It was parlour that opened this show. Even though i was trippin balls i still remember this show. one of the best i've ever seen. Che scared the shit out of me!
Was this the first Fireside show? If it is this was like one of the best shows of my life. It was the first Fireside show they did and so being also the first 18+ show they did in Chicago I think. I had seen them before other places but the energy at this show was above and beyond anything I have ever experienced. The crowd and the band seemed to be made of electricity that night.
I was there at that show! It was absolutely awesome! Ian was hopping around chewing gum and blowing bubbles the whole time. I don't understand how he was able to do that and still play all his intricate tapping wizardry... And The Fireside! What a great venue!
This is the way that Ian Williams has chosen to make music with the guitar. Do you know anything about music, and the relations between notes (intervals)?
It seems that you dont...
"How good he is?". I dont know what "good" means to you (maybe Paco De Lucia, or some heavy metal nonsense...) but your commentary is ridiculous.
Why dont you try and take away Kandinsky`s colour palette, and see how "good" he draws?!?!
I agree with your statement but don't take a crack at metal; if it's a subjective opinion your giving (whether or not his use of pedals is considered "good") you should respect the individual styles of music that are out there and not discard them as nonsense.
Well said, mate. But let`s take a look out there... You might say that Don Cab`s guitar player can be considered as an individual. This is based in his playing style and his approach to music composition.
But when I spoke about "metal nonsense", I wanted to highlight the enormous quantity of musicians who play almost exactly the same music within metal aesthetic. It would be really hard to say the same about Ian Williams! It`s not easy to develope a personal style, you know. Too much zombies!
That's valid and I do agree metal has alot of carbon copies of each other so it's easy to dismiss the genre in that way; I for one don't like 95% of metal. And again I am sure that there are people who play exactly the same way as Ian williams due to similar visions but he is pretty unique I'll give him that. Don't get me wrong I think don cab is sick but I'm sure there are similarities with other bands.
yea, ive been using the looping setting on my line 6 dl4 delay, its alright, but im looking into a better looper, possibly the boss rc 20, im not sure yet
Dl4 is cool. I have one too. But, of course, one is not enough! RC 20 (or his big brother RC 50!) must be fucking amazing! Also, there is a new version of the famous digitech Jamman.
What can I say. Looping is a pleasure, and a fantastic way to expand one`s musical abilities. Of course that Ian Williams is a terrific example!
But not only technically. He is a great composer, and a very unusual one! Check, for example, "Haven`t lived afro pop". Otherworldly!
yeah thanks I found it in the end using the preview thingy on i-tunes. Doesn't seem like he does that intro on the record though :( I bought two akai headrush pedals on the basis of this intro!
Does anyone know what show this was? was it the show the fucking champs opened? if so i was at that show, seems like forever ago. oh yeh i think euphone opened for the fucking champs. someone help iam going crazy.
this is a show from I believe late july or early aug '00. at the fireside bowl and I think the fucking champs opened for them in oct. '99. dianogah opened for them at this show.
i still prefer their new stuff to battle, i did not at first but it grew on me, and i have been a die hard don cab fan since don cab 2 so give it a chance :x
don cab is a totally different band without williams. wtf was damon thinking using the old name. sure he is a hella good drummer but cmon.. it just aint the same band..
They write new ones, the new cd's called World Class Listening Problem, google it for reviews and whatnot. I like it quite a bit, but I'm a bit partial to the, new Don Cab, so my judgment might not be the best.
Don Cab 2 was influenced heavily by the short-lived Richmond group "Breadwinner". But this, this is just something else entirely...

Sorry everyone, it was euphone that opened this show. Parlour is a band from my hometown, Louisville. Oh yeah Slint invented math rock by the way!
shahlagoddess 3 years ago
hmmmm... Slint were more post-rocky. But thats a pointless argument anyways. Let's just say they were bloody brilliant.

All opinions besides meidcal ones are subjective dikwaaad. You don't have to respect every type of music if you don't want to you pious fadge-biro.

Ian Williams was influenced by hardcore punk and heavy metal: just listen to Don Caballero 2, it was more apparent during this time.
I should know, I'm the smartest person on the internet.
