This very accident is why you see so many cautions for what appears to be nothing today. During this race, several drivers had reported oil numerous times during the race, and when NASCAR threw the caution and went to clean up the said oil, there was non there. So, when the drivers reported oil with so few laps, and so few cars on the lead lap NASCAR figured it was just "Crying Wolf." Well, this time it wasn't.NASCAR will no longer take chances of there being debris or oil after this wreck
This very accident is why you see so many Caution's for what appears to be nothing today. During this race, several drivers had reported oil numerous times during the race, and when NASCAR through the caution and went to clean up the said oil, there was non there. So, when the drivers reported oil with so few laps, and so few cars on the lead lap NASCAR figured it was just "Crying Wolf." you all seem to forget the year 2004 where jr. won 6 races including the Daytona 500 and another year Kasey won 6 races...clearly both men know how to get the job done. You don't luck into that kinda success.
Kahne had an amazing season in 2004. Had he won those races he came so close in, gotten better luck, and not gotten the bad end of the deal in this race, he would've made the Chase.
@DavisBrendon29 LOL Kahne is trash I'll give you that much, but I was at this race and if NASCAR had done what they should've done and thrown the caution when Casey Mears blew up, Kahne would've won this race.
@CRod401 Kahnes trash? look at how many wins he has had with trash? all the other cars he has driven yet hes the only one that could win in it....look at rpm Kasey is the only one that has ever one in an RPM car except now marcose ambrose has one at a road coarse Kasey got 5 wins for Rpm
@racingrules22 actually, he only had 2 wins and a Gatorade Duel with RPM and by the way, John Andretti had won with RPM long before Kahne or Ambrose. And it only takes a few glances at his past few years to prove that he is pretty overrated. Silly mistakes in 2010 and 11 and Christ he has been a joke at Red Bull all year. Vickers outperforming him is just icing on the cake.
@CRod401 Um....look at the stats? hes out preforming the chasers! Last 4 races top tens and its been a 2nd 2 4ths and a 6th brian vickers i like him to but no he isn't even close to out preforming kahne. Trust me when he gets to hendricks with good equipment he will kick the shit out of everyone...
@racingrules22 Oh dont worry, I'll be watching Kahne very closely next year. I sure hope he blows every one away once he gets to Hendrick. He deffinitely should.
@CRod401 So your saying he can drive. He is a great driver just hasnt had the best luck. Look at Jr he hasnt won in a while but he isn't a great driver...if you watch Kasey he has shown speed even in not so great cars...Jr has the best and still can't do much.
@racingrules22 Yes he can drive and he is deffinitely better than Jr. but is he great? No, he's ok. I just don't like hearing that Kasey kahne is one of the best drivers in the field when he hasnt won an actual race in over 2 years. He is ok, and I like him, but he is NOT one of the most talented drivers in the field.
Kasey is my favorite driver. It seems Nascar has it in for him though. They always seem to throw bogus cautions whenever he has a big lead... i.e. today. They threw a caution for a fucking plastic water bottle that was off the racing line. I wish Nascar would throw their cautions like F1. F1 only throw a caution for debris when it is on or extremely near the racing line, and or if it's large enough to pose a threat to drivers or fans... Nascar should grow some balls and do the same.
And we all know that Nascar only throw debris cautions to bunch the field up for a chance a huge firey wreck happens, anything for high tv ratings. And if Nascar had a tire provider that didn't suck raw ass how many more wins would Kasey have? 9? 10 more wins? Lowes Motor Speedway would be known as Kasey's house, JJ isn't shit compared to Kasey at that track. Kasey has horrid luck, whether it's poor timing on cautions, tire failures etc etc.
It just bums me out because Kasey is one of the most talented drivers in racing. I wish his luck will turn. He'd be around 6th in points right now had it not been for being taken out numerous times this year in incidents not of his making. I really hope he can make the chase this year.
Kasey Kahne should have won alot of races in 04 but bad luck always got him. But he is still my favorite driver every since 04 and 05 he has been good.
Oil on the track. Come on Nascar. How hard is it to clean up? As if you don't want one of the most talented drivers to win a race. Kahne was the true winner of this race, no matter what the record books say. If the announcers notice oil, the track cleaners can.
@highway955 micheal waltrip, dale jr(i like jr so dont flip), mark martin (im a fan of him too. He dominated so many races in 2004 and 2006 and had horrible luck and many blown tires.
You've got to be kidding, right? The oil wasn't noticed UNTIL he hit the wall. When there is a debris/fluid issue on the track, the DRIVERS are the first ones to notice, even before it can be seen by the naked eye it can be felt in the car, at which point they inform their spotter, who informs the crew chief, who informs NASCAR. All of this happens in less than 10 seconds. In the case of engine failure, sometimes there just isn't enough time. Be realistic...
Is everyone really acting like Helton went out there and kicked out the rear end of Kahne's car? There was oil on the track, and no one noticed. Those things sometimes happen, it was just bad luck for Kasey Kahne. If you want to bitch about how much you hate Helton and nascar, then don't watch. You aren't real fans.
After the big one, I was rooting for Kahne after Ryan was out of contention, so pissed when I saw this. If it weren't for those wrecks caused by others, he probably would broke Tonys record of the most wins in rookie season
I can imagine the convorsation between driver and manager. "No, left, now left.. left again, no left! theres no such thing as right! now look what you did."
Oh sure, bash nascar for not throwing cautions.. now they throw cautions before this happens and everyone calls it a 'stupid caution' and bash nascar again.. pick a side dumbfucks..
