I think the real name of the Nazi super sniper was Hans Thorvald (sp). He was head of the Berlin sniper school. "The Enemy at the Gates" was largely a work of fiction. From what I've read, political officer Danilov wasn't killed, but wounded in the shoulder, too.

@patoo1000 I think you can see the real Vassili Zaitsev in a snippet of what is called "The Battle of Russia (part of the "Why we Fight" series)." He is the first sniper shown in Stalingrad mowing down a Whermacht soldier and then adjusting the bolt on his rifle.
They sure do make it thrilling in that "Why we Fight" series.
I'm a big supporter of the Russians and Zaitsev in World War 2. But if Zaitsev needed two dead allied snipers and possibly the casualties of more to take out one German sniper, then he's nowhere nearly as skilled as the head of the Berlin sniper school.

Lol guys calm down, both Russia and America were vital to the downfall of the Nazis, but it is true that the Russians took out Germany itself, in Stalingrad they fought the Germans all the way back to their homeland and took Berlin. America played a smaller but important role in this which was sending the Soviets supplies and fighting the other German armies. Basically America took down Japan and Russia took down Germany too put it simply without exploring the details.

Or why there is a 1 german killed 10 russians statistic? (included all germans who died in reason of hunger/winter e.g).

Lol guys calm down, both Russia and America were vital to the downfall of the Nazis, but it is true that the Russians took out Germany itself, in Stalingrad they fought the Germans all the way back to their homeland and took Berlin. America played a smaller but important role in this which was sending the Soviets supplies and fighting the other German armies. Basically America took down Japan and Russia took down Germany too put it simply without exploring the details.

@cuznspkerlol A lot of soldiers on both sides were pressured into fighting with the threat of having their families put in prison if they didn`t. both sides had their fanatical side. Both German and Russian shot their own men for not charging into impossible gunfire! Madness. Very sad.
