That lake is hard to fish but the fish are hard fighters. Duke power spilled some toxics materials in this lake 20+years ago and it killed every fish in the lake. there are no huge cats but the bass grow much faster and have come back good. The clear water is a biproduct of the spill which happened in the discharge stream from what I hear. The further you get the more color is the rule. The biggest bass I have caught was 9 pounds from belews lake and that was just south of the hwy 158 bridge
