  • Does anyone notice that in the beginning Jesus is holding onto something. Could it be that God is helping him up and giving him strength?

  • Does anyone know the significance of Judas being dressed in white here at the end? This tour was the first time I'd come in contact with this show, and I noticed that he was dressed in white. I did research and noticed that Lloyd Weber himself intended him to be dressed in red leather with little devil girls dancing around him. This number is supposed to be Jesus's hallucination, correct? Does anyone else think it holds any meaning?

  • Webber intended to show that Judas went to Hell for betraying Christ. This version shows that he could have gone to Heaven.

  • @Ifileet Why would he go to heaven when he chose to disregard the ulitmate human sacrifice and show absolutely no faith in the ransom of sin for humankind?

  • @Ifileet I mean the ransom FOR sin for all humans, born with the sin of human imperfection, because of Adam and Eve's choice to make their own mistaken independant decision?

  • Calm down. I agree that what Judas did was evil. However, he DID repent. He took the money back to the priests and was so suilty that he hung himself. Some people might have a problem with him commiting suicide, but could you live on knowing that you betrayed the Saviour?

I also believe in judge not. We don't know why Judas betrayed Jesus. The Bible dosn't tell us his inner motives.

Please just take my words as my own opinion.

  • I am not judging him. It certainly is not my place to do that. Killing himself did show lack of faith in God and Jesus, though. He knew that he could have been forgiven. There was no need for him to do that. But ultimately, of course only Jehovah knows the judgement made on him, noone else.

  • He knew he could be forgiven? I'm not so sure how much understanding of God Judas had. As far as Judas was concerned at that point, he had aided in the torture and exectuion of God's son. Would you have the guts to talk to God knowing what you did to his son?

  • Well, he had spent 3 years with Jesus and the apostles. Also, he knew that the most important thing was to vindicate Jehovah's name by preaching about the Kingdom, which was a commission for all Jesus' "followers". Judas could have repented by spending the rest of his life proving his loyalty to Jehovah and Jesus. I don't want to sound judgemental, and I don't mean to offend. I still am not in any position to judge anyone though.

  • You remember that Paul was formerly Saul, who used to persecute Christians, and Jesus appeared to him after he died. Saul repented and became an apostle for the rest of his life. He also wrote many of the books of the Bible, and is undoubtedly forgiven for his former sins. I don't mean to argue, though, I am just discussing:)

  • These two scriptures might bear some light on the subject: (John 3:16) For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.

(John 3:36) He that exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life; he that disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.

But the final judgement is in God's hands, and neither one of us knows what God's thinking is about this.

  • I really can't see Judas in Heaven though, can you?

  • I wish I knew where it was, but there is a verse where he is telling the 12 diciples that they will be in Heaven. Judas is in that 12. I think that could be saying something. I can see Judas in Heaven. About as much as I can see myself in Heaven. I've never done anything quite as dramatic as reveal Jesus' whereabouts in the Romans, but I've done plenty of stuff that's just as bad. All sin is equal in God's eyes. If I am going to blame Judas for Jesus' death, I am also going to blame myself,

  • The production your thinking of is the 2000 taped version which was directed by Gale Edwards - Lloyd Webber apparently had some say in it, but it was just one interpretation of the piece. What Webber "intended" or what he may "prefer" matters very little. One of JCS many strengths is it's flexibility - it's been interpreted hundreds of different ways.

  • @Shelbysanicename It is a mistaken interpretation. Can anyone believe that someone who had known and heard Christ's teachings for threee years, chosen to knowingly betray him, then agai choose to discard hself, was really going to go to heaven?

  • Just saw Matthew in this role tonight in Pensacola. He is fantastic! What an outstanding voice. He and Mark Baratelli as Herod were stand-outs to me.
