You are flicking it over starting from 90 degrees back from compression? Otherwise the mag does not energise. I guess you are cos you said following the instructions.
I fully choke mine then turn it over 2 or 3 times at which point fuel will run out of the intake, then turn it over a couple of times more, then a few sharp flicks starting well back from compression (not starting against against compression)
@lotonpark It's the latest magneto, very small flywheel, brand new engine, have followed the starting proceedures as specified in the manual, thinking about converting it to coil spark, as have a spare one in the box, just need the flywheel supplied by just engines in the new year

I've got the same engine, in a scratch built 1/4 scale DR1 as well! wish my one started that easy! I have to use a starter to get her running

Mine does start easily. Is your engine the early magneto ignition G230?
