  • RE: last comment for those that don't know - Ednah Holt was on backing vocals - her cosmic new wave disco hit 'Serious, serious Space Party' is a cosmic classic... Knuckles, Mojo, et al played it in the early 80s - pro to house/techno classic...

  • This is one serious, serious space party!!! New wave/cosmic disco heads will get the reference.... (watch?v=3Pr4OuWZHlU)

  • Fuck! I usually prefer studio takes but Stop Making Sense is astonishing and 'This must be the place' is one of the greatest pop songs of all time... Marriage made in heaven, pure pop heaven!!!

  • the talking heads are amazing this is my favorite song by them

  • These are live vocals. Other parts of the concert have him very far back from the mic and he is picked up fine.

  • It might also be the sync during the upload/convert process too.

  • one of my most favorite talking heads songs ever

  • Is Davey miming? 5:05 and he doesn't have the mic but you can here his voice.

    Sat it isn't so.

  • you're right. man, i feel kinda gutted.

  • it could have just been the girls

    but yyou could bey right

  • i was wondering the same thing because his mouth doesn't match up with the voice when he's done dancing with the lamp.

  • Professional mics pick up from a good range... he was close enough for it to pick him up properly.

  • yeah I kinda wish you hadn't pointed that out... maybe they went back and fixed the audio? wishful thinking

  • @1nedkelly Video and audio were probably from different shows as several nights were recorded and filmed. The lamp dancing close ups were possibly captured on a different night that the audio was performed.

  • There loving it aren't they. Acknowledgement between guitarist and keyboard player is almost heart warming. The songs unique beauty helps of course... What a great song!

  • Spettacolo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ya dont see enough lamp dancing anymore....

  • the first time i heard this song was on the movie lars & the real girl. loved it ever since.

  • Hey thats when i heard it too lol also love the smiths. :D

  • Comment removed

  • i guess i'm just behind in my time because i've been listening to alot of 60-80's music. the new stuff just doesn't do anything for me. except for airborne toxic event, they're pretty cool.

  • Best Concert DVD of ALL time.

    Incredible and beautiful song

Tina is SO sexy in this dvd :)

  • This is the first song I ever downloaded off the internet back in 2000. I'd never heard it before an internet friend in California suggested it to me. Great song!

  • Best damn internet friend you ever had!

  • Quite possibly this is the greatest song ever written.

  • I agree.

  • lol tina is so good looking in stop making sense.

  • The lead singer reminds me of Cillian Murphy.

  • u refer to david byrne as " the singer"

  • I want a girl like Tina!

  • I hear that... I play bass, she plays bass (among other instruments)... Heaven...

  • talking heads are one of the most innovative creative bands ever. Truly ahead of there time. Tribal beats, intelligent lyrics, and synthesizers collapasing into falsetto bliss. This is the stuff where great fashion is born!

  • is this female play a 6 strings bass?

  • is a female bass player playing a guitar.

  • Music just doesnt get any better than "Stop Making Sense"

  • this is music, real music. not that crap-for-masses x-factor manufactured shit.

  • hear hear!

  • What Tina is laughing so much?

  • AHH, a simpler time! When my day is F*kd up @ work, I repeat play this in my ipod.

  • "And you can love me 'til my heart stops,

    Love me 'til I'm dead"

A basic description of love, and a beautiful one at that. God bless the Talking Heads.

And I wondered what was making that high pitched rhythm part. Thanks Tina Weymouth...for everything you did for Talking Heads...

  • nah lol no steez in his swagger

  • Wow...I'm only familiar with the mainstream TH. This was excellent!

  • Get the whole concert

. and check out live in rome aswell.

  • Yeah! I just bought their "Best of" and am going to get Remain In Light as well. Thanks!

  • Two songs I always enjoy are life during wartime, from this concert, and girlfriend is better. Too much funk for one band.

  • i love this song! thanks for posting

  • I absolutely adore this song. The thing I love most about the whole film is how much of a good time they are all having.

  • It's because they have lots of butt secks.

  • this is one of the greatest songs ever written. and i like the way he dances, punk!

  • I agree with your first statement.

  • motherfuckin david still cant dance for shit hahaha

    great band though

  • DAVID BYRNE!!! what a legend!!! I remember this tune on the end of wall street Epic 80s!!!!!!

  • It played during the movie too. The song and the movie are both pure win. Greed is going to save America. Greed is good.

  • wow

    wow

  • i love how he dances with the lamp. like your crazy uncle. expcept a genius.

  • Perhaps, the most talented artist. D.B.

  • ur right, not possibly-this is the greatest song ever,no doubt about it!

  • i love penis

  • in your gob

  • This song defines the 80's.

  • defines a lifetime.

  • Is it just me or did they all slow down very slightly when he started singing?

  • good call

  • posibly the greatest song ever....

  • It is...

  • jimmy silva is a bitch

  • Excelent !! I love this song, even much more tahn once in a lifetime.... those were the great years....!!

Love tina from talking heads, what a nice blondie !!

  • It works. Byrne is fearless thoughful and idiosyncratic. Ambience.

    -GSG-

Everything you can imagine is real.

    Pablo Picasso

  • All Scotsmen can Dance.