He has been my FAVORITE driver since he joined on 04. since the close finish between he and Kenseth at Rockingham, to all those late crashes that werent his fault, to his first win at Richmond, and up till now. He's one of my fav drivers in the modern era. right next to Junior and Johnson! :D
@jayKay098 that was one of the first ones that came to mind when i was writing my comment... i had a bad feeling he was gouuna crash and that it would be a trie issue... its ALWAYS a tire issue (except for this one at Bristol)
Has anyone noticed that ever since NASCAR introduced the COT, cars never really swap ends and back into the wall anymore. You never see cars just lose it all be themselves and back into the wall like they used to.
@nascar9and88 True. There is something to be said about fast cars that are larger, slightly more boxy, and have either big wings or huge blade spoilers. I'd like to see them put a "wicker-bill" package on the COT and bore the restrictor plates out more, giving some mech back to the mechanics and some throttle savvy back to the drivers.
@DraftMasterJohn The more power that it brought back to the driver the better. I personally think they should either shorten or completely remove the "shark fin" that runs down the rear window to the rear deck lid. that would decrease side force as well as making it more driver oriented, where they are constantly fighting the car from spinning out all the time. WIth both the wing and the new spoiler, they are so forgiving that anybody can save them.
i remember this! i was sooooo mad when this happened. i remember sitting in a restaurant in st. petersburg watching it and when he wrecked i was like "WTF!"
at least kasey's won a bunch of races since this. lol
yeah Kasey had this race in the bag but NASCAR doesn't care if there is oil on the track because his name isn't Earnhardt but I guarantee you this, if there was a car blowing up and he was in the lead, the caution would be out the split second it blows.
poor Kasey!! :( if there was oil on the track they should throw a damn caution and clean it up. this is exactly what happens when there is oil on the track and no one cleans it up. someone wrecks!!
@kaseykahnefan2009 Thats the problem. They dont know where the oil is since theres over 20+ cars on the track. They cant just stop the race with cars going up to 190+Plus when its a short track that makes it worse because u can have a pileup.when the accident happens thats when they can identify where the oil is and clean it up.
@nj6pack If Kasey didn't have any bad luck, he would've for sure broken Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson's records of most wins by a driver in their rookie year.
@nj6pack Yeah, I mean, he almost won at the Rock, he had a good Vegas race, he almost won at Texas, he was about to win this race, he got wrecked at Chicagoland, and he almost won at Lowe's in the Chase.
WHY? WHY KAHNE! DAMN YOU NASCAR! My poor baby. Is NASCAR going blinder and blinder each race?! Like 'UltimateEEnEFan" said down there. He is nowhere near a good race yet this season. :p If this happens again, ima kill NASCAR. >:(
Kahne put up with so much. Coming so close to his first win. He deserved this win and I guess NASCAR is always right because they say there was no oil on the track. COME ON! YOU CAN SEE THE OIL ON THE FREAKIN TRACK AND YOU DON'T THROW A CAUTION? BULLCRAP!
its amazing that as many spotters and nascar officials that watch the track, especially such a small one, that nobody saw the oil in time to yellow flag it. Tough break for kasey but he still has a lot of career left to win races
It was nice to see Mark Martin win this race, later on, but NASCAR, sorry guys, but you screwed a talented young man out of a much deserving win. Kasey Kahne was the REAL winner of the MBNA 400- A Salute to Heroes.
@nascarfanatic2425 well WOULDVE if he ran regular and didnt pit but i said COULDVE because another thing might of happened. he still had a 99.9% of winning
@nascarfanatic2425 and now people are complaining about random debris cautions just when jimmie johnson needs the or jr. needs them. agreed, for oil there should be a debris caution, not because one of the golden boys needs it
@43labontepetty Exactly, and when they don't throw a debris caution even when there's clearly debris on the racetrack, they claim that the debris is "far enough out of the way to not be a hazard." I think it's a coincidence that they come out just when J.J. or Jr. need them, but it's still bullshit. I mean, I can understand if sheet metal or a big enough piece of a tire to damage a car is on the racetrack, but it's the ones when they don't show the debris that are bull.
Matt Kenseth was also very unhappy about how NASCAR handled how they throw the caution and how they froze the field. I remember they started freezing the field at around this time in history and NASCAR was doing a shitty job of trying to get everyone lined up under caution so they spend like 15 laps under caution realigning people. I remember Matt saying something like "If I was a fan I would be extremely pissed because I spend my money to watch guys go 40 laps under caution at a time"
I was so mad when this happened, I'll know that Kasey is the true winner of this race.

@iamchazzi Yeah, I was just saying. It's crazy how many coulda-woulda-shouldas Kasey Kahne had in 2004.
nascarfanatic2425 7 months ago
@nascarfanatic2425 and now people are complaining about random debris cautions just when jimmie johnson needs the or jr. needs them. agreed, for oil there should be a debris caution, not because one of the golden boys needs it
43labontepetty 6 months ago
@43labontepetty Exactly, and when they don't throw a debris caution even when there's clearly debris on the racetrack, they claim that the debris is "far enough out of the way to not be a hazard." I think it's a coincidence that they come out just when J.J. or Jr. need them, but it's still bullshit. I mean, I can understand if sheet metal or a big enough piece of a tire to damage a car is on the racetrack, but it's the ones when they don't show the debris that are bull.

The flagman dosnt make the decisions. The officals tell the flagmen to wave the yellow.

poor kasey kahne. he's a good kid though.
matt kenseth's interview was a little less forgiving about nascar's decision for no caution.
I don't remember what happened, but I'll bet you anything nascar didn't admit to a mistake on this one. they don't admit to anything.
