  • Hey I just noticed young Yngwie looks like Sid Vicious...

  • how come rip off ... if you think like this .you must think ULI and Ritche are rip offs from bach paganini vivaldi.......its not like this.... influence is the right word for this cases.thei're 3 genious guitarrists...ritchie not so much

  • i know his fingers were dying to shred.....must be very tough for him to play slow...

  • ... The production of fender stratocaster started in 1954, and large headstock introduce in mid 60´s CBS era.

Yngwie said the best stratocasters are made in this era, but you have to be very seletive.

  • that guitar actualy is from 1948 and is one of the ten first stratocasters made...its still original acording to yngwie he didnt change anything on it :)

  • 安っぽい・・・

  • I didn't know YM had a guitar that wasn't yellow ... :P

  • With all this talk about Uli & Yngwie, I think we're forgetting that it wasn't simply Uli, but the whole Scorpions band. I don't know the original folk song so I can't make comparisons, but I know that the melody is obviously the same. I personally prefer the Scorps' version because it included the whole band with first the vocals only and then everone else joining in. The crowd singing along in the beginning gave it a totally different vibe too. Nothing wrong with loving them BOTH! :)

  • 別にいいんだけど、荒城の月はこんな騒がしく弾くと良さがでないな…

  • you can copy uli's licks, but you'll never have his feeling... never!

  • いんぎいの歯、けっこう削れてるんじゃないのか?

    もっとピロピロしてほしかったな。

  • good version of kojo no tsuki by yngwie

uli's version is a lot better but i like this one too

  • Alright Yngwie, next play Sakura Sakura.

  • i have this song note on my Yamaha Guitar Lesson book :D

  • nice tooth playing

  • これはきついっす

  • wrong wrong wrong...

  • @armandddd WHERE IS WRONG

  • You really should edit your video details.

    Pretty embarrasing.

  • OMG that was totally AWESOME!!! i think i love Yngwie since i was 8 years old and i keep in love with him *¬*

  • Uli did it first and better. CANT DENY IT

  • Haha video poster your a RETARD. Have you ever heard of doing a COVER? When your jammin on stage you dont have to give credit to the original creator of what your playing.

  • @jonyknox actually this is not a cover of uli roth's. it is playing a famoes japanese folk song to the japanese. scorpions did the same song. although very differently.

rip off? no way. it is very wrong of the poster to call it that.

  • I'm not a homosexual nor do I have any queer capacity; but, I would get a slight hard-on everytime I watch Yngwie plays. Can some one please offer me some mental health, PLEASE?!!!

  • @grumpypant You just have good taste in music.

  • This is a frick'in Japanese traditional music. Yngwie didn't rip off anybody. Yngwie was awesome in the 80's.

  • this song reminds me Jason Becker, haha lol

  • How many ripped off Malmsteen? lol

  • He didnt rip anyone off, he applied their styles to his own playing...

  • lucky japanesses!

  • that was exactly like scorpions...........but not as good

  • lets face it, you call him a rip off.. i call him one of the best guitarists out there. I mean if he ripped someone off then they should be embarrassed that yngwie passed them up. I personaly feel that he is among the best, even though i think paul gilbert is up there as well..that is a different story in a different comment . :)

  • @handcannon92 yngwie deffinatly didnt pass uli roth up, uli roth murdered him in this lol

  • HARD ROCK ETERNAL !!!!!!!!

  • YNGWIE begins in 1984, and is live broadcasting of Alcatrazz in Tokyo where they visited Japan, isn't it? Guitar kids all Japan were the captive of the wonderful guitar technique which is he surely who also lost the lead to the DO liver... then. I play the guitar, too, but I pay my respects to him who underwent influence most even now. Thank you very much, YNGWIE... You're the hero who is for me forever.

    Eternal....

  • @erikakeita

    ナイスコメントに...5☆彡です.

  • are there any tabs for this?

  • But...why the fuck don`t you get interviews of the artists themselves and that`s it.

Or some corrected wikipedia page for guitar playing`s sake...

