This is from 2004. I have this DVD. Wonderful concert and I watched them live after I thought that they wan't play anymore. Wow, it was amazing. Paul is amazing on his own way in this huge band.
Hey dipshits. Not like you guys trashing Paul can do a DAMN thing about it. LOL! You think Paul cares? NOPE. He is Paul Rodgers, that who is, and that is ALL he can be.
This collaboration is not convincing at all. The song just sounds like Bad Company. Paul has a very different vocal style than Freddie's. Both are among rock music greatest singers but on their own style. And all the bands he served are very different from QUEEN. You could never have Freddie sing for Black Sabbath f.e., could you? Some things just don't work and sound "forced" despite the good intentions...

Freddie was an inspiration to a hell of a lot of new performers But Paul Rodgers is in his own right a fantastic vocalist with a history that speaks for itself.

Even though the real spirit of the song with Freddie isn't here, but Paul does an amazing job here! Really amazing!
And for the people saying he sucks at singing... I would be happy as hell to have a voice like him.
@UncleJeffreySpuds That's great. It's an opinion, and one I tend to share. That being said, you can't replace anyone, ever. Period, end of story. Even when bands got new members, "for the better", they were not the same band, they were something different, and not replacing anyone. This Queen + Paul Rodgers was called exactly that, a tour of queen members wanting to play with a singer that was talented. No replacements attempted. Period, end of story.
Pretty cool to see this collaboration. Funny that folks think Paul Rodgers is supposed to be like a tribute singer and mimic Freddie to a t. I would prefer he stick to the melodies and avoid the bluesy improvs, but that's Paul's style so you kinda have to take it or leave it. And who would rather Queen go into hiding while waiting for a Freddie soundalike who has no history/longevity as a singer/songwriter behind him?
I love Paul Rodgers, loved him with Free and Bad Company. To me he has one of the greatest voices in Rock n Roll ever. That said, i was upset when Brian May and company decided to add him and go on tour as Queen. Ray Manzarak never went on tour with another lead singer and called themselves The Doors.
Could anyone imagine Led Zep on tour with anyone but Plant as the lead singer or the Who with Daltry. I may be wrong but to me this was just a money grabbing play by Brian et al.
When an artist takes on songs by someone who's total opposite, it's easier accepted if the new interpretation adds or finds something inspired, or not apparent to folks before. e.g. Ray Charles' take on Cash's Ring of Fire, Sid Vicious on My Way. Sure it's too much asking Rodgers to turn every Queen song into new masterpieces every time it's digested thru blues, but that little spark of surprising perspective may be deal breaker. Props to him for walking into the minefield and doing his best tho
The issue is Freddie was far from "authentic" blues like Jagger/Rodgers. When he tackled it, he appropriated them to his advantage via burlesque (See what a fool) or high drama (It's Late). '92 Tribute worked due to WIDE range of vocal styles. Rodgers is a Great but it's a consistent blues-ONLY take on Q songs (some work, some don't cos Q's diverse.) If you have "wide" taste/love meat-potato blues, it's up your alley. Else it takes big leap of faith to reimagine Q songs as they were v far from.
Love the way he sings the verses, nice and bluesy.
The only thing that annoys me about guys who play Queen stuff these days including Spike Edney is none of them use a real piano. I don't care how good a keyboard you have you can't beat the sound of an acoustic piano. Fair enough if you're a small tribute band but on a tour like this they could easily afford a piano on stage that could be taken on tour.
@dave17186 its just his prefference ... he may like the feel or sound ... but i agree with you ... i have an acoustic piano that survived a fire ... i also have a keyboard for small shows and when i cant get help transporting my piano but the keyboard wouldnt survive a fire ... nor would it sound better due to it ... the wood in the piano is dry and could produce a very clear sound but sadly the strings are covered in soot and could use new strings or a good cleaning
Queen fans who find fault with Paul Rodgers (who was HUGE before anyone even heard of Freddie), do not have a true understanding of music and therefore their opinions r not worth commenting on. Paul Rodgers can be proud of these efforts and so can Queen by making the choice to ask Paul to sing with them. All Hail Paul 'The King' Rodgers and Queen. Amen
He could probably hit all the high notes if he wanted to. He's a great singer! Why does he wuss out on the chorus? They hire him and he won't even sing the chorus? Glad I didn't spend my money to buy the DVD. He's one of the most talented rock singers ever, but I'm not gonna pay to watch him stand there and only sing half of the song.
@tommym202 music is not competition like running on 100 meters...he has his unique interpretation of this song witch is great! Also a great thing is that P.R. is not copying Freddie's style.
@dave17186 Bottom line: Oueen is a great band and Paul Rodgers is a great singer, but I won't buy the DVD because he sounds like he's not really into singing the songs.
why are the guards even there? I don't even see ppl moving a inch from where they are standing through the whole song, they are just singing and following the song(s)..... the guards can go home if they want, or enjoy the music
the whole paul/freddie debate.. let me put my opinion in. I was a huge queen fan for years, went to the fan club conventions (hello to anyone else who was there ! ) , collected memoribilia, knew the words to every song inside out. Yet, like others like me, i havent followed queen since the mid or late nineties.
Its not that paul is a bad singer or a good one.. its just that the band isnt
interesting any more. My choice, like others, would have been GM... he could truely recreate the songs.
Freddie è assolutamente unico, però devo dire che anche questa versione mi piace moltissimo, Paul Rodgers l'ha cantata ha modo suo e ha fatto una splendida esecuzione.
I don't see that any of these guys did anything wrong. In fact, I think all of them are honoring Freddie in a way that would make Freddie really happy. Paul presents these songs in his own way, and his voice is powerful enough to sing them. His decades of experience don't hurt either. I imagine that every single person there is holding Freddie in their hearts during this performance, and that includes Paul. Nobody is trying to forget him or replace him. Quite the opposite.
