  • Happy Birthday Sir Freddie!

  • To answer you're question, this is the same version that is at the end of Mother Love. This version got transposed so the pitch is higher which makes everything kind of sound weird.

  • Question Dave, in the end of "Mother Love", I hear this same song with Freddie singing but it sounds a lot different than this version, did he ever release that version?

  • nice cover makes me cry

  • RIP FREDDIE ♥

    RIP DUSTY ♥

  • I really adore this song!!! When I listen to it I just forget everythig around me & just listen to it like its my last time. Its beautiful, just like Freddie...RIP Freddie, We all love you!!!! P.S How are you doing in heaven Freddie??? Its been a long time since you've been on earth with us.... <(^.^<) ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • Wasnt he called farrokh bulsara?

  • @bassie52 Yes, he was Farrokh Bulsara, but one of his ficticious nicknames before was Larry Lurex.

  • @JoshuaovfitzyI If you're a man who used to have sex with "countless boyfriends", who loved to dress as a drag, who lived amongst gay men, whose personal assistant was gay, and so on... and you have slept with 3 or 4 girls, it makes you a gay man who had sex with a few girls, not a bisexual... but let's not turn his into a debate, I don't really care to know if he was 100% gay or 95 % gay...

  • Totally Awesome viewing this day of Aug 5, 2011.. Thank YOU

He was a star, that we can hold onto through his music, his pizazzs, his courage, his promise of a better tomorrow*

  • @Joshuaovfitzy

It was actually a german actress called Barbara Valentin... not even sure that they had a "real" relationship. Still it doesn't change the fact that Freddie Mercury was gay. But if you need to believe that he was bisexual, fair enough.

  • @Joshuaovfitzy Let's just say he was Freddie Mercury! ;)

  • man of a thousand voices:)

  • This song makes me cry!! & 2:08 Freddie is so handsome -3 though he's gay:(

  • @MsOzarka1 he was bisexual

  • @AndyFurnival80

No, he was gay. Both emotionally and physically. He had a few girlfriends before "coming out", but that's it.

  • @AndyFurnival80 bi not gay! Though I wish 1.) He wasn't 2.) I was alive in the 1970s

  • @sakrotan111 no

  • The first song from Queen! sing by BBC , is that right?

  • wow those distinctive teeth are showing all the way through, was only the last photo that shows that he could actually close his lips over his teethe

  • You are so missed Freddie. Rest well my friend.

  • Freddie makes every thing so sweet (crying)

  • 1:35 is that john lennon on the left :)

  • A really great montage of early pics in the life of one of the greatest musical performers of all time! There will never be another Freddie Mercury! And for a short time, we were lucky enough that he walked among us and shared his beautiful gift.

  • ey up :) on behalf of every rock fan in the world (especially west yorkshire lol) thankyou freddie for showing us how to rock, you truly were heaven sent, the candle that burns twice as bright burns twice as quick, youchanged the world and remained so humble, freddie mercury- god of rock, loverl of live, singer of songs

  • very exciting to hear them in early days. if they were at motown or something the execs would've broken them up & tried to make fred into an idol. thank god that never happened:P

  • This is the best version...wonderful Freddie!!!

  • as close to a heavenly voice without having to die to hear it...

  • I love you Freddie forever.

  • freddie you are a star in heaven, god bless u.

  • gracias dave!

  • David, I think you can help me... Why are there two different versions by freddie mercury and are in different tones

    Thanks!

  • @dangerosa01 i think the other versions up on YouTube have been slowed down.

  • hypnotic

  • This is the first time I've heard this, it made me cry, and these pictures just make it all the more lovely

  • Phil Collins version is more original to the Carole King'orignal song. But Freddie Mercury had an amazing voice, he made it perfect.

  • I love you Freddie! You're music will never die.

  • I found it .Dusty Springfield.

  • Phil Collins copied his song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bmc75cnx190

    This is also a cover...

  • Really? Who was the initial author of the song ?

  • @bmc75cnx190 Gerry Goffin & Carole King composed the song Goin Back

  • @bmc75cnx190 And Freddie copied it from someone else too...it was covered by a bunch of people.

  • FREDDIE MERCURY is still alive in all of us !!!!

  • Happy Birthday Freddie.... not a day goes by that I don't think of you.....absolutely the best singer of all time!!! Love you forever.

  • I think I’m going back

To the things I learnt so well in my youth

    I think I’m returning to

Those days when I was young enough to know the truth...

yes, Freddie ....i think that it's true...

    i wish you a wonderful Birthday...my master

  • I love your video and the pictures

  • Thanks DaveRFuller - I could watch this over and over again. Great photos of a very very special person, and the voice, makes you melt.

  • @FREDDIEMANIAC and freddie was a great composer

  • @Bennyclay661....He certainly was! Freddie was the best, ever!!

Btw, did you know that while a normal song has 3 chords, Bohemian Rhapsody has SIXTY CHORDS?! So, yes, Freddie was quite a composer!

  • incrdible how much I love him!

SUCH CUTE PICTURES BY THE WAY!!!!!!!

  • Dave: you have the best Freddie & Queen videos, hands down. Thank you so much for sharing every one of them!

