The TCB band along with a host of famous singers and musicians, including Bruce Springsteen, played a legendary one off concert with the great Roy Orbinson in 1988. The show was called A Black and White Night, available on both CD and DVD, is one of the best live rock'n'roll music ever recorded. But what made the show extra special was the presence of Elvis' TCB band, and Ronnie Tutt's drumming was just spectacular. Not too fancy or over the top. The years of practicing with Elvis paid off!
Ronnie is awesome, and an extremely versatile drummer. Niel Peart is in his own category though. And Niel is one of the most influential (Progressive Rock) drummer / lyricists of all time. I would put Ronnie in the Buddy Rich/Louie Bellson category. I've recently joined an Elvis Tribute band and I am studying Ronnie and he is incredible, along with Elvis and the rest of his band. I have a new respect for Elvis- now. Thanks for posting.
OH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW BLOODY HELL RONNIE I KNEW YOU WERE GOOD BUT NOT THIS GOOD???I THINK COSY POWELL WAS SWEATING AFTER HE HEARD THAT FUCKIN BRILLIANT.....LIKE ELVIS SAID ''FANTASTIC,RONNIE!''
A great drummer who often is, unfortunately, overlooked because he played behind a legend like Elvis.
I grew up listening to him because my mom loved Elvis. I have played drums for years and I still cannot play the ending of CC Rider as he played it on Elvis's Hawaii Comeback album. His rapid-fire stick work and interplay between bass, snare and toms on that song has stuck with me for nearly 40 years now. Thank you very much for that Mr. Tutt!
its weird because ronnie is personally one of the best drummers ive ever heard and yet you barely ever hear about him............i guess if he was in a band with about 3 other people he might be recognized more
but anyway im just glad the king had such a kickass drummer in his band so it all worked out i guess
Now HERE'S a guy who knows what the heck he's talkin' about. Thought I was alone in this world thinkin' Ronnie was ranked up there at the top.
Met Ronnie last month in Memphis. Told him his solos sound like someone threw his drum kit down a long flight of stairs and he forgot to let go. He thought that was funny. He signed a drum head for me. I told him he's the reason I play drums. Awesome talent, and still rockin'!
thanks for the info. I have that CD and yet obviously hadn't listened properly to the introductions. Time to dig it out again I reckon. Great stuff. For me it's his speed that always impresses and yet it seems effortless. Listen to Madison Square Gardens concert for some amazing drumming. Fantastic.
I think my earlier reply may have been wrong.I think this is from a cd called Bicentennial,if my memory serves me right.Blows me away every time I hear it.
He drum rolls with one stick . . . others do it but it's really hard to keep the roll going in time while the other stick is slapping cymbals and beatin' drums at a different tempo.
@PSEbowhunter55 Everyone knows and hears about Neil Peart. I honestly don't think Neil Peart is as good as Ronnie Tutt. Over rated in my opinion. I'll have to check out Thomas Lang. Not familiar
I'm glad this drum solo has been posted.I've been listening to this for years and it never ceases to blow me away.I've never heard a solo like it,especially towards the end.
On the drums from Dallas, Texas......hard felchin' Ronne Tutt.......
