That Grindhouse package is a monster! That Wake in Fright one looks sweet and Ted did commentary too? Whatta guy! Glad to hear I'm a huge Donald Pleasance fan, he only played an Aussie again in Ground Zero I think. Oh Holy Mountain, saw a new print awhile back at the Bloor, odd but I liked it. There was a good documentary uhh "Midnight Madness" I think looked at El Topo among others. Your DVD collection is getting as cool as your VHS one. Great stuff, thanks for posting!
Yeah I love picking up multi-packs and box sets. They are not mass produced here so I think they are quite collectible.
I watched Wake In Fright with the commentary and they shot part of it in a place called Broken Hill in mid-summer. Man they were brave to do that because that place is like Death Valley in summer! That is where they are doing the next Mad Max flick, but in August (winter) instead. I'm getting a bit nervous about this new Mad Max and how good it's going to be
Oh boy I think I'll leave Broken Hill off my places to visit list if I make it down under.
Yeah, I hope it doesn't end up a disappointment like the similar belated sequel Indiana Jones/Crystal Skull. But I have faith in George Miller he can once again bring the car carnage so I'm hopeful. :)
I've been watching BMX Bandits on a loop lately. I think I can now quote it word for word. All of it done in the worst Australian accent you never heard, thank goth.
"Meda" was "Media" in the US & UK , as in Media Home Entertainment. Same style of box and artwork too. Why the re-naming for the Australian market? A clash of names with another company perhaps?
Merry Christmas and thanks for saving us from those titties!
In that case, I stand corrected. Never saw that name on the UK releases though. I have a Halloween carton from the late '70s which says "Media" on the box and tape, with exactly the same style artwork I've seen elsewhere. "Meda" sounds more like a spelling mistake!
I was pretty sure that MEDA was the same name everywhere in the late 70s, but renamed 'Media' in the early 80s. The slip case shown here is the US cover, but just with the PAL and Video Classics stickers stuck on them.
The US release of the Jodorowsky set is indeed six discs. I looked it up.
And Japan is still the only country that has released Grindhouse in its theatrical format. And with The Weinstein Company's financial troubles (Nine and Youth In Revolt look to be their final theatrical releases), it looks like that English-speaking countries will never see that version available. Ditto with Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.
Ah thanks for clearing that up. I've seen some sites indicate 5 discs, but this is obviously wrong.
I thought Miramax was untangling itself from Disney, but that appears to not be the case. Damn it I wanted to see Kill Bill as it was meant to be seen.
YT hates titties! Not sure what you'd think of JAW. Can't say I liked it, but it is unlike anything you'll ever see. I wonder how Nicole Kidman settles that ultra curly hair of hers. It's amazing what millions of dollars can do for your appearance.
journey among women seem interesting, i'll have to pick it up. dam I'm jealous of your aljerandro box, Ive got the anchor bay r1 dvd which looks nowhere near as good (oh yeh my set is 6 disc aswell). I was thinking of getting that grindhouse box but i hesitated when i found out its still not "grindhouse" with the 2 films combined and trailers, so for now I'm happy with my 6 disc japan set.
Excellent update. I really like those Grindhouse and Pulp Fiction dvd's. Wake in Fright and Journey Among Women look good I'll have to track them down.
I suspect Wake in Fright will get a release in North America at some stage. Journey Among Women may not, considering it's already available. The 2-disc edition is worthy of an import if you can get it cheap, but it's seriously not a great film.
I don't understand why audiences are so hung up about nudity and sex. It's completely irrational. Mind you I'm surprised the Aust version of WIF was intact considering how conservative it was prior to the November 1971 classification overhaul (WIF was classified prior to it).
Haven't seen the Bogeyman flicks for a while. An MP3 soundtrack seemss like a worthy download!
You're obviously intelligent enough to block all the nudity, unlike myself who shows a line of 10 inch dicks from the "Salo" booklet.lol
BMX Bandits, Gummo and Journey Among Women have been added to my list!
I wanted to buy the Grindhouse box set the other day, but the douche bags were all out. I'm going back Saturday. Mind you, I might go tomorrow after your comments.
Bloody birthday LOL
I almost picked up the Jodorowsky set the other day. I'm regretting it now.
When I saw those 10 inch penises, I thought I was looking in the mirror lol. But no, I take no chances around here!
If you can get BMX and Gummo dirt cheap, it's worth it. Some people hate Gummo though. JAW is like no film you've ever seen or will see again. It's not great, but certainly unique.
Do try to get the Grindhouse cannister edition. Village Roadshow NEVER EVER re-issue special editions.
As for Jodorowsky. El Topo is THE grindhouse zeitgeist classic. Get it while you can!!!

do u buy any imported dvds/blurays?
BRm2008 2 years ago
I frequently buy imported titles. Only if they are not locally released - I hate NTSC quality.

Awesome Grindhouse and Pulp Fiction special editions!

Yeah BMX Bandits is pure 80s cringe. A lot of fun.
Those special editions were a pretty good price.

What year was the Bandits? Its hard to understand with your accent. Sounded like 9993?

The year was 1983. I've gotta stop mumbling.

'Interesting' is a good way to describe JAW. It's not a great film at all, but it's very unique.
Some internet sources list the R1 Alejandro set as 5 disc. Strange.
Yes I saw the Japanese 6-disc limited edition. It looks amazing with the fancy packaging and all but it's now like over $100.
