  • This is nonsense and another example of an old guy not keeping up with an evolving social structure.

  • @BarriosGroupie

    lol!

*implying you know better about social structure than the Stanford professor of Sociology*

  • @hamsterpoop lol... oh I didn't realize he was a Stanford professor of Sociology. Well it undermines the credibility of my opinion in compariosn I guess.

  • How do you know that these girls would be this way without all this media? Maybe they consume all of this information and do these things because they are uncomfortable with themselves socially and emotionally in the first place.

  • @MusicFromG I blame Capitalism for people's greed, ignorance, and idiocy.

If we had a money system, world-wide, which weren't focused on greed, perhaps the products SOLD to the public wouldn't be as dangerous as it has proven to be.

I am referring to TV, which is essentially a propaganda tool -- not for entertainment...

  • @MrVirtualCoder Yeah I agree. A lot of the channels are just ways for republicans to to trick people into siding with them, ie Fox News. And others are just ways to sell products to children.

  • @MusicFromG Republican...White black..Call it what you want, but i don't believe in political parties being different. Essentially, they're the same -- Bullshit talkers, and the good kind.

  • (...contd.) The greater question however is whether or not that proportion of introvert/introspective children is increasing with the increase of technology. Whether the *proportion* of such children has statistically increased from the value 40 years ago. And finally, moving forward, we should also ask whether developing face-to-face social skills are to be given special importance in a society that is evolving towards a technology-based one where online communication is a lot more efficient.

  • I grew up at a time when there was no computers and very limited exposure to television. However I always have been introvert, introspective and have found it difficult to communicate face-to-face. I used to immerse into my own studies and plays. Had there been the internet, I would probably have resorted to internet instead. So it is not the internet or television to blame... they are just resorts or outlets of introversion. Some people are by birth less social and more introspective.

  • "You're more likely to get a like if your post something positive than something negative." I wonder who pays these people..

  • i'm 29 and i never had girlfriend.

And i don't have friends either.

i hate my life, i hate myself, i want to die.

this is not because of internet, that's because i am worthless looser.

    have a nice day!

  • @odv000

never think that you are a looser .Because if you thint that you are a looser ,then you will be a looser and if u think the inverse . Than you will get that ,hope so

  • he needs to sit still

  • Nass says in the video that if the girls have lots of face to face time, they can have "high amounts of these other forms of communication and do just fine". So it's not too much Internet that's the issue, it's the lack of face-to-face time. The blurb under the video blames endless hours of watching videos and multitasking but from the study it's clear that it's the lack of face-to-face time, not the presence of technology. The tech involved seems irrelevant.

  • @everybodyhasabrain i would say he intended to say technology is taking our time we could use for face-to-face interactions.

  • @bamboopoem1989 But the study shows that girls who use the Internet frequently and have lots of face time, don't experience diminished emotional development. So technology doesn't necessarily replace human interaction. They're not exclusive. The logic of the study and the blurb under the video is problematic. It's like saying girls who wear purple and don't interact with other people experience diminished emotional development, and therefore, purple is bad.

  • I agree with everything, except for the "looking in the eyes" part. People who are the best at looking you in the eyes are sociopaths, because they train themselves to do it and they're often very hypnotizing. In many cultures looking in the eye is not common, and yet people don't have trouble getting along and expressing emotions. What's important is being engaged in a conversation, and eye contact can still be minimal.

  • You can also call them "tweetage" girls.

  • My fear with with youtube and social media going forward is an acceleration of what I experienced as a teen during the nineties with star trek and who wants to be a millionaire. My mom would watch tv from the moment she came home till the time she went to sleep. I know everyone needs time to relax, but how can I have any type of serious conversation for 3 minutes at a time during the commercials? Youtube, twitter and facebook is social crack. Just be aware of how it effects those around you