@TheClassica87 Exactly; quite a celebration of amazing music from both Queen's catalogue; together with Free and Bad Company; honouring not only the amazing Freddie but the late Free guitarist Paul Kossoff :) truly inspirational guitarist.
@TheSummerwine20 That'd be a great, though fan service oriented, point if it weren't for the fact that I wasn't arguing that or saying you are wrong in that statement in the slightest.
@MinivarKnight THANK YOU. finally someone who found the complete right words to express what i think about all the stupid comments hating on paul. thank you.
@MinivarKnight very true mate, i was at the nec concert were they were playing and i tell you this the music was bang on and sounded fantastic, and if queen tour again i will go again, it sthe music i loved and the band and we all have freddy in our hearts when we were at the concert because at times it was bringing tears to my eyes but tears of joy for Queen and i take my hat off to them for playing the way they did. I Take my hat off to them . they are The Champions
I remember the night of 100 guitars at Wembley when the last 40mmins was Paul Rodgers singing with a who's who of top guitarists including BM - they were just queuing up to play with him. He is a great singer not just cos he has a great voice but because he uses it as part of an ensemble. That's why the Queen boys are loving this so much - and that makes the show.
It's good to see that Paul Rodgers do his own voices and skills. Much better than he would "copy Freddy". No one can do it better than him but Paul: It was a great show!!!
if you think thats not wotrthy, do ya self a favor and stick to the drum n bass, cos wot part of that you can complain about i dont know pure rock n roll,
@murdock6107 Here here, amazing vocalist, even Freddie was a fan :) Yes Freddie is irreplaceable but Paul isn't trying to pretend to be Freddie because he is a true professional, in the same way Brian and Roger don't just copy the style of Free when doing Free songs. Unique touch from both parties :) This is brilliant ,music and well, when I went to this gig, it was really quite breathtaking to be right at the front watching legends perform some of the best rock ever, if not the best :)
Simply put.... Amazing is what this elder rock group is, especially by their choice of Paul Rogers to now front them on stage, and this in order to give their fans of this type of music, a great musical experience exactly like this just was for me, as was watched by me with both ears peeled back and wide open.
Comment succeder a une telle icone? la réponse est sous nos yeux, Paul la chante simplement avec le coeur et les tripes comme aucun ne sait le faire! Queen renaît et cela passera par une entente avec Paul!
The queen no longer exists because the majesty sleeps in peace.
Freddie and irreplaceable.
The music of the queen and not suitable for the voice of Paul it changes the whole interpretation that Freddie gave the music
he does not sing or even 1% ... 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 that Freddie sang
@MegaDjsilva Ah come on! Everyone knows that Freddie can't be replaced. Him and Paul have such different styles. Just imagine Freddie singing in Bad Company, it would have been good but not like Paul. Paul is a blues singer and fans are glad they can see Queen again. To say that Paul doesn't sing 1% of Freddie is pretty damn idiotic. Just because you like someone, doesn't mean that everyoneesle sucks.
@matzchase I agree, some people don't seem to understand singing styles, Paul is a true professional and rock legend whom has been in numerous groups with some of the best rock stars in the world, Free with Paul Kossoff, Bad Company with Mick Ralphs and Boz Burrell, with Jimmy Page in The Firm and here with May and Taylor, Paul is no idiot. One of the best and the probably the best male vocalist whom can even step up to the plate of singing Queen songs. I'm sure Freddie would be loving this!!!
I'm sorry but Freddie Mercury WAS Queen. Queen went to the grave with Freddie. He named the band, he invented their glitter-rock persona and aura, he disigned the clothes, the artwork, the makeup and the flamboyance and the Queen sound. Freddie gave Queen it's Royal Highness essence. These other guys are just cashing in on Freddie's legacy. This tour should of been called : Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers: A TRIBUTE TO FREDDIE MERCURY
@alcatras4 now just because pr sucks and may/taylor want to cash in on the legacy doesn't mean that the latter didn't contribute to that legacy. You just need to take a look at who wrote what songs ;)
@satanaonline The whole point is that Paul Rodgers isn't trying to be Freddie, Paul is amazing and in fact Freddie was a massive fan of Paul's, Paul re interprets the song in his own way and performs them so, It's just the same that Brian May isn't trying to be Paul Kossoff. Freddie is irreplaceable but no one is pretending to be him. No imitation act. And by the way, Robbie Williams can't sing and tried to copy Freddie, with a subsequent epic failed attempt. Talentless Williams is nowhere FM.
@satanaonline Fair enough, but we're never gonna get the chance to see the original Queen line up again which were obviously unmatched, but there is nothing wrong with this performance, the music is being kept alive :)
@mercuryforeva Are you saying music dies out the moment musicians stop playing it? I appreciate your opinion about them doing the two world tours (and an album!?) so that youngsters can hear about Queen and not get sucked into this awful music that we have today, but I'm just gonna stick with Deacon on this one.
@satanaonline I'm not saying that exactly, i'm saying that it's better if it is played if the opportunity is there than not to play it at all, because yes, i agree that it enables younger generations to realise that talent was once the pre eminent characteristic of being a successful musician, whereas nowadays the over commercialisation has prevented raw takent from coming through. Overall this music is excellent and I say that with confidence.
But he immitates, that carries not much talent, and besides it's not the same because true talented artists can utilize their influences and create their own style which is memorable, for example Freddie with Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard etc and Paul with Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Buddy Guy. Hence Queen+Paul Rodgers.
@VicRattlehead79Fair enough, I just think there are better artists for the job, not someone who is just alright, Queen couldn't have done any better than bringing in Paul I reckon, whereas I seem to sense Arnel as not very unique and I wish he would of brought his own style to the table. If however, Arnel is the only guy for the job that Schon and co. can find, then i'd rather the music be kept alive than to be left in the dark.