I think everyone in this world could solve ourselves more than one trouble that way...

  • Give the guy a break man. He didn't rip off ANYBODY. It's a famous JAPANESE folk song and he's playing it for THEM! He didn't play it when he played elsewhere. That's like saying all the guitar players who played "Star Bangled Banner" ripped off Hendrix. Also, Yngwie also mentioned Uli Jon Roth as one of his favorite guitar players too. I know he invites criticism because of his attitude sometimes, but that doesn't mean everything he does is open to question.

  • yea i totally agree with TommyLent. He only play it at this concert only, not else where. This is i believe the only video in youtube that he made this cover.

  • It's more like saying Hendrix ripped off Francis Scott Key

  • @TommyLent Besides this it`s a real different version of the scorpion`s one.

  • yngwie played the KOJO NO TSUKI just like to saying hello to Japanese in Japan !!

like most bands and artists perform foreign folk songs when they live in a different country !!

  • SORRY,ITS NOT THE SAME ,CANT COMPARE AN ANTHEN WITH A POPULAR SONG.THE ANTHEN IS A SIMBOL OF THE IDENTITY OF A NATION.SO IS SOMETHING MUCH MORE OBVIOUS TO PLAY.KOJO NO TSUKI EVEN BEEN A POPULAR SONG IN JAPAN,THE SCORPS CHOOSE THIS ONE AS A WAY TO SALUTE THE CROWD.AND MAINLY THE Y.M ARRANGEMENT ITS EXACTLY THE SAME,AS ULI'S.THE ORIGINAL KOJO NO TSUKI SOUNDS VERY DIFERENT THAN ULI'S VERSION.WE REALLY CANT SAY Y.M.. RIPP OFF ULI,CAUSE THE SONG ITS NOT HIS.BUTHE RIPPED OF THE ARRANGEMENT FOR SURE

  • What the hell is hanging off his guitar headstock?

  • I don't think it's fair to call Yngwie an Uli Roth rip off just because he played Kojo No Tsuki for 1 minute in Japan. Yes, he admits Blackmore as a huge influence. But it's Yngwie's own talent and hard work that made him the artist he is. Uli Roth and Blackmore didn't write 12+ studio albums for him.

  • yes, his image was similar to blackmores, but his playing style is totally different

  • great footage man thanks! Yngwie will always be my favortie artist period. Even when his material isnt as good such as perpetual flame. I hope that ripper moves on with that solo album and Yngwie goes back to one of his oldies like turner or soto.

  • has anyone else noticed? satriani isnt the most hip or cool guitarist? i know it dont matter but sometimes its painfully obvious

  • why does it say he ripped off blackmore and uli joh roth?

  • Yngwie is, and always will be, The King

  • Malmsteen did get influenced by Blackmore and Uli Jon Roth

but I wouldn't call it a ripp off,he took it far beyond .Even Bach got influenced and made transcripts by Vivaldi and Beethoven by Motzart ,and the Beatles by Chuck Berry and Lennon by Donovan etc.

A real ripp off? I just heard is this song in the radio that sounds just like "with or without you "by U2 ,to bad I can't remember the band, does anybody know? well that's a ripp off lol

  • On June 30,1963 God created Yngwie. The Paginini of our times! Happy 46th Birthday and Keep ON Rocking!

  • Comment removed

  • cool face 1:18-1:19

  • I'll keep this short, FUCK ALL OF YOU NON YNGWIE LOVERS

  • Malmsteen isn't Roth, Blackmore, or anyone else. Like him or not, Malmsteen created an entire genre of Metal. Despite how good Roth and Blackmore are, how many guitarist claim them as influences? Look all over Youtube. How many Neo-Classical Players do you see? How many Roth and Blackmore inspired players do you see?

  • There are tons. Schenker, Roth and Blackmore started in rock "bands". Yngwie is not a "band". While a great guitar player he often lacks depth in his inability to create chemistry with other band members. Schenker, Roth and Blackmore were in great bands. Hard rock bands. Big difference. Yngwie was a huge fan of those guys because he knew how good they were. They wrote great songs. And collectively a band that has brilliant musicians at all levels is better than 1 guy. He don't know when to stop.

