@Jpign137 No DVD's, but I sell downloads that you can put on your phone and ipod. Check out the website. And YES!!! Play to a metronome as often as you can!
@DrummerEtc My phone sucks! and i am against apple at the moment lol Would you be willing to make a DVD w/ a compilation of your works? I really enjoy the way you teach and explain things. I'd be willing to negotiate with prices if you were interested in the idea. let me know
@CejkaH Magic...lol...seriously though, it's just alot of trial and error on the tuning part. If you can define "chunky" a little better I might be able to help ya.
Love the way you teach, bro! Is it hard to throw up an overlay of the notes? It's not needed for this groove, but others are complicated enough where it would help.
@miketwo345 So glad you enjoy the lessons! The You Tube lessons don't come with sheet music or the groove written out. All of the video downloads on my website come with a PDF of the sheet music. When you subscribe to the live lessons you'll also get sheet music for every lesson. I just don't have enough time to write sheet music for all of the YouTube lessons as well. Sorry!
@Poy687 I'm so glad the lessons help you that much! The compliments mean the world. If you'd ever like to jump in on the live lessons to augment the lessons you're already taking, I'd love to have you in there!
What are your opinions on linear drumming vs. ostinato drumming ? Linear grooves are clear-cut, uncluttered, sound hip (and are), but independence-wise it doesn't seem they offer as much of a challenge as crazy ethnic grooves (south american beats, or stuff like bikutsi) ?
The grumpy in me whispers to my ears that's they're mostly for fast pyrotechnics, and angular contemporary styles. Are there a lot of benefits to work on them a lot, as opposed to ethnic superdense and vertically busy beats ?
@tobilius In a well balanced drumming "diet", you'll need to focus on both. There are alot of linear aspects to world grooves. And really, an ostinato is a repeated set of notes...so in that sense, a linear pattern is a form of an ostinato. You'll find that working on your linear playing will help your world grooves and working on your ostinatos helps your linear timekeeping. So my answer...both!
@brennaldo101 That makes my day to hear you say so. I'm glad they're helping so much. We broke this apart for over an hour in the live lessons and learned a TON of ways to add simple variations to the pattern to enhance its "hipness" factor, lol.
Well taught man. Linear grooves are one of my favorites to play and I just don't do it enough. Thanks for bringing em to the front of my mind...cheers
@FeedeeDrummer Ha, it's a drum lesson. That's what happens...talking and playing. If you want more playing, check out some drum covers. I play a TON in the live lessons, but I'd rather give a concise and clear explanation and then leave the majority of the playing to you. I know I can play the groove, lol. And yes, play drums and be happy ;^)
@TaffyRaphie Thanks so much...glad it helps! And yea, after getting to play this groove all day in the live lessons, I think it's pretty sweet myself!
Can you do a lesson on advanced linear grooves?
I'd really like to see what sort of embellishments you throw in over a songo groove. : )))