Hence Queen+Paul Rodgers.
There a few let alone any rock vocalists nowadays that have sufficient talent to sing Queen songs let alone sing them in their own style. Paul is outstanding. He didn't stand in Freddies shoes! It is quite clear to true Queen fans and rock fans that it is quite the opposite. He merely allows the music to stay alive and remain fresh. There is no immitation here like Arnel Pineda of Steve Perry! Who better to sing Queen songs than Paul? of whom probably has the most capable rock voice today at 60!

why are the guards even there? I don't even see ppl moving a inch from where they are standing through the whole song, they are just singing and following the song(s)..... the guards can go home if they want, or enjoy the music

Why wouldn't you want to go and this group? Paul Rodgers singing Queen songs? Come on. It doesn't get much better.

the whole paul/freddie debate.. let me put my opinion in.

TheClassica87 11 months ago 17
@TheClassica87 Exactly; quite a celebration of amazing music from both Queen's catalogue; together with Free and Bad Company; honouring not only the amazing Freddie but the late Free guitarist Paul Kossoff :) truly inspirational guitarist.
mercuryforeva 11 months ago 3
For all you people who whine about Paul not being Freddie;
1.) Paul is singing WITH queen, not singing FOR Freddie Murcury (as it's not possible)
2.) Most of you act like Paul Rodgers is not a good singer. He's both an excellent singer and performer, look him up on this site yourself
3.) Freddie Mercury liked Paul
4.) If you cannot separate true musical talent from what a band produces, then you need to learn the difference.
Ex ; I hate Kelly Clarkson's music, but she's an amazing vocalist.

Paul Rogers Is A True Rock Legend & Icon, from his humble beginnings with"the Free"
to "Bad Company", and with Jimmy Page as "the Firm" to his solo records.
(His Jimmy Hendrix Tribute LP.tour Was outstanding if anyone else seen it then).
My Hat is pff to Paul and his career.
murdock6107 1 year ago 2
@murdock6107 Here here, amazing vocalist, even Freddie was a fan :) Yes Freddie is irreplaceable but Paul isn't trying to pretend to be Freddie because he is a true professional, in the same way Brian and Roger don't just copy the style of Free when doing Free songs. Unique touch from both parties :) This is brilliant ,music and well, when I went to this gig, it was really quite breathtaking to be right at the front watching legends perform some of the best rock ever, if not the best :)
mercuryforeva 1 year ago 2
I'm going to be straight forward. Paul Rodgers is THE FUCKING MAN!
WhoblehwahV2 1 year ago
Simply put.... Amazing is what this elder rock group is, especially by their choice of Paul Rogers to now front them on stage, and this in order to give their fans of this type of music, a great musical experience exactly like this just was for me, as was watched by me with both ears peeled back and wide open.