  • do you know who bach is?

  • Yes. What about him?

  • if you don`t know blackmore and schenker has troubles with many of the former members of their bands...for example the Rainbow formation changes ...dio, bonnet, lynn turner ,the drummers, keyboard players etc and you can`t forget his continuos fights against Gillan in purple...please think about all that before make a comment like this..and of course...Yngwie is the king

  • one thing i give credit for yngwie at least he's still playing hard rock untill like that asshole blackmore who's doing medival crap music.

  • im so tired of all whom constantly say he's trying to be like blackmore or uli jon roth leave the guy alone he's in a world all his own and has done alot to prove it !!!

  • love yngwie to the bone, but i like Uli's version of this much more.

  • Yngwie's biggest influences were Paganini and Hendrix. This is no secret, but something he has admitted in interviews. When he was eight, he saw Hendrix on TV and wanted to be like him - that's when he started to play the guitar. Then he learned about Paganini and wanted to be on guitar what Paganini was on violin.

  • Actully more in depth. Ynwgie saw a tv special on jimi hendrix the day he died. There was no audio no sound. All it showed was a clip of him burning his guitar. Yngwie took the guitar off his wall that day cause he figured you have to know how to play it before you can burn it. That was on his 7th birthday. Then on his 8th he dot deep purple fireball, which became his bible. He mortalized blackmore long in his days in Alcatrazz and even songs like jet to jet.

  • He took from blackmore his attitude and dark stage attire and his bluesyness, he tooke from jimi his stage presence more than anything else and his carisma. When he was 11 or 12 he saw another thing on swedish tv that changed his life. This was Niccolo Paganini. He almost everything he knows about soloing and interludes from paganini/ His virtuosity and attire and stage demenour. Backing up still in his younger years and especially in his harmony and counterpoint Bach. This song isf or Japan

  • Thanks for clarifying. Yes, of course Blackmore and Bach were great influences too as well as Vivaldi (it's no coincidence that Yngwies son is named Antonio Johann). However, he emphasises Hendrix and Paganini much more. Blackmore and Bach influenced Yngwie's music but Hendrix and Paganini were the reasons he played at all.

I saw another interview with Yngwie where he described meeting Blackmore and shaking his hand. Very interesting.

  • we want thıs dvd all parts not 1:35

  • buy it

  • why is it when people do covers of songs people start slaying the artist and say they ow there lives to them. gilbert did a million covers from satch ,the beatles and shawn lane played eric johnson stuff.

everyone listens to music they like and play it allot or learn how to play it so all this"he own his life to.......such and such needs to stop!!!

    rock on yngwie!!!

  • yngwie malmsteens biggest influences is Richie Blackmore, and Hendrix..

he loves deep purple, he thinks they are the best band in the world. and he loved hendrix because he burned his guitar. rock on!!!!!!!!!!!

  • tahts called inspiration, not influence. huge difference my brotha. yngwie was influence by classical violinists ok

  • ye and what i said was right he said it himself, influence changes actions, ad inspiration changes perseption and thought so there you go

  • first time I ve heard him play.....slow

  • first time ive herd him not do any runs up the neck

  • quote "I guarantee you that Malmsteen has taken quite a few pages from Uli Jon Roth's book. Malmsteen may have wanted to be Ritchie Blackmore, but his playing suggests that he borrowed alot more from Roth.

" this is exactly what my friends said bak in 1983...uli jon influence more than ritchie .. And definitely some msg influence...but uli was the first guy i ever heard that weeping technique....awesome playing ..

  • Yngwie was influenced by the two of the greatest guitarist around and both played for Scorpions they are Michael Schenker and Uli Roth...Yes Yngwie plays both guys music about time =Malmsteen pay homage to both of them.

  • No, his biggest influences were Richie Blackmore, and Hendrix and classical violin. maybe these as well but its highly unlikely.

