You might know 10-year-olds that are "technically better" than Ace however, Ace got the gig and had the gig at the right place and at the right time. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that any and all of those 10-year-olds will never amount to much of anything musically. Ace made it in a time when true talent was a must in the music industry. Now, "artists" are created in back rooms, have a limited shelf live and are discarded just as fast as they made it-Ace is STILL around 40 years later

Enter the reunion in 96 and suddenly everyone is on the Ace bandwagon again... until KISS dumped him, AGAIN. There is no questioning his contribution to rock history and the history of KISS... same as you can't question the contributions of say Sid Vicious... but it doesn't make either one of them really all that good... more like lucky.

I'd have to disagree with that one, if you listen to a lot of EVH's solos, first off, they do not include tapping, and second some of them are down right soulful. See songs like Right Now or I'll Wait, both are relatively slower solos, but both are amazing in their own right. EVH is undoubtably one of the greatest guitarists ever. This has nothing to do with comparing to ace, blah blah, EVH can easily stand alone on his own right with his amazing guitarwork

He even said, and I quote him "If I knew I was going to influence so many people I would have practiced more" Read Gene's autobiography. He CERTAINLY influenced a lot of modern guitar heroes, but technically, he's not a "Great" guitar player.

I have tremendous memories of being a kid in the 70's and thinking he was God on the guitar... but even Ace admits, he can't even read music. show me a link to a reputable source that rates him in the top 100... you won't find one, believe me, I checked. The highest I could find him rated was 125.  Again, love him... but the truth is Thayer is even a better player, technically speaking.
