' in what he is does is absolutely off the mark & suspect

  • Bhai Baldeep yehi aapki samasya hai. Jab shuru ho jate ho to jaroorat se jaada bolte jate ho. bolo kam dikhao jada. Aap artist bure nahin par in front of Pinky. kahan rajha bhoj aur kahan. You push me. I will not say anything. I know inside things. But I will not say. Aur yeh aate wali jori ke din bhai ab lad gaye. kuch aur dhundho. jada gambhir. jada gahan. Aapki bajane men takat aur chintan ki kami hai. Dont feel bad brother.

  • Your dismissal of Jori as not being 'gambhir' & 'gahan' confirms my assessment.

Before I consider your comments as worthy, I would expect you to (via a personal message) introducing yourself. Until then a critique cannot be taken seriously. Anybody can comment (here) but debate begins when a decorum is set & credentials presented.

  • Vidya is about gifts & not a comparison between gifted people. Every single protagonist has his or her own following that believes that there is none other better their own (choice). So no big deal if you consider X better then Y or Z. You are welcome to have your own preferences, & why not?

I may have some curiosity about the 'inside things' you claim to know.

  • Jori has been acknowledged by the elders as the complete percussion instrument in the Indian classical music and there is no miracles that have happened to change that status. Ignorance of a few doesn't change the value and magnificence of any cultural asset.

  • Dear Bhai saheb, don't worry about stupid comments by stupid people. It is because you don't have Pandit or Ustad in front of your name, these people can't see anyone else pay an instrument and be good at it. On top of it, sikh masses will never support sikh musicians. They rather see and support stupid Punjabi folk besura singers.

You and Pinky are jems. You're keeping old tradition alive, we all appreciate it.

  • what are you talking about 'there is no miracles?

  • Ustad Pinkyji's playing here is a lesson for all Jori-pakhawaj-tabla enthusiasts. How dos one manage a composition keeping in mind the whole concert in mind. When to fall silent and when to shower thunder, when to be titillative and when to be in a state of 'samadhi'.

No wonder there is such consideration for each other, celebration and joy in their performance.

  • We learnt from elders such as Bhai Gurcharan Singh, Avtar Singh and their mentor and elder brother Bhai Arjan Singh Tarangar that there used to be atleast two and up to 4 pakhawaj players in a Kirtan chownki! When we see this whole video, shot pretty much in an amateur mode, that Ustad Pinkyji seems tired after some time. It is only because such 'all-dhrupad' performances have not happened for a long tme and was a first for him. Believe it, Jori-pakhawj playing is an arduous task!

  • BBS had a vocal concert to sing immediately after this opening routine and Ustad Pinky Namdhari knew he had to play a long drawn accompaniment, that both of them are just playing about. BBSji is also seen here playing here a generous host, allowing Pinkyji to play and then end the sequence that Pinkyji initiates with matching 'mukaas'. General audience does love this video but so much more is happening that this rare get together is a connoisseurs delight.

  • pinky wud kain him 4 joke wot u onna bout

  • i liked the ending man you can fully tell there amount of knowledge of the Amritsar Gharana, when they play

  • This is just beyond words! The greatest percussion instrument ever! with the greatest ustaads followed by a great performance! i wish i was here live!!

  • Two pillars of Sikh Percussion holding the vidhiya on their shoulders.

This is the sewa that is needed. Words cannot express so I will stop trying.

    Satenam Sri Waheguru Sahib Jee!!!
