  • sorry but this is a ameraucana because has a tail feather Araucanas don't

  • Non an araucana sorry, its an ameraucana.

  • Thanks for sharing your video of your chickens - we are going to get some and it helps to decide what kinds to get.

    Yours are beautiful!

  • this is a "Quetro"

is a variety of Chilean Araucana chicken.

  • Lol.

    Aracanas are wierd.

Some of the farmers at my local farmers' market sell Aracana eggs (which can be blue, green, or speckled), and they say that they are crazy little birds.

They're smaller than most chicken breeds (like the broiler), but they are MEAN.

The woman I ussually get my eggs from, says they will chase anything; and that she avoids her Aracana roosters. They've even chased her and scratched her.

I'm told that they have green, hairy feathers on the sides of their faces.

  • This isn't an Araucana, but simply a mutt bird called an Easter Egger that hatcheries sell and claim as Araucanas or Ameraucanas, whom are entirely seperate breeds of chicken.

  • I have one. I just stick my foot out and let him attack all he wants. I like to think of it as training for when real predators are about (free-range) He's constantly fighting off the hawks as well.

  • you have a chicken that attacks your foot?

  • do you dtill have owlface

  • No. He turned mean and I gave him to a friend to do with as she pleased. He would spur you badly and I did not learn how to removed the spurs.

  • did your friend butcher him is he still alive.

  • I did not ask.

  • @spyroterra

    That's the way Araucana's are.

They're not really domesticated, so no matter how they're raised, they grow up to be wild.

I've talked with several farmers at the farmers' market, who raise or have raised Araucuna's, and they all say the same thing; that they're highly-agressive, crazy birds. Both the males and the females.

    They'll even attack DOGS.

They lay delecious green eggs though (somtimes blue, also).

  • He's a beautiful bird, but he really is an Easter Egger "mutt". True Araucanas are rumpless and have ear tufts.

  • Thats partially true.

Show Quality Araucana will be rumpless/tufted....breeder quality araucanas will be either tufted/tailed or clean faced/rumpless

  • My rooster looks just like this. Im sure yours crows much better now. My aracauna is definately my favorate chicken...even if he does screw my 12 hens all day lol

  • They do that! :-) Poor hens...

  • lol at least he protects them. Yesterday a hawk was in the bush and my rooster attacked it! (small hawk of course)

  • that crow is exactly like my rooster's!!!

  • wow

  • at least he crow's better than my roo's xD
