My mate had an h22 97 prelude with about 200bhp and it was really nothing special. Dont get me wrong i dont mind them, there good cars but comparing the two u making a huge error! MR2 is one of a kind (mind though im only talking about mk2 MR2's) the ride is great, feels so supercar-like.

Toyota MR2's are not all that fast, i am quite disappointed as my one is in excellent condition and a 2litre but it can't do much over than 135Mph, for a 2Litre it should do at least over 140, I had a 1.6 Honda CRX and that did 137Mph no problem and still had more to go. So for an MR2 having 400cc more (that's same power as some fast motorbike) I would have thought it be able to handle 140Mph at the minimum - it's a 1998cc engine for heavens sake

And obviously the condition of your MR2. If you want an MR2 that goes up to 155mph buy a turbo one. Mine did about 150mph then i got scared and slowed down =]

@patryko85 2L is a 2L mate! How the hell did I get 137mph out of a 1.6L rust bucket of a CRX (1989) then? (Complete standard) And still had more speed to go too, there was nothing done to the gears or to gear ratios and was non-turbo. The answer is that the CRX direct overhead cam engine was a great specification. Also front wheel drive of a small car like CRX offers a lot more torque, especially on 5000rpm plus - CRX's were famous for that.

If you are so unhappy with mr2's performance just go back to your little CRX. I'd rather be driving 135mph in an MR2 than a 137mph in a death box. And who cares about two mile an hour difference! I got 4.0l V8 soarer but i dont expect to get 200mph out of it!!

@patryko85 Back to the debate, You mentioned 'Turbo and 155mph' and I never mentioned modifications at all, I was simply comparing two standard cars and I thought the MR2 would have been faster as it is 400cc more than CRX. It goes without saying that on 'standard' cars, larger engines offer more speed. So in my view CRX is faster than MR2. Yes CRX is a death trap - in an ideal world you wouldn't wanna have an accident doing that speed in an MR2 either - they are just as flimsy.

@patryko85 Firstly I'd say that most roadworthy 1.6L 16V CRX's are capable of achieving 125mph and beyond so get facts before coming up with random figures! (I once got 110mph out of a Ford Fiesta flat out tops and it was only a 1.1L). Most modern 1.6L cars of today can all achieve 120-125mph, a CRX had more potential for speed so your wrong! Secondly a bigger engine does mean speed and power. I'm sure your bright enough to know that insurance premiums are cheaper on less powerful cars.

@TheBottledair I have an Mr2 Widebody and a B20 Swapped CRX and let me tell you right now the crx is much faster but its unstable as shit!! haha. The Mr2 has almost a 50/50 Weight distribution and handles better than any car i've ever been in, I would say that it rivals the S2000 in handling which has a 50/50 weight distribution (drove one of them as well). This is all coming from a guy that has both so to say the Mr2 has crap handling is ludicrous

It was 16V no mods, I was nearly at the 140mark but had to slow down, so how the fuck you say that a top spec CRX can do 140mph beats me. I have no reason to lie, I have had a few cars in my time but for a small engine like a CRX the speed they can pack in is pretty phenomenal. Like I say many Honda CRX owners will be offended at you insulting/made-up figures! - Sort it out!!

well the front bumper is a one off custom built with fibreglass.and the bonnet is the original mr2 but highly modified to fit in with the lines of the lights