  • nice soulful playing...anyone who can't hear the feeling in this is tone deaf.

  • I guarantee you that Malmsteen has taken quite a few pages from Uli Jon Roth's book. Malmsteen may have wanted to be Ritchie Blackmore, but his playing suggests that he borrowed alot more from Roth.

  • そうか、そうだったね!彼は昔から疑いもなくすばらしかった!

  • Yngwie Malmsteen are great guitarist ,but Scorpions is the kings from the old ages

  • Yngwie was influenced by the two of the greatest guitarist around and both played for Scorpions they are Michael Schenker and Uli Roth...Yes Yngwie plays both guys music about time =Malmsteen pay homage to both of them.

  • No, his biggest influences were Richie Blackmore, and Hendrix..

  • ripping of isn't the correct description. every musician that states he is without influences lies. someone got to be first. naturally it is allowed to be second. there is no reason not to learn from others.

  • The version Scorpions did on their Tokyo Tape albums is far superior to this one.

  • la musica no descalifica versiones,la musica crea musica

  • Ja, helt enig..! (Skjønner ikke hvorfor folk svarer på et helt annet språk enn hva den orginale potsen er på.. faen, jævla spanjoler eller hva faen dere er..)

  • you are a fucking retard

  • sorry but the version of Scorpions is much better than yngwie... i like yngwie but Scorpions are Kings

  • Looks like Marc Bolan:))))))

  • he´s the last step in music....a monster...

  • I bet someone in the late 60's early 70's said that about Blackmore until Roth showed up,then said the same thing about Rhoads till Yngwie showed up, then said the same thing until Becker,Gilbert,Howe showed up.

And then there's Stanley Jordan who is his own realm. In other words, guitar keeps progressing off the greats. There is no last step.

  • And more often it regresses

  • wow...Yngwie played for over a minute without running through mindless scales. Amazing he didn't ruin it.

  • you mean like buckethead he does scales from a 3 year old kid

  • MATTVASYLEVSKY!! HEY DUDE! It's no secret he is influenced by Roth!!He told it!

  • It's not ripping off, it's entertaining the crowd.

  • Gamma Ray did it in Japan too.

  • THis is traditional Japanese,... but the SCORPIONS DID THIS IN 1978 live Tokyo the best version you will ever hear!!

  • Yes, the 1978 Scorpions version is the best there is. Uli made a fantastic solo out of it and of course Klaus was on the top.

  • ahh i love Yngwie. Everything from rising force to odyssey to unleash the fury...all..so good...

  • i'm a viking

  • Yngwies biggest influences are J.S Bach, A Vivaldi, N Paganini among other classical composers. At least according to himself.

    Be well people

  • この曲を弾くとは・・・

  • It's not a "rip-off". Did Hendrix rip-off Bob Dylan with "All Along The Watchtower"?

Did Stevie Ray Vaughn rip-off Hendrix with "Little Wing"? Is Paul Gilbert ripping-off Ynwie with "I'll See The Light Tonight"? It's called respect.

  • And you thing I do not know that? Of course thats respect. All I'm trying to say is: everybody including Yngwie himself keep saying that Blackmore was main and biggest influence on Yngwie. I think Uli was much more to his style than Ritchie...

  • @MattVasylevsky maybe malsteen knows what his biggest influence is. btw, this video is no evidence that he's influenced by uli roth. however he says he is. as big as blackmore? probably not.

  • @MattVasylevsky I agree with matt 100% if you listen to Uli's full catalogue and compare it with Yngwie's early stuff there is a really big difference. Also to Tony: When Hendrix did all along the watchtower it was nothing like bob dylans...the same with stevie ray vaughn's cover of little wing...I haven't heard Paul do that one so I got nothing there lol :P either way he was infuenced he was best in the beginning of his career...IMO

  • インギーこれ弾いてたんだ・・・

  • I still like Uli Roth's version better!

  • Hmmmm

  • eat shit and die BLOTTPLUG

  • I love Yngwie!

  • Listen to the Scorpions version IT IS BETTER!

