@91latinking There are no federal laws banning silencers. However, civilians must have BATFE authorization to buy, sell, own or make silencers. This is routinely given to anyone who is 21 or older, not a felon, and otherwise allowed to own firearms. I have never heard of any ATF form 4’s (to buy, sell) or ATF form 1’s (to make) being rejected by the BATFE as long as they were filled out correctly by a person living in a state that allows civilians to own silencers if you are military its ok

First of all, When you are demonstrating the sound of something. Don't play fricking music. Second, when you are comparing two things. Show us a few shots with one and then the other. Go back and forth. Also it seems like you are not controlling the sound levels, but I'll admit that is hard to do.

You're not able to hear a "silenced" ? ( don't know the good word as English is not my native language ) rifle from 200 meters, in countryside. Silencers are, mostly, used during the night as you can get closer to your target than during the day.

The first one, over a hundred years ago, was called "maxim silencer", but the firearm industry have dropped the name "silencer" ages ago. Why?

Because the sound suppressors do not SILENCE the weapons, they only suppress the sound.

@DarkSigiles not unless the average joe has at least $14k for a MP5 laying around. Seeing how he shooting a Glock 18, he has a Special Occupancy Tax (SOT). Glock 18s didn't make the 1986 machine gun ban cut off. With a SOT he can manufactuer MGs but he can only sell them to law enforcement agencies or other holders of SOTs.

Silencers on the other had are less expensive and easier find, still being made. Just have to do the paperwork etc, send your $200 to the ATF and wait six months.

Suppressors are probably the only thing you're allowed to buy freely in my country. Oddly enough even more relaxed rules than in the US, all you need is a weapons license. But suppressors are mostly used by people on shooting courses are sport shooters.

Yes gun laws vary from state to state. Right now I think 38 states allow citizens to buy suppressors. Some states limit you to one gun a month, how much ammo you can buy. Or like Kalifornia, you might as well give up on owning anything that looks like a military weapon. Glad I left there in '86, go to Calguns.net for more info.

Ah I see, in my country the only weapons you can buy are hunting rifles, shotguns and handguns. You need a weapons license for hunting weapons, and to own a handgun you have to be an active member of a shooting club.

Here in AZ no need for a card. Pass the background ck, walk out the door that day with it. No waiting periods, nothing, the way it should be.

Its roughly $14k for an MP5, but you can pick up a Mac-11/9 for $2.5-3k. Right now its a buyer market here, but who wants go through 4x the ammo to feed it?

I wouldn't want such a system in my country, but on the other hand my country doesn't have a "gun culture" on quite the same level as the US. The overall interest for weapons aren't as high, but to each his own I guess.

Gunshops are privately owned and regulated by the ATF. It is a highly regulated industry.

Of course the atitude about guns varies by State. Here they are part of the landscape. California is another story.

AZ still has open carry with some restriction. And they just past a law you can conceal carry without a permit.

@DarkSigiles Different types of licenses, class I or FFL01 - all types of rifles, handguns, & shotguns( no autos, short-barreled rifles or shotguns, & silencers (they are reserved for class II or FFL02)). FFL03 is a collectors license that private citizens can get for collecting only certain firearms, usually at least 50 years old.

Europe has a different attitude towards guns, but it varys depending on the country.

Most people carry handguns. I've seen an AK carried by a guy on a MC.

Yeh it varies on country, my country has a high number of privately owned weapons, but it's mostly hunting weapons. And we have a very low gun crime rate, but it's on the rise lately in the capital, where gang related crimes are going up.

There are ammo restriction, i.e. armor piercing and what you mentioned. The armor piercing was the reason steel-core 7.62x39 got pulled from the market.

@xplymouth2. for a full auto version you would need a whole ton of papers, permits, alot of money, ect ect... but you can buy a PS90 (the sport version with a long barrel)when your 18, and a short barrel version requires you to be 21.

Silencer on a small caliber pistol is insane though...look up .22 silenced...almost 0 sound. silencers are just made to prevent the sonic cracking(hearable for miles), and make the weapon quieter...attracts less attention i suppose.