The queen no longer exists because the majesty sleeps in peace.
Freddie and irreplaceable.
The music of the queen and not suitable for the voice of Paul it changes the whole interpretation that Freddie gave the music
he does not sing or even 1% ... 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 that Freddie sang
MegaDjsilva 1 year ago
@MegaDjsilva Ah come on! Everyone knows that Freddie can't be replaced. Him and Paul have such different styles. Just imagine Freddie singing in Bad Company, it would have been good but not like Paul. Paul is a blues singer and fans are glad they can see Queen again. To say that Paul doesn't sing 1% of Freddie is pretty damn idiotic. Just because you like someone, doesn't mean that everyoneesle sucks.
matzchase 1 year ago
@matzchase Who knows the Queen knows that Freddie is irreplaceable.
He has not received the title of best vocal of all time in vão.Qual is the story of Paul? A guy who changed his band several times.
He sings much never substituting Freddie
MegaDjsilva 1 year ago
@matzchase I agree, some people don't seem to understand singing styles, Paul is a true professional and rock legend whom has been in numerous groups with some of the best rock stars in the world, Free with Paul Kossoff, Bad Company with Mick Ralphs and Boz Burrell, with Jimmy Page in The Firm and here with May and Taylor, Paul is no idiot. One of the best and the probably the best male vocalist whom can even step up to the plate of singing Queen songs. I'm sure Freddie would be loving this!!!
mercuryforeva 1 year ago
@MegaDjsilva I agree. He can't sing Queen stuff
satanaonline 1 year ago
I'm sorry but Freddie Mercury WAS Queen. Queen went to the grave with Freddie. He named the band, he invented their glitter-rock persona and aura, he disigned the clothes, the artwork, the makeup and the flamboyance and the Queen sound. Freddie gave Queen it's Royal Highness essence. These other guys are just cashing in on Freddie's legacy. This tour should of been called : Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers: A TRIBUTE TO FREDDIE MERCURY
alcatras4 1 year ago
@alcatras4 so your saying everyone should forget Queen?
Cyndonia 1 year ago
@alcatras4 now just because pr sucks and may/taylor want to cash in on the legacy doesn't mean that the latter didn't contribute to that legacy. You just need to take a look at who wrote what songs ;)
satanaonline 1 year ago
@satanaonline The whole point is that Paul Rodgers isn't trying to be Freddie, Paul is amazing and in fact Freddie was a massive fan of Paul's, Paul re interprets the song in his own way and performs them so, It's just the same that Brian May isn't trying to be Paul Kossoff. Freddie is irreplaceable but no one is pretending to be him. No imitation act. And by the way, Robbie Williams can't sing and tried to copy Freddie, with a subsequent epic failed attempt. Talentless Williams is nowhere FM.
mercuryforeva 1 year ago
@mercuryforeva right, well i guess then it just has something to do with me being a purist. This is just my opinion.
satanaonline 1 year ago
@satanaonline Fair enough, but we're never gonna get the chance to see the original Queen line up again which were obviously unmatched, but there is nothing wrong with this performance, the music is being kept alive :)
mercuryforeva 1 year ago
@mercuryforeva Are you saying music dies out the moment musicians stop playing it? I appreciate your opinion about them doing the two world tours (and an album!?) so that youngsters can hear about Queen and not get sucked into this awful music that we have today, but I'm just gonna stick with Deacon on this one.
satanaonline 1 year ago

Hence Queen+Paul Rodgers.
mercuryforeva 1 year ago
@mercuryforeva
Yeah, true he does, but in my opinion it's still alright.
VicRattlehead79 1 year ago
@VicRattlehead79Fair enough, I just think there are better artists for the job, not someone who is just alright, Queen couldn't have done any better than bringing in Paul I reckon, whereas I seem to sense Arnel as not very unique and I wish he would of brought his own style to the table. If however, Arnel is the only guy for the job that Schon and co. can find, then i'd rather the music be kept alive than to be left in the dark.

@mercuryforeva
Yeah, I agree.... I really like when artists put in their own feeling and yet sounds very good.
