  • jazz video guy says it's Hank Crawford w/ Fathead Newman

  • anybody know what key this is in?

  • wow a video with no dislikes thats just th amazingness of ray charles and his awesome band

  • 1963...when you wanted a big band sound with 13+ players....you had to hire 13 + people!!! not push a freakin button!!

  • i really don't think Tina brooks was tenor battling material. to much lyricism

  • Good grief! I didn't believe you at first: that really is Tina Brooks! Wow! Not only does the guy resemble him, but he's playing the same type of horn and he sounds just like him. Nice call!

  • The exciting thing about this video is not David ''fathead'' Newman and is most certainly the fact that this is the ONLY footage of the extraordinarily unique and often overlooked tenor saxophonist TINA BROOKS.The man received very little recognition for his brilliance during his lifetime and should be considered one of the great Blue note era Tenor saxophonists of all time. There will never be another TINA BROOKS.RIP

  • fantastic, as exciting now as it was then.

  • In the tenor duet that's David 'Fathead' Newman on your left, and the great underrated Tina Brooks (check out his Blue Note albums!) on your right. The tune is 'Birth of a Band' by Quincy Jones.

  • In the tenor duet that's David 'Fathead' Newman on the left and the great underrated Tina Brooks (check out his Blue Note albums!) on the left. The tune is Qunicy Jones' Birth of a Band.

  • I liked Ray playing organ better. The BEST

  • Sounds like a Quincy Jones chart.

  • which 1 is fathead?

  • @bluecreep07 think hes the guy without the ring dunno

  • @bluecreep07 He is on the left.

  • just think around this time, ray and half the band was strung out on Hehrawn!

  • these men put in werk here!!!!

  • my goodness...

  • Iraaaaado!

  • the best

  • tina was containing himself or something, i know fathead also was a beast but tina is better overall period

  • definitely Tina Brooks, burning stuff.

  • rei charles rei do soul

  • je flippe

  • Greatly admire the respect between those instrumentalists. Damn! They show us How!

  • Way of the way (!!!!)

  • sweet post.

  • Ray said in an interwiew about his cecity: "Non mi lamento, poteva andarmi peggio. Pensi se fossi nato negro!".

    he was just a genious

  • Looks and sounds like Tina Brooks to me.

  • @watsonp143 DEFINITELY Tina Brooks

  • tina brooks

  • Jackie Payne I think the other tenor player is Don Wilkerson, from Houston.

  • fabulous

  • Lo que daría por haber vivido en 1963...

  • When musicians weren't as lazy.

  • @tyleryesta1 yeah, when they had a one special talent better back then versus in 2010 but some musician alright it depends.

  • @tyleryesta1 are

  • @tyleryesta1 Technology make people lazy

  • Sooo coool

  • its great to see footage of tina brooks, even though fathead blew him out.

  • I think that is Hank Crawford on tenor...I'm almost sure of it! I don't think it's Tina

  • R.I.P. Fathead

  • I flipped when the Sax players started Duel trading,Fuckiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiingggggggggggotmk45ogk45muigt45jyg5 Greatness,Something that is born die's,

    This will never die haSBDWJETNG45UIJYH5

  • God damnit this is great!!! Would get the dead shakin their hips and tapping their feet.

  • Wholy sh#t so fantastic, blows my brain

  • The other tenor soloist is Tina Brooks, who's on a bunch of good Blue Note records, both as a leader and as a sideman.

  • Yeah, Tina and Jackie McLean collaborated on an album called Shades of Redd.....Tina is a hell of a player, this clip does not give him justice!!

  • Jackie dug Tina, he used him on his record "Jackie's Bag", an absolute classic. And I agree, this is not Tina's best work...actually, Fathead kind of fucks him up.

  • Sure looks like Tina . Are you sure it's Tina ? This is not meant

as a challenge or anything . Just a question from a fan.

  • Yeah, it's definitely Tina, it's been confirmed by people who knew him.

  • Ele é o cara...

  • Old Quincy Jones song

  • this is great! I saw 'Fathead' play in SF about a year ago--still sounding good.

  • Yeah!

  • elvis presley, the king of rock'n'roll and ray the genius
