I am apparently one of few who hates this movie. For one main reason: the kid was an obnoxious brat who deserves to get smacked around a bit. I felt, watching this, that I was meant to feel sorry for this kid and in not feeling that way it starts feeling like the movie is telling me I am wrong. So, ultimately, I felt like I was in a state of perpetual argument with the movie. My husband had me watch it so he could discuss it with me, turns out we felt the same way. At least I am not alone.
@rylraven13 I think it's not a matter or feeling sorry or sympathetic about the kid. The movie is more about how the kid deals with his own emotions, being them reasonable or not.
After watching this movie, I fell asleep and had a dream about this. I tried to get to the beach to see K.W. before I returned home to go to Holly Tyler and Vince's Wedding (the people from what I like about you) It was weird. For some weird reason, i woke up in the middle of the night crying. WEIRD!!!!!
I would have loved it if the kid got a good hard slap when he got home. That little bastard! The whole way through the film all I could think was what a little brat he was.
Yeah right, and all the grownups in the world breeding, creating war, hurting each other, committing crime, having kids that they beat and mistreat so they will grow up and do the same thing to their kids. Who really needs a slap?
I thought the movie was very disappointing. I was a big fan of the books as a kid and this just didn't live up to that. There was nothing to the movie. It kind of dragged along. It looked great but there was no plot. Max ran away, sailed to the island, spent a couple days with the wild things playing, then went home, The End. The whole time it left me waiting for something to happen.
@sakecity7 Isn't that the whole idea of being a kid? Sometimes you just don't get the answers like you're supposed to, and this movie portrayed it perfectly.
This is an excellent review. I saw the movie last night and whole-heartedly agree with your views. I loved the movie too and thought it elicited emotions and touched on issues I remember feeling as a kid. Yet, even in my adult life, I know the wild things are still alive inside me, I just know how to hide and handle them a little better. Good luck on the radio tomorrow.
lol, can't wait to see you discuss this one on the young turks because you really seem to like it and they seem to not like it as much
and i just saw this to day most of it anyway and i think i fall somewhere in the middle i liked but didn't love it, it was funny but i might have to re-watch it to get all the critical emotional and subtle nuances of the film