  • agreed!

  • I want to see him sweep pick with his teeth.

  • I have seen this video for a long time, and try very hard to find the name of this song (I know it is a Japanese traditional song already). Finally I find the answer in youtube, thx.

  • For the record, Scorpions were not the first people to perform Kojo No Tsuki. One notable recording was by Thelonious Monk on his Straight No Chaser album. So, was Uli ripping off Monk?

  • i think thats the slowest ive heard him play

  • we sang this at my school choir O_O

  • Olha só, o Malasteen já teve feeling! :o

  • lógico, copiou o Uli Jon Roth, o rei da melodia.... Aí até eu.

  • i think that fast guitar players cant play with swing when they play fast , but that doesn´t mean thay have no swing thats bullshit , i saw yngwie playing blues like any bluesman even beter, english it´s not my first lenguage

  • you guys can say what you like, but Yngwie is playing this to Japanese crowd, and they seem to like it enough

  • assomiglia a quello degli stratovarius

  • AHHHH once again jealousy rears its ugly head. ;)

  • Rexicano I agree with you. I detest this "all technique-no soul" garbage. These guitar youngsters are so distracted by all the glitz and glam. I swear, this guy plays so sterile. Where is the music? Where is the melody? All I see is ego.

  • I think there is feel in Yngwie's music, speed shouldnt determine whether or not something is depicting feeling. As for this song, I've never heard it, but it seems like there's too much vibrato.

  • Heh, I understand what you mean, ColoradoBansuri, but you're deaf if you can't hear the melody :) Malmsteen's songs have lots of it. 80's was all about melody. Don't be too narrow minded.

Hmm, wonder if there's Uli Roth's version of this song in YouTube. He played it in Tokyo Tapes LP around 1978 if I'm not mistaken. It wasn't instrumental either.

  • You see this is the problem I have with hardcore music buffs like you. You're so focused on your little objectives that you miss the lil gems in pieces of music like this. Yngwie can definatley play with "soul". Just listen to some of his acoustic/electric guitar compositions like Guardian Angel from his last record. Oh and by the way a souless shredder wouldn't let the notes ring.

  • A shredder without soul also wouldnt have Yngwie's exquisite baroque style vibrato!

I'm speechless when people say Yngwie has no feeling.

  • He doesn't have any feeling, too mechanical. It seems as though he needs to relearn by someone like John Lee Hooker. Malmsteen is way over praised.

  • Are you listening to that wide, dramatic voilin-like vibrato? I hear so much passion in his playing. When I think of too mechanical, I think of Herman Li or Michael Angelo.

  • anyone can add tons of vibrato, if the guy has no soul, it shows in his music.

  • i know a guy, darkjuju2006, who has no brain, check him out:p

  • Oh, look, you are trying to offend me. Isn't that just adorable. I am not allowed to have my opinion? What, are you some sort of Communist? You think you can shut me up? All you are doing is inviting me back here everytime you hit the "reply" button. I was already gone and not interested in comming back here. So, who is so brainless dear hippo? Hmmm? Yngwie still is a souless masterbator and you are still a blithering idiot.

  • You are entitled to an opinion when it comes to something like personal taste. You can dislike YJM, np. However, some things are not to be called 'opinion'. Malmsteen has 'soul' in his music. This can not be debated. You can't possibly think that a man who has spent thousands of hours training up his technique and theory, feels nothing when playing?

Furthermore, anyone who wites 'coming' wrong shouldn't try and convince others he's not an idiot...

  • Your hot winds blow out both sides of your mouth.

You say I can have an opinion but that I can't because the soul or lack thereof can not be debated.

You are constantly trying to offend me with personal attacks. I give you credit for at least being consistent in your efforts to find errors no matter how trivial.

My deepest apologies for degrading the structure of western civilization with my err.

Please find it in your heart to forgive me for my disgraceful use of spelling.

  • But, my point stands. It is my opinion and I like and enjoy many talented guitarists. Malmsteen is not one of them.

