the difference between kwanzaa and other secular holidays is that kwanzaa is exclusive, as opposed to inclusive. St Patrick's Day is not really a holiday, and it's open to all people. Non-Chinese are invited to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Hanukkah is based on one's religion - not skin color; same for the rest of the religious holidays. This is the only "holiday" that requires participants to have a specific skin color. Is that the best way to harmonize a racially diverse community?

Karenga FOUNDED the celebration in Calif. in the '60s -- but it is an old celebration from ancient Africa. READ BLACK HISTORY before making such harsh, off-base statements.

I don't know about anyone else, but I found that the audio voice was quite annoying at times and difficult to listen to. The video was informative and it was a cool idea, but if you are going to upload more of these, perhaps you should consider just reading the text aloud yourself. I think that a human voice that has proper pronunciation and tone would be far better than a boring computerized monotone...

That discrimination can take the form of thinking bad thoughts, being a keyboard warrior, not hiring someone, or attacking them physically. Saying someone can't honor their own holiday based on ideals they want to pursue, because it represents something outside of your ideals is bigoted, but you're right. It may not be racist. How we celebrate christmas is NOT in the bible, in any sense. What we celebrate is a mix of the pagan Roman holiday Saturnalias and a bunch of old Northern European pagan traditions, with a sprinkling of Christianity on top.
Not that I think this invalidates Christmas (consumerism does, though), I just acknowledge the cultural mishmash that is Christian culture, which barrows a lot from many pre-Christian cultures.

Everyone is entitle to their opinion. I celebrate both Christmas and Kwanzaa. My son goes a Catholic school and attends a very diverse Church. On the day of Karamu (feast) we celebrate with good food, music and our family and friends from all over the world. My best friend who is from Vietnam, my sister-in-law is Irish, long time friends from India and a good friend who is Jewish. Kwanzaa is aobut comunity, culture,and our children -our future.

read your history again. Christmas didn't show up until the christians "inveted" it. And that was hundred of years after jesus's birth. In december, when pagan religion was the dominant one. the difference between kwanzaa and other secular holidays is that kwanzaa is exclusive, as opposed to inclusive. St Patrick's Day is not really a holiday, and it's open to all people. Non-Chinese are invited to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Hanukkah is based on one's religion - not skin color; same for the rest of the religious holidays. This is the only "holiday" that requires participants to have a specific skin color. Is that the best way to harmonize a racially diverse community?
