  • The history is in Rabijiboni by Prabhatkumar Mukhopadhyay.

  • The history is in Rabijiboni by Prabhatkumar Mukhopadhyay

  • @eesharc: it's an esraj...not really a sarod :)

  • Shahana voice literally forces one to close eyes, forget everything and immerse in melody and tempo.

  • There is something exceptional about you Shahana. You are gifted. Profusely gifted.

  • @craftsjames Esraj

  • @craftsjames sarod i guess

  • @eesharc it's an esraj...not really a sarod :)

  • I tought this song was more fast..the original version..why these people make rabindrasangeet so slow....

  • The above comment is not at all true. The real story was narrated by Sri Charu Chandra Bandopadhyay ,the famous tagore researcher, We should not cook story like this

  • @SubitC

Could you tell me the name of the book by the historian where he has discussed the story? I'm a great Tagore enthusiast, and would love to read about it. Thanks.

  • awesome voice

  • SAHANA DI, please aro gaan upload karo. i feel proud of you. these songs remind me about our old days in patha bhavan and santiniketan. I am flng nostalgic

  • asadharan sahana di. simply awesome

  • aparajito

    rabi thakur shunle khushi haten

  • She is just a genius; as if hearing from GOD's voice!

  • i love all shahana's music

  • This song was written by Gurudeb after the death of his son Shami. When he was returning to Calcutta by train, he suddenly looked and found the world drenched with moonlight outside the window. And it was that time when he realised that t nothing had actually changed. His son remains with him exactly the way he has been all these while. "ki jani shey ashbe kobe".........has been referred to his son and not to a "she" as mentioned by zmalim1.

  • @amitghoshdastidar Please, where can I find the translation of this song in English?

  • @amitghoshdastidar you are right sir. Yes. that was the case actually, Shamindranath Thakur composed one song as well when he was just 8 years old.

  • @amitghoshdastidar

Thanks for providing the background behind this song. Having known this, I can now truly appreciate the sensitivity of the song. The lyrics are touching and the rendition is beautiful. Also the Esraj compliments this masterpiece from Gurudev Tagore

    Victor.

  • @amitghoshdastidar I am glad to stand corrected.

  • everyone i played this song to completely disagreed with my earlier comments on the contrast between the esraj and the voice...

heard the song a few more times and, er (looking sheepish here), happily changed my mind....

great job guys! keep it up.... :-))

  • This moonlit night they all went to the forest.

This heady air of spring has sent them.

I won't go. I will not go now that I am lying down inside my room

In this empty house. In this empty house in my corner,

and not in the heady air of spring.

This house of mine with every care I must wash and wipe it everywhere.

I must stay awake for who knows when if ever she will come, if she ever does.

If she ever does, in this heady air of spring.

  • onek din bade ganta sunlam. khub bhalo lagchhe. thank you for uploading...

  • wah wah - kya baat hae - onek shundor hoeche

  • Wonderfully sung is she from east bengal good singer wish her the best.Should have a appropriate video

  • Wish you all the best....wish Arnob and Sahana make a new song.. (If you all feel down just chant ..ko.. cha ..ko..cha...)

you need some stupid jokes after a deep song don't you..take care and do your best always!!

  • beautifully sung

  • I think thats the point though. the song is awesome and doesn't need changing. if it ain't broke why fix it? I like the "understated" voice, anything else would ruin the delicacy of this piece.

  • @juggyjuggyjuggy thanks Midath! ;-)

  • I think the voice being "understated" is the point. The song is awesome and complete. no need to change something that isn't broke. I like the voice because its not over the top.

  • @tiburi12: This was played by Budhhadeb Das, Shayan's Esraj teacher in Patha Bhavana!

  • @hotibee Thanks for the info. Should have guessed it was Buddhadeb- babu. I am a big fan of his playing and am delighted to see him participating in non-traditional arrangements...This is exactly what is needed!

  • @09dedalus I think so too. It was lovely working with him.

  • Esraj: Budhhadeb Das (Santiniketan).

    Music Arrangement: Shayan Chowdhury Arnob.

  • I actually didn't mean to compare the esraj and the voice in quite those terms.

But the esraj is so Shantiniketani, classical and ''grand'' and the voice so deliberately understated that I felt there was a slight disjunct there. Maybe the two artistes could address this in future collaborations...

Having said that, I find this an utterly engrossing experiment... The direction is right.

    Cheers!

  • beautiful & haunting!

  • I think It's the Esraj that makes this song. Oshadharon, opurbo, ethereal Esraj playing.... After listening to the esraj's beautiful introduction in rag Bihag, I thought the song was disappointingly plain. Can someone pl tell me who the instrumentalists are???

  • @09dedalus hi, ornob's composition, and he plays all instruments!

  • i thought it was tagore's composition? :))

  • @09dedalus look, u wanted to know who composed this song when sahana sang! looks like u didnt want to know who thot of the esraj and the rest of it! btw, the singing that follows is far from plain!

  • awesome, sahana! -monisha
