does anybody know the biological reason for why east-asians have such a non-visible muscle build? I mean, I bet these 2 fighters hit just as hard as some of the top european, american, african etc MT-fighters - but yet asians bodies look always LOOK very skinny/weak - why is that?
Really?! I am DYING to get live Lumpini / Rajadamnern fights!! I wish I could see live fights from Thailand here on Canadian television!!! Maybe there's a website that streams high profile fights? I want this so bad. :(
I understand the attraction of Muay Thai due to it's history and it allowing elbows. But the fact is that K1 is based on updated Muay Thai rules in order to be more spectator friendly and to protect the athletes.
K1 is a compromise to allow fighters of different styles to compete to determine who is the best. JWP was muay thai world champion but couldn't cut it at the top tier of K1.
K1 fighters also show much more highly developed boxing skills.
He started out training in boxing and switched to kickboxing at the ago of 17. Only Masato's knee strikes are pure muay thai.
His kicking technique is mostly karate based, take his roundhouse kick, he throws it straight up rather than arcing it.
Masato never went for a WMC title. He is a kick-boxer and as such has held kickboxing world titles. My point is that Masato has beaten numerous Muay Thai world champions (Menor, JWP, Buakaw).
A lot of fighters that are not Muay-Thai practitioners wear prajead (that's the proper name for "muay thai arm bands"). Notice that Masato doesn't enter the ring wearing a Mongkol (as all thai fighters do).
Take a look at Tsuyoshi Yokoyama, he's a kyokushin fighter and he often wears prajead.
You either didn't read the comment you replied to, or you are blind. Masato's techniques are clearly not muay-thai and his fighting style is nothing like that of a muay-thai practitioner.
Rules in bloodsport are a periodic and cultural reaction to deaths in the ring - I heard UFC has now eliminated all downward elbows and all upward knees - as soon as this happens the fights become beyond realistic - but many would argue this already has happened with Royce Gracie.
and so Muay Thai remains as the most completely authentic fighting art (with rules) and also you will note is one of the most ritualistic - hence the most culturally advanced (in popular culture - many indiginous and retreated societies retain this honour - such as stick fighting - but not as popular).
@Skellyman99 I must admit these ridiculous rules in the UFC are totally moronic. It now makes some fighters at a disadvantage. I can't understand why they do this. Probably to appeal to the average idiot fat slob who watches boxing fights on pay per view.
@RegistrationCop Good comment - but the answer is they do it because big business requires big insurance - and big insurance requires a lessening of death and injury - also it becomes socially targeted. What most people don't realize is that vicarious violence in sports is a social outlet and control rather than an increasing factor of violence. Same could be said of violent movies and cartoons. The real news of real events causes more violence than controlled or fake violence.
K1 is a tournament and muaythai is a fight style so how can you say one is better than da other..K1 has muay thai fighters in it like Buakaw everyone knows that haha
Its because Muay Thai fighters in thailand are alot smaller then fighters in K-1.. Buakaw is huge compare to most thais and has t fight in K-1 moreover, he is not even good technically in Thailand standards.
He IS good by thailand standards.... Just because he never was number one at lumpini doesn't make him bad... he was number 2! that is pretty good for thai standards!
I think you'll find that Buakaw is currently muay thai world champion, was Omnoi Stadium champion and won the Toyota Marathon. He has improved a lot since then but still got KO'd by Sato and was almost KO'd by Dida! (If you've not heard of him he's a mediocre MMA fighter with no stand up background and an MMA record of 6:4:1).
It's not a matter of opinion, as to whether K-1 is better than Muay-Thai, it is fact. Regardless of the differences in rules, K-1 is the top tier, with the finest athletes from various styles.
K-1 brings together Muay-Thai world champions (JWP, Buakaw, Yod), shoot-boxing world champions (Souwer), along with world champion kick-boxers (Masato), and anyone of any other style who can cut it.
If traditional Muay-Thai were better, why would the champions leave to fight in K-1 when given the chance (like Yod did)? Regardless of the different rules, K-1 is better due to having superior athletes.
K-1 rules are in place to ensure that the fights are exciting, and the use of knees and clinching was removed to differentiate it from Muay-Thai. Having rules identical in K-1 would give Muay-Thai fighters an unfair advantage.
You don't hear complaints that Souwer can't use Shooto moves.
I know that they go to K1 for the money, but K1 also is the pinnacle of stand up fighting. Disallowing elbows also makes it fairer for fighters of other styles to compete. The argument that any technique should be allowed is stupid, because where would you draw the line. MMA maybe?
It's a very ignorant and narrow minded view to believe that Muay Thai fighters are superior to all others. Take Yod, he's champion of Thailand and world champion but lost to Souwer.
The culture has nothing to do with how well they fight, on what premise are you basing the guess that I know nothing about fighting? You are the ignorant one who cannot see the merits of other fighters from other styles.
K1 allows fighters of all styles to compete in order to determine who (irrespective of style) is the absolute best. Buakaw is the only pure Muay Thai fighter ever to win. Kraus (kickboxer) has won, Masato (kickboxer/ muay thai) has won and Andy Souwer (shootboxing) has won.
Atleast the guy with Downs's syndrome isnt making stupid & false accusations about K1 fighters. So, in a way, the Down Syndrome guy is allot smarter then you!
O yeah, and english is not my native language so stfu about spelling. It's lame and only shows us that you can't give good counter-arguments....
dude its obvious muay thai is better than K1. its full thai rules elbows and all what does k1 have? everything is modified u cant even clinch and knee anymore u moron. u dont know shit obviously u dont know shit. so shut the fuck up u rookie/
Please dude, stop posting. You are only pwnding youre self.

he fought FTR and wears the prajeads thats what i based it off..
angelidis87 2 years ago
Masato fought thai- rules just to show that he could.
The prajead have no cultural significance with him, he wears them purely out of personal preference.

haha - don't trouble yourself with people who don't know master yoda - there are millions of them.......

What are you basing the guess that Masato claims to be a muay-thai stylist?
Do you speak Japanese? Have you ever listened to him speak and heard him say that he is a thai boxer?
Masato has never claimed to be a thai boxer, because he isn't!
