I think that it is a shame that this vehicle never made it to production. This would be a nice vehicle for the twenty something guy who lives in the city but like to go camping or is just very active in general. It offers a boat load of practicality in a relatively small package, for a truck that is. The hybrid powertrain would make it a winner in the gas mileage department. I actually like the styling. It's not trying to compete with a standard truck, but instead be a crossover truck.
That shouldn't even be considered a truck, I'd like to see it pull a huge trailer or a boat. Bottom line imports shouldn't be making trucks. The toughest part about a Toyota is the woman driving it.
I would not spend the money on this. If people want to pretend they are truck owners and buy a hybrid looking piece of crap I'm sure there is a market for it. I do like the interior look though. It's a seat. No it's a frame. No, it's a seat-frame. And the steering wheel looks neat but not very functional.
Hopefully whoever is incharge at toyota will become more practical and redo this concept...looks all chopped up...If thats what they were aiming for, they nailed it!
Unibody. Uni-can- kiss my Aflak!! Give us some style. Stop sleaking everything back and give us the classic look. That's the only thing holding me back from investing in this technology. I don't want to be driving a spaceship, I want a CAR. One that is ,..how do I put this, ...Attractive. One that makes me... um..{words words}... feel happy about owning it, one that isn't packed with digital crap I don't want.
Is it 2x4? 4x4? Not one of the press reviews I've seen even mentons driveline. My vote: A manually switchable 2/4 drive (like my '98 Tacoma had). I don't need f/t, nor do most people. 2WD mode is more efficient.
I think it's cool looking! Very futuristic! But hey, let's not get ahead of ourselves...When or if they do decide to go ahead and manufacture this pickup, it more than likely will not look anything like this and their response will be something like: "We made the ---- based off the Toyota A-BAT p/u concept but made it for more of today's real-world conditions!" In other words: "We made it really boring and so that's why it looks nothing like the concept!"
Agreed, its like 80% of all concepts, they come out gaudy and full of useless trinkets and then get shot down when practicallity pulls ahead of new innovation.
How come all of these cars. Aptera, Volt, Mazda, ..have to look like crap? Couldn't they have said, you know, we want to give the consumer not only technology, but we think they deserve style? Not future shit, but maybe a 50s look or put some chrome in the mix. Besides, what can we haul with such a short-ass box?
I think this truck looks pretty neat, although the direct "front on" view leaves much to be desired in terms of style - the rest is very unique. Maybe its because Im a Gen Y-er, who knows? Now they need to power it with say...a 1.5 - 2.0 litre 4cyl turbo diesel hybrid system and it will be good to go!
its interesting. sure its ugly, but so is the prius and half the scion line, yet they manage to sell, sell, sell. i think toyota may be up to something here, certainly past this concept car.
this thing has exactly the features I want. wish someone would make something like this.

A compact diesel 4WD is needed. Keep the classic lines.

I agree, the front end is disgusting! The remaining 85% is perfect styling. Turbo 4 cylinder sounds perfect! My V8 needs a friend in the driveway...
Stankest 4 years ago
I agree its ugly as hell but it would fill a niche and would be a practical little truck. I like the idea , not the styling.
