I know that we shouldn't argue about 'best'...but the young Mr. Andrews was lacking in ideas...yes, we know you can hit the high notes...
And before someone flames me...yes, he can play circles around me on bone and trumpet today; it doesn't mean he's infallible and exempt from any criticism. Get off your knees and just listen...
For all the people arguing about who had the best solo... That is NOT what jazz is about. It is all about feeling (ESPECIALLY THE BLUES) All three players expressed great feeling and emotion in there playing (extraordinary considering there ages!!!) They all had very different styles to display there feelings (that makes this performance particularly great!!!) This was not a competition to see who the best was!!
Everyone just enjoy these young players and feel the music!!!
you cannot compare these guys. d. is amazing, and i would agree that his playing is the most interesting here. but shorty has raw power and charisma, and is the most compelling of the three. and , at the end, will be more widely appreciated.
not the intellectualship of Jazz. Yeah play high notes! That'll work! 2 ideas maybe in the whole thing and the rest call and response high crap! Dominick making the changes, rhythmic passages and a lot of ideas, repitition used in a good way, inflections in a good way AMD communicates with the band. Look at it this way there are 3 conversations you have. One doesn't talk alot but when he does it counts!
I've met and played with shorty. and for a 14 year old in this video...well damn....now hes an amazing jazz player on bone and trumpet. as well as a great NEW ORLEANS musician...Showman he is, and unfortunatly thats how people make money with this music sometimes. so lay off...he could probably play circles around you on both instruments while making more money...and you'd have NOTHING to say about it...so FUCK OFF
@dsterud haha youre so right, Ricklee has seriously some of the most ignorant comments. Trombone Shorty is 14 in this! thats like saying michael jordan sucks at basketball cuz he couldnt dunk at 14. troy still had a great feel for the music even if his ideas werent the most inventive. Now Troys going around making appearances in the super bowl and nba all star games and the rock hall of fame while Ricklee is sitting at home talking about how bad Troy is...
I like Brandon , as I went to school with him, and he is a truly nice guy, and the guy could run circles around me, but I think that Dominick took it there.Trombone Shorty!?!? You know the one holding the trumpet?!?! (yeah I know he play t-bone too, but not any better than the trumpet)
These guys are great. Does anyone know where I can find more on Brandon Lee? I heard "Attack of the Vibe" on a local jazz station but I can't find anything else on him.
Brandon Lee, not only a great martial artist but also a great musician...

Awesome. Wynton M is way more than a great trumpet player of our age - he's a custodian of the art form. We are in his debt.
