I agree that the English version sounds better. Often, it's the original that holds most emotion. But this is one of the cases were I think it's the other way around. Additionally, the did a good job in making it sound original, rather than just straight-off copying what's said in the original version.
this scene is a perfect example why serial killer sicko types should study their homework before engaging combat with trained/experienced professionals.
otherwise they turn into a dog-food just like that stupid boy.
Now i don't normally say this. But the English dub for Black Lagoon was spectacular and does sound better than the Japanese. But it's a statement that ONLY applies to Black Lagoon, not all anime's have great english voice actors. Code Geass is a fine example. But still Balalaika is awesome!
Idk about the german dub, but i enjoyed the english dub better than the japanese one. As with baccano! english is just a superior language for the setting of the story, even though japanese voice actors are the most skilled.
@capnfoo It is only a youtube comment. Those comments usually only express your personal taste especially if they are about simple topics like the quality of dub voices. So I don't understand why a statement like that has to be answered in such a dumb way.
Germany is well known for high-quality dubs. They made use of famous voice actors in Germany which I appreciate.e.g. Revy has (in my eyes) a much stronger voice in the english and german dub, which fits well to the way she acts.
@TheTantrum. @TheTantrum. In other words he disagrees with you and thus he has awful taste.
Let me interject here, a Japanese accent does not fit a RUSSIAN or a TAIWANESE character. Saying that the Japanese voice is accurate for those characters is kind of stupid in hindsight... but that's why a dub exists. Sure, it doesn't sound politically accurate to one, but it sounds fantastic to another.
Considering how the English dubbers thought it was necessary to up the "fucks" and other assorted American 'goodies' such as "dumbass", that is pretty moronic if you prefer that.
@AidanMclaren I think it suits well to the characters. For example Revy grew up in the Bronx a rude environment, gang violence etc. It only makes sense that she doesn't watch her language if you consider her behaviour and background. Think of those awkward moments in the japanese dub where Revy (who was born in the U.S) speaks English.
@Kermi Uhh no after comparing Japanese and English I have to say English but don't yell at me it's fine to have your own opinion so don't get mad and start trolling me
@Kermi I agree with Tarfyen2 on this one. the english dub is superior this time around because lets face it. there is only one japanese main character in this anime and it fits in better. you may argue that in the japanese version there are some scenes with english but in my opinion it's not english it's engrish and annoying.

@freeway104 - it captures her authority. I didn't know she was supposed to be cheerful at all. Her funny side? When she persuaded Rock to talk to Roberta and Revy in mid-fight. Her english voice is sexy just like her Japaneseo ne.
Don't know about that. I looked at this scene in English and it was definitely under par, at least in my opinion. Then again, the anime isn't dubbed to my native language at all and the Japanese dub was the first I heard, so it's possible that I like it just because it sounds more natural to me.
Besides, I'm negative to dubbing in general. You'll never be able to completely recreate the original feeling from the lines.
@aryllia - Gurren Lagann, Haruhi Suzumiya, Dragonball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, Serial Experiments Lain, Cowboy Bebop, the third of which the dub was preferred over the original by the creator himself; I could go on.
The only anime I've ever not liked dubbed was One Piece. I hate hearing "Gum Gum" instead of "Gomu Gomu no"... it just sounds WRONG. Besides, I don't get your "original feeling". You're reading lines at the bottom of a screen. You only know as much as the person that translated it.
With original feeling I mean all the little things that get lost in translation. When you dub, you have to consider lip sync as well as minor cultural adjustments where you can't directly translate (for ex. where there's no corresponding word in the language you're translating to). Subs are slightly more free in that sense, as well as many fansubs complement their subs with explanatory texts. Besides, after growing up with subs, I'm just to checking the subs against what's said.
@Tarfyen2 Actually I agree... most of the characters are western or not japanese, it makes a lot more of sense hearing it in english. Plus they kinda give more feeling to the lines... Balalaika´s "I said kneel!" sounds more aggressive and menacing in the english dub. So yeah, at least in this case in particular it´s better in english. Plus Roberta speaking in spanish sounds like a fucking joke in the japanese version (this coming from a guy whose native language is spanish)
@tsunade757 It's better in English imho because the show makes more sense that that. (Three American's + one Japanese guy who most likely can speak English). Add to that the side characters Chan and Bala most likely speak speak English to each other (if not Chinese). Also note the US Dollars in the opening credits.. The dubbed version just makes more sense.
@tsunade757 What's funny about her voice in the English dub is that its the same actress who played the girl's coach that everyone hates in John Tucker Must Die. lmao
"I SAID KNEEL!!" *no no no kneel faster,i shouldn't have to wait 3 whole seconds for this, oh god damn it your full of blood too, this is gunna take a while* -__-
