@macktheknife888 why must u have such a perverted wicked thought? first same sex, then with animals, now with robots? wats happened to human beings???
In the future, robots may indeed surpass humans in taking care of the elderly (and just about everything else) but right now, they're still far off ... experienced human nurses remain top of the line.
''Bots'' as you know them today are millions of times cheaper seeing as they are merely automated scripts.....I don't think you will be seeing a warehouse full of robots sitting at desks playing WoW anytime soon mate! (As cool as that would be...)
being atheist isnt the way to go. Jesus is the truth and the life i hope you understand that soon...just look around and you can see his magnificent glory. even when you look at the trees you can see signs of his greatness Diwa3001
Imagine they had robots 500 years ago in the deep South to pick cottons? then they wouldn't have needed to buy and export slave negroes from West African villages to toil the fields.
The commentary of this lady was a bit scary in a way..she said armies of robots..lol..Doesnt sound exciting..Any how..Japs in robotics & computer technology is the most advance in the world by far..
while japanese robotic technology is great, i dont think it's really the top.

this is the quadrupedal robot made by boston dynamic. imo this robot is much closer to real life application than Asimo. i've never seem someone kick Asimo to see if it can stay up but this one can.
nope it isnt, but it is more versatile and can travel many different form of terrain.
it is the first step to make a robotic platform that can perform its task in different environment instead of one that dedicate itself to a single task. that is the major different between a computer and a calculator.
No, the first step should be to discern what you are designing the robot for. An all terrain robot needs to be more advanced in certain areas than a robot that will be interacting with humans. Why should a hospital robot need to climb over rubble?
Big Dog is awesome, but at the moment, it doesn't have a whole lot of advantage over a jeep with an autopilot.
As robots become more commonplace, their collective abilities will start to even out and work in new environments. But we're not there yet.
great point. of course we dont need robot to climb in hospital and ive never driven a jeep to know how well that thing fare in the wild.
but after watching watch?v=EKU7omqjvn8, i just think that they should probably make a quadrupedal robot that wont fall b4 going on making a bipedal one. since even if u put ur robot in a hospital, u dont want that robot to take 30 seconds b4 setting first step on a stair just to falldown with a trayful of medicine....
I've always hoped that when (if?) I got old, I'd have a robot to help me. No one wants to be a burden and robotic assistance could give the elderly more independence. Also, robots (unless programmed) will not abuse the elderly like some humans do in convalescent care facilities. The applications for advanced robotics to help people are enormous. Hopefully, the weaponization of robots will be kept to a minimum otherwise, the chance of any of us growing old becomes less and less.
it's sad to see how elder ppl don't have their families nearby to take care of them, and robots will never be able to replace humans, ppl don't need services only ,they need someone to talk to and like... emotions:)
I feel like I'm living in an Isaac Asimov novel watching this video. But seriously, it's great technology is being used for helping vulnerable people rather than just making moolah.
The Japanese don't intend to use robots that way, Honda specifically states that Asimo will not be employed for ANY military purpose. However, I can see America using robots for war very easily.
During the WWII, Toyota made tank, Mitsubishi made Warship and Nissan made engines for fighter plane (the zeroes).
With N.Korea and China as neigbours you think Japan doesn't want to protect herself?
Japan Self-Defense Forces (Jieitai) has $48.8 billion/year budget makes it the fifth largest military spender in the world, after the United States, France, United Kingdom, and China.
yeah but since WW2 Japan's military is for self-defense purposes ONLY (besides their UN obligations abroad). The only major military aggressor in the world these days seems to be USA, and they are using war robots that don't look anything like humanoids (more like humvees). So I don't think we have anything to fear from Japan's humanoids. They are clearly being developed to work as caregivers to the elderly.
china and japan will become one and then they will together defeat USA, UK and then they will together rule the world including the under-developed curse on Earth such as Indian Subcontinent and African Continent - Insult to Humans will become the best when they will be ruled by Japanese.
wat u want to tell to the world is nonsense.. indians, paki and other shit countries were aryans from europe and original shitty dravidians.. africans never moved out of their stupid continent..
electronics generate heat. machines can dissipate this heat through the synthetic skin of their hands. humans burn fuels in their body and release this heat the same way. so they may some day have a warm hand.
they'll just be used to fight wars eventually. it'll just be the whole nuclear fiasco all over again. pple wud just make something with so much potential into something bad
A lot of people in here are saying hey nurses need to be human.I disagree for 50% because most nurses just do their job(unemotional)otherwise they would get crazy, simple because they don't care. For1 block only a few nurses thats to much work a simple task becomes a routine very quick. Old people are given injections(even lethal) to numb them so they stop complaining. saying stop all your work and dreams and your future for making robots because some nut will use them for a bad cause is wrong.
Also that business man with his plethora of robots in the background doesn't really care about the old people he speaks of he cares about business. There would be way for old people to have real pets: cats, birds, rabbits, tiny dogs... with a good system of training & cleanliness management, but people can't cash in on implementing these natural solutions as well as they can on production lines and technology. The problem today is that humans are in love with money & fame, not nature or life.
This is sad. We are not able to treat other human beings like our family yet, and we are looking for solutions in robots? It will never be safe to trust a robot as they malfunction an have no sense.
Aren't there enough people without jobs and homes to be trained to take care of the elderly instead of wasting time in the lab creating Frnkenstein?
Japanese culture seems to shallow looking at this. Pensioners aren't a "problem" we are their legacy & they our roots. They need love not technology!
within 5 to 10 years these robots will be taking over the world - they will kill without remorse. war will be like nothing we've seen before. all it takes is programming. Japan will take over all countries. Joke? Who Knows.
I think it is. I work in an old people's home. And human to human contact is essentialto everyone, mostly old people.
The robot dog for people with sever dementia might be acceptable, but as an extra thing to help overcome lonelyness. A living dog is much better
Old people befriends nurses and careworkers, make distinctions between who they love and trust. Actions are spontaneous not planned. How can a robot distinguish if your bothered, sad, really sad or devastated and wanting to die?
And how long before humans start to leave their basic instincts behind and robots become more and more intelligent and become sentient? They are either going to be our human next stage in evolution or our darkest nightmare once they realize that we are not fit to run the planet anymore? MATRIX ANYBODY?
give geniuses the resources they need to bring about this revolution and ease us of the burdens these machines can relieve us of since the human labour just isnt there to fill in the gap. humans where not meant to work, but robots are.
While Ri-man may be a good idea, I still think it's missing so much that the elderly need and trying to take that responsibility off of the young. With it you wouldn't be able to discuss politics, share grief of a lost one or engage in a conversation with it the same way you would a person, no matter how far they advance it's AI. I've seen some videos of Japanese culture and I want to find it's more unsavory characteristics (over demanding school system, etc.), does anyone think I'm bad for that?
It's a shame most of the world doesn't have the love of technology present in Japan. Ah well, this is why they'll continue to kick our ass in many areas.
There is a difference between love and lust of technology, right now Japan is more Lust than Love.We can't even take care of our own race and you think bringing robots will be the solution to our daily problems?Over population is a big issue in Asia, bringing more heads to count is not a good idea.+ Old people need humans to take care of them not machines! You will be OLD one day too.Remember the anime Roujin Z?It might be over exaggerated but it holds some truth...they are playing whit fire.