Thank you for your time. Have piece in your heart and try to forgive instead of fighting for a useless cause.

  • you misunderstood about the two winds. Yes you have the right to not like yjm or anyone else. But only so far as 'i don't like the style'. To say it lacks emotion, or that he lacks passion in his playing is erronous.

Compare it to orange juice. You can have an opinion on the taste, not the color.

  • Please do not click on the "Reply" link anymore. I am tired of hearing such a lame version of a great song.

  • lolol, now he's actually running. And most likely long gone. Cu pony

  • what? running huh?? gone?? huh?

perhaps you didn't understand the part about not replying. If you reply, I come back... wow, is there something difficult about that? do I need to spell it for you? Moron.

  • this is the second post in this part of the topic that you chose not to respond to my last stated argument. Which would indicate that you are out of arguments and therefore defeated, in relative terms.

  • Hey hippo, you subscribe to cutimish, that's all we have to know about you waggish poof.

  • still evading this debate. I've given you enough time to come up with something. Now you leave. Don't bother responding.

  • Oh please, you have no debate, in fact, your pap is only fodder for fools. I will, in fact, re-state, if you don't want me to respond, why do you keep hitting the "reply" link. You slack-jawed HAHAHAHAHAA "waggish poof"

Wow! you really do subscribe to cutiemish!! what a child gawking pervert.

  • btw, you've given me enough time? Like you are some sort of bill collector? Who the holy fuck do you think you are? Your just another thin-skinned sallow wanker. We`re all very bored with your whining. Which we all know, only brits are best at.

  • people confuse classical music as having no soul. Its different than blues. different animal.

Malmsteen may play in the classical pocket a bit too long which can het boring but he does have one of the best vibrato which equals to dead on feel which is a representative of soul...only more mathematical in a sense because thats what classical is. Not abstract and not really 'improv' as in what ever goes which you can do in other styles. It has stricter rules to follow. get my drift?

  • Comparing Yngwie to Hooker is like comparing Steve Martin to Bruce Lee; they don't do the same thing... so why compare? If you want to hear blues, then you don't go to Malmsteen. If you want to hear speedy playing with a touch of classicism, go to Yng or early MacAlpine or certain Uli tunes, etc. Sure, I like Ben Stiller, but he doesn't have Oprah's boobs! Does that make sense? For the record, I love John Lee Hooker, & disagree with the mechanical remark.

  • Yngwie can play with feel and emotion. Awesome tone in his old school days.

  • Thanks again for this song. I used to like the one by Scorpions too!

  • becker is not mechanical...go listen to "RAIN" IN PERSPECTIVE

  • His playing with David Lee Roth was pretty cool. But every time I heard him shred, he sounds like a machine. He is faster than Yngwie but doesn't have his fluidity and grace.

  • It's a scorpions's song played in 1978 in Tokyo for the album "Tokyo Tapes" !

    SCORPIONS RULES

  • Yngwie was to speed metal what Nirvana was to grunge. He was the first and he was the best. I remember sitting around with friends listening to a track off of Rising Force and our jaws dropped. Amazing...all the others that followed were doing imitations of the master.

  • Beatiful version of the classic song japanese

  • Jesus, would you guys shut the fuck up? This is a beautiful piece of music. I'm not a huge Yngwie fan, but COME ON!

  • Yngwie is so passionate! I laugh at the clowns that think he is all "speed". Their ears are trully missing out.

  • Uli and Ritchie BOTH can suck mine and YNGWIE'S MASSIVE DICK'S!

just as good as the origanal, but better.

  • Uli version is thousand times better than this crap version....Malmsteen is the most fast guitarist in the world, it's a pity that he play without heart and emotions...,

is absurd compare the great Uli with this (only thecnical) guitarist !!

  • dude Jason Becker is an all around better guitarist than yngwie but if ur lookin for fast then check out Michael Angelo Batio.... but if ur looking for technical then check out John Petrucci.

  • but Petrucci is so damn boring... and Batio's band was fruity, even for the 80's. Jason Becker was great though,I'll give you that!
