  • Stevie ricks could have done a better voice.

  • Who authorised that awful, awful child's production...

If you're going to even mention someone like Lennon, at least have some f***ing taste while your doing it.

  • Terrible John Lennon impersonation. Worst I've ever heard.

  • Great initiative. Super creepy way of doing it. Let the man rest.

  • Great idea, but lennon is still 40 here!!!....digitally aging the man would have been more realistic and respectful, IIMHO

  • Terrible PR decision for what is in fact a good initiative. Yes, food is more needed, but food shortages are a recurring problem that is more difficult and more expensive to solve. These laptops provide a major education avenue with a one time expenditure and THEY ARE SELF POWERED. They can use solar and even a hand-crank.

  • Are you fucking kidding me?! This is the most insulting thing ever. After everything that he stood and fought for, they insult his memory with this laptop commercial? This is wrong on so many levels. >: /

  • I had to watch the video for Imagine to give me purification. This is pretty low, to say the least...

  • ???????????????

  • i think it is ridiculous!!!!! these kids do not need laptops.they need food, water, shelter, meds, health care, education!!!!

  • I'm not a super huge fan of The Beatles, but this is just plain insulting.. whoever thought this up need a swift kick to the ass.

  • thats not johns voice they hired some to do a bad impresion

  • Using John Lennon in a commercial for laptops is just... wrong.

  • A poor child in Africa does not need a laptop. I'm pretty sure if I was a starving little child in Africa, I would want food so I wouldn't starve to death. Or water so I don't get dehydrated.

  • Great! Let's just dig up all the corpses of our heroes and assrape them! What's the next thing for the marketing business? Gandhi for Pepsi?!

  • I've always seen him more as a Coca-Cola guy....

  • haha x)

  • wtffffffffffffffffff

  • wtf is this bullshit?

  • it is the best gift this laptop can bring many knodlegde to them.

if you bought them one, they will alway carry it and it is as you have bought them a present that carry lifetime

everytime they see laptop, they remember you, it is the most good thing we have ever done

  • im sure john would approve of good things for kids-but the kids of the world need more good adults than they do computers

  • erm... what is the point of pretending he's saying it. its obviously nothing like him just coz he sang a song about peace doesnt mean people should literally put words into his mouth for other charities. yeah, its all a good cause but a bit of a gimmick

  • i agree, I think thi whole thing is crass and tasteless. I don't know why Yoko allowed his name to be whored out like this.

  • This Company is great, they are nonprofit and Lennon would have supported them and im pritty sure if he still was alive he would have done this for real. + its not disrespectful cause if it was Yoko Ono wouldnt have allowed it to be aired: they got her permission first and she is extremly protective of him. Ill leave you with a quote concerning the food/technolgy issue.

"Give a Man a fish and you will feed him for a day. Give a man a Pole and Feed him for Life"

  • I prefer "Give a man a fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of the day.

Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."

Or as Ricky Gervais said, "Give a Man a fish and you will feed him for a day. Give a man a fishing net, and he'll go fucking mental! No wonder the worlds fish supplies are running out"

  • I usually don't call people out, but come on heavyrocklegend, you have a Metro PCS comment on an AT&T issue.

  • "I see dead people"

  • its obviosly not lennon he died in 1980 before laptops.

  • lolduh

  • you cant drink or eat a laptop , well i suppose you could eat it but it would taste of plastic

  • thts not him talkin its an equalizer but the picture is him

  • sounds like an impersonator, maybe the same guy who did him in "Forrest Gump"

  • tgreens11, i'm w/u on all..............this certainly serves it's purpose by getting attention for a really great cause!!!

  • Hell scary... But I think J. Lennon would like.... Maybe not?

  • 6LouisCypher6, i think ur right, john would like......................yes, i think it's a little freaky, but all for a good cause and that's all that counts!!!

  • what dead celebrities you want to see do a commercial?

  • kurt cobain, frank sinatra, elvis, sid vicious, jimi hendrix, janis joplin

  • and buddy holly

  • I know this is for a good cause n all but come at least use his voice or an actual qoute. This guy sounds like him out of chapter 27 .

  • They did a better job of making Fred Estaire dance with that vacuum sweeper...

  • thats not john lennon's voice, its not even close.

  • It was nice to see John again :)

  • Terrible impression. Sounds like an American doing a Liverpool accent. You'd think they could have found someone better to to the voice.

  • it's not an impression. they just spliced together words from different recordings of him and used software to "smooth" it out a bit.

  • At least for me, is fake! (not sound like the tipical lennon's voice)

  • I'd rather say this one is quite tearjerking,c'mon man John is back and promotes laptops to poor children.Peace!

  • i can't deny that it's interesting, and a great idea. But in my opinion they could have done a much better job at getting his voice right. It sounds too much like George Harrison at times. It's not nasal enough, with to much Scottish/Irish thickness. That's what bugs me most.

  • Agreed.. that's exactly what I was about to write.

  • URGHH CREEPY

  • Its not a bad cause, and it's possible that it's the kind of thing Lennon would have supported. But I think it's disrespectful to use an old piece of video of him and a voice impersonator to "put words in his mouth" to promote anything, even a charity. I mean, the man is deceased. It would be different if you used an actual clip of him saying something he believed in when he was alive, to promote an issue that still exists, like peace for example.

