Good grief! I didn't believe you at first: that really is Tina Brooks! Wow! Not only does the guy resemble him, but he's playing the same type of horn and he sounds just like him. Nice call!
The exciting thing about this video is not David ''fathead'' Newman and is most certainly the fact that this is the ONLY footage of the extraordinarily unique and often overlooked tenor saxophonist TINA BROOKS.The man received very little recognition for his brilliance during his lifetime and should be considered one of the great Blue note era Tenor saxophonists of all time. There will never be another TINA BROOKS.RIP
In the tenor duet that's David 'Fathead' Newman on your left, and the great underrated Tina Brooks (check out his Blue Note albums!) on your right. The tune is 'Birth of a Band' by Quincy Jones.

Jackie dug Tina, he used him on his record "Jackie's Bag", an absolute classic. And I agree, this is not Tina's best work...actually, Fathead kind of fucks him up.

The other tenor soloist is Tina Brooks, who's on a bunch of good Blue Note records, both as a leader and as a sideman.

Yeah, Tina and Jackie McLean collaborated on an album called Shades of Redd.....Tina is a hell of a player, this clip does not give him justice!!