  • Never heard that song before, only from the Mother Love ending. Voice wasn't as strong as later but you can already hear that things that made him very characteristic... Beautiful song.

  • phil collins like freddie but his version of this song is really bad

  • This has to be one of the most awesome songs I ever heard.

  • Artistically matched! Thanks Dave!

  • @1:20 Look that little face, please... Right there on the podium like saying to himself: "Me in a second place? Never, never again!!!!!" And yeah, he's still in the first place, because he's still the best. God bless his beautiful soul again, again and again. You know, I bet he is in paradise gamboling in a pool of pure bliss, having fun. If he is not there, then is not paradise at all.

  • This song appears in an album called "In Nuce", but there the voice of Freddie is much lower, does anybody know why?

  • Fuck, I love this song.

  • i really love this song!

    freddie = rock's GOD!!

a legend... i miss you freddie

  • He didn't know he was going to be the God of Rock when he grows up.

  • ofcourse he didnt know hw was gonna be king of rock, but anyway why do we call this larry lurex?? i know for a fact this is freddie singing this song only he can like this, was larry lurex the name of his old band or something?

  • Larry Lurex?? Am i missing something here? I saw a documentary about Freddie and he`s mother said he`s birthname was Farrokh Bulsara

  • you see documentarys and you still a stupit, larry laurex was the name of the band freddie help singing and playing piano for them, DUH

  • You call people " stupit "..then give them incorrect info..Larry Lurex was not a band, it was a name Freddie made up when he was asked to make a couple of demos...

( this one..a cover of Dusty Springfield's song..and also a cover of The Beach Boys,

I Can Hear Music ). Larry Lurex was Freddie's word play on the name..Gary Glitter.

    DUH Stupit !

  • Farrokh Bulsara is the name he was born with, Larry Lurex was one of his stage names, before he became Freddie Mercury

  • Wrong, see my comment to kingb212212.

  • His name was Farrokh Bulsara.

Larry Lurex is just the name of the artist in this single. Some producer heard Freddie singing and asked him to do a single and he named the artist "Larry Lurex", Freddie also suggested Brian and Roger for guitar and drums.

  • from colombia...

i was born hear his music...

and he will live forever, and in a long future he will be named with beethoven mozart and tchaikovsky, his music will be classic...

  • You just said what I was trying to find the words to say, but couldn't manage. Bravo.

  • Freddie..I miss you

  • Ah Freddie! You are so missed!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does he really say "Those days when I was young enough to know the truth"? I alwas thought it's "when I was young enough to love the truth". That would make it even more melancholic. Nevertheless: great song!!!

...ci mancherai per sempre, ma non morirai mai!

    Leggenda!

  • A very deep ..meaningful lyrics..love this song..miss u Fred

  • what do you think he is talking about? i can lett it is deep but not 100% clear about what the song means.

  • To

BiggerL....In this song, Freddie is reminiscing about childhood....the things he loved so well, in his youth.....sharing his toys, watching his sailboat glide...etc...."Let everyone debate the true reality, I'd rather see the world the way it used to be....a little bit of freedom is all we lack....so catch me if you can, I'm going back." Not written by Freddie, but song SO WELL by him!

  • i love this song...it's so beautiful and the voice of Freddie sounds so cute ...i love him!

  • it would of been cool if Dusty Springfield did a duo with Freddie on this song

  • This has been a great find for me, being both a Dusty and Freddie/Queen fan. Both sadly missed. Both gave sooo much and suffered pain towards the end, but WHAT legacies. Ty both xxx.

  • 1:43 and 2:19 hahahha, lovely, such a pretty boy,-;))) he was allways a generous person with a deep soul.

  • Beautiful!

  • Hey!this video is so beautiful!!!!!5 stars!!

  • Freddie's voice is so pure and young. It got deeper and stronger as he got older. I love his young high voice: ]

  • Sí... Estoy de acuerdo con todo lo que dices... Yo estoy casi llorando... Freddie, nobody like you. Beautiful song made for the most beautiful voice.

    Then everyone debates

    The true reality

    I'd rather see the world

The way it used to be

A little bit of freedom's all we lack

So catch me if you can

I'm going back <-I love this part.

    kikyou\

  • Very clean and high voice in that moment. Actually he wasn't very young when he recorded this song (he was 26) but it's true that his voice changed all over the years. He smoked a lot!

Great Farrookh! (not Freddie yet at that time)

  • k decir, no hay palabras para semejante voz, talento, duende... seguiran pasando decadas pero tu seguiras robandonos el corazon.

    Freddie Mercury The BOSS!!

  • when was Freddie called "Larry Lurex" and why? :S

  • It's just a name he used when he recorded.

Same as Freddie Mercury, in a way. :3

Because at this time, he was still known as Farrokh Bulsara, I believe.

  • It was meant as a kind of Gary Glitter-persiflage.

  • La voz de Freddie era joven en esos momentos, es sublime.

  • Carole King did arrangements, sort of adding pazzaz whereas her husband, Goffin, actually wrote the lyrics and songs. Goffin sort of cut up the parts of a salad and Carole King sort of tossed it. lol

  • Yaaaa, the end of Mother love ! I didn't know this song.. So beautiful.

  • Great song. One of the best perfomances of Freddie