  • this commercial is kinda creepy. But he's right.

  • Don't you think it's a little odd that John is talking about laptops? Laptops were first marketed in 1983, yet John died in 1980. Not to mention the internet wasn't even created until 1989. I think the organization is great, but this is a completely fake and inaccurate ad.

  • Of course it's 3D recreation, you should read the info: "The singer has been brought back to life using digital technology for the One Laptop Per Child initiative."

  • ...your an idiot...they used that for his voice...

  • It was approved by Yoko Ono. Who knows John better than her? John was always for changing the world in a positive way, and I'm sure he would have approved. This is very similar to advertisements for charities that he did while he was alive. Creepy, yes. Dishonorable? Not so much.

  • I think Yoko has missed a point in bringing John back to life in this add, admirable as the cause is I think John would have prefferred a greater one, this feels too "arnt we a great charity, look what weve done for the add" Yoko on the other hand is always pushing Johns legacy and image all over the place, she should have had a digital statement made for peace in todays post Iraq/afghanistan/9/11 world..John would have loved that!!

  • VERY good point. Focus on the poverty and saving lives of starving children, not giving them laptops. While he almost certainly would have spoken highly of this charity and maybe even done a spot for them, of ALL the things they could have picked, this is far from the best.

  • Thanks for the pointer, I agree, its interesting though to speculate on what John would have chosen,in his last interviews he spoke candidly about his wishes for the world, his royalties were "tithed" to provide for a charitable fund known as the Spirit foundation, however he was also known for backing "causes"all over the place in the early seventies, but I believe he would prefer this to being digitally transposed onto Thomas the tank engine..

  • ..but only just!

  • Very intelligent. Your daddy pay for your studies and your PC for playing Nintendo that's because you depreciate knowledgement. Grow up.

  • of course she did, that stupid bitch is still trying to get every cent out of him that she can.

  • It's for a good cause and yoko approved of this, so all you little ignorants please just shut up noone cares what you have to say it's been done. so let it be.

  • I'm wondering why the words of a dead man would ring more true that words of a living man? That fact that he never spoke those exact words makes the whole message hollow.... good cause or not.

This is most likely a case of the marketing people going: "Any publicity is good - even bad publicity".

I disagree completely. This is hurting both Lennon and the cause.

Yoko, once more, proves she has shit for brains. No sense of reality.

  • That Sounds Super Creepy...

  • This is a disgusting display of commercialism . I'm sorry we lost John Lennon he was a great artist he and the beatles changed music history . That does not excuse using him for ads that did not relate to his time span . Computers were not a household item as they are now . There are plenty of living people to use in these ads . After seeing this I would not choose to donate anything to this organisation . Based on this sad display.Leave John Lennon Rest in Peace

  • that is so creepy and amazing at the same time, i wonder what he thinks of this

  • This is HORRIBLE, why would they use John, out of all people that are still alive?

  • If she "didn't know" it's because she's either stupid... or doesn't care.

Good cause or not... it's just wrong in so many ways.

  • Shame that a good cause would do something so utterly tasteless. Yoko is the big sellout here. Alter a person's words after their death, because we THINK they might have endorsed the cause. Come on!

However likely it would be that John WOULD support the cause... HE DIDN'T!

Just stop it. Quit it! This is horrible.

Shame on you, Yoko! (Once more)

  • hey dude its not Yoko's fault she didn't know that some ppl would hate this commerical. so dont be that harsh :P

  • Well, she's a bit dumb then, isn't she? :-)

  • this is a little creepy..

  • Yeah there must be some cash in it for Yoko. Question: Why is Yoko like a starving African?

Answer: They're both living off dead beatles.

  • Wow, stfu

  • Boo!!!! This is soo disrespectful.

  • U-G-L-Y!

1 Does not sound like him

    2 John wouldn't do THIS

  • What's "U-G-L-Y!"

    1. Actually, it Does sound like John, though the CGI lip-synching overlay at the end is rubbish.

    2. Correct, but Yoko WOULD and DID for a big enough pile of money! Still, she's been exploiting her dead husband (who was on the verge of divorcing her before he was murdered)for 28 years, so why stop now?

  • Sound's f**k all like him...

  • Is that it? That was a really mediocre impression. I don't remember Lennon having a burst of helium before talking.

  • no entiendo x que necesitan laptop para vivir? John no apoyaria esto. Acaso Yoko perdio la razon???

Pd: es tan lindo escucharlo otra vez!

  • don't they need food instead of free laptops? How can we change the world because we offer a free laptop to a child? Sometimes there isn't even electricity for the kids to live.

    This commercial is lame.

  • I think you are right, I wonder what John Lennon would have made of it all.

  • Like someone said elsewhere "What's that sound? It's John Lennon rolling in his grave" He would never dream to endorse something like this. Nonsense man!!

  • Well these laptops are made for their education, not for games and entertainment, they go to school with them, they are not like the ones that you can buy at best buy or compusa... it's for their future... any job in a good country requires for you to know how to use a computer. / Of course they need food and clothes, but they study to be able to provide that for themselves and their families...

  • You're a kid for sure, as I said before, your daddy paid for your education but it was a waste I see. Keep playing games at PC, at least let other people have it.

  • @sarkoleon I think the worlds shared knowledge could help someone figure out how to get food.... but do they have electricity?