  • It is a sacred/faith-in-humanity-giving-moment between 2:50 and 2:56 when keys and guitar finish the solo in unison and the joy registers on the guitar player's face. Love that! YEAH.

  • talking heads are da shit

  • lol lamp dance

  • what a beauty! bravooo wish i wrote this.

  • Yeah, those two backup singers do it for me, especially the one on the right. So cute.

  • both very cute my man, unity

  • Love This Song :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Never for money, always for love.

  • What a creative way to put on a concert. I love how they all get into it and the performance builds to a crescendo. Nice, classic stuff. I actually first took notice of this song in the movie, "Wall Street" because it sounded so good.

  • The less we say about it, the better. But, one of my all-time favorite songs, by one of the very best new wave post-punk bands.

  • im in love with those two background singers! i read somewhere that they are from the brides of funkenstein

  • yes! brad cromer!

  • lovely song!

  • brad cromer

  • i dunno why , but i love this song ... i once listened to it all day...on my way to work ... my way home... it's just that kind of song.. you just love it or hate it

  • i listen to this song a lot when I'm on the way to work and home too. Usually gets me in a good mood for the day

  • Of all those kinds of people

You have a face with a view.

I´m just an animal lookiing for a home

share the same space for a minute or two....

  • This has to be one of the coolest songs by Talking Heads. David Byrne had his own way of viewing the world and is fun to look through his proverbial window, but this song in particular makes me actually wanna jump through that window and join them.

  • I want to be Tina Weymouth

  • She is cool!

  • there was a time, before we were born;

if someone asks this is where i'll be.

    an awesome experience!

  • .:Excellent:.

  • Uber Sweet chune.

  • a great song

  • A beautiful song. A testament to every Talking Head. Special props to Tina Weymouth for the rhythm track.

  • its really cool how you can hear things from the video compared to the audio recording, the video is a little more raw and the audio is a little more "fixed"(not that either is better, but the differences are very cool). The audio of these background vocalists is amazing, so defined especially the three part harmony towards the end with the "aah-oooh..." very attractive work.

  • this song makes me feel a little crazy,i love it.

  • HAIRY PUSSY 80th!

  • soundtrack really makes the film,- Wall Street

  • one of the best songwriters ever, byrne is simply a musical phenomenon.

  • Oh, and this is one of the best song of all time by any band. The dancing with the lamp is just icing on the cake--David Byrne rules.

  • There are a ton of great picture opportunities in this performance, especially when he wraps his arms around the lamp as it tilts.

  • awesome

  • This song takes me back...

  • my fav song by the talking heads

    they rock!

  • Hotty Watty Botty

  • genius....

  • one of my favorite songs of all time , i use to listen to this shit a mess load of times

  • My dog always knocks over the lamp.

  • Oh God, I love this song. I'm going along all the comments giving everybody thumbs up because this song is so beautiful; I want to show the world that nothing is wrong, look, David Byrne's dancing with a lamp.

  • Nice One :)

  • he kinda reminds me of an ostrich

    but damn good song though

  • Seriously, if you want to talk about Nirvana go post on one of their pretentious as hell songs.

Leave the Talking Heads out of it.

  • I meant underrated in the comment below btw, stupid me!

Those dancers were great, talented and sexy too.

  • Not only is David Byrne a genius who seems sadly ovverrated today but every person behind STOP MAKING SENSE, including Jonathan Demme, should be proud of what they did. When I was little boy this was played all the time and it still makes me in awe everytime i see/hear it.

  • Story telling giant is also wonderful

  • AH! that movie is ssoooo great!!

    weird but ADORABLE AND SAD

  • iv hunted this song down because is heard it playing in the film Lars and the real girl by the way everyone should watch it, A really good film clearly even better with the addition of this talking heads song.

  • Hey Turnsey, Limp Bizkit and Fred Durst suck..they suck fat, hairy, cancerous testicles.

Jesus H. Christ do they suck.

  • This is my boy. RISD. The best.

  • Yeah, let's give it up to the Rays. My Red Sox are out, but the Rays did it.

  • He was clearly enjoying that lamp haha. Love Byrne.. such a great artist

  • WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!!

  • I could listen to this all day, in fact, I think I will.

    Work sucks.

  • This album is number two on my list of top concert albums number one would be Nirvana Unplugged

  • born in 79? me too, I fell in between the old and the new.

  • This is the single best live performance I ever witnessed. Been going to concerts since 1968. Second is every Bowie show.

  • i have to agree nirvana unplugged is definatly number 1

  • nirvana unplugged doesn't even deserve to be in the same conversation as stop making sense. this is easily the best "concert movie" ever.

  • Without a doubt you are so correct-blows away all -including gimmeshelter .

  • i don't really see a point to the video

but i like the song alot

  • Its from a recored concert called Stop Making Sense.

  • Super, superb.

  • Astral!

  • This song is pure win. It's in the movie Wall Street.

  • sublime... Love this song!

  • my all time favourite i luv this song

  • HoME!!!!...IS wHeRE i WaNt To Be..picK me up AnD turN mE ARoUNd *Camie* My Home is with you :-X

  • I love this song! What a classic. Can't wait 'til come home to me, honey :-x

  • all these bands around nowadays can fuck right off, none of them have got the invention or originality of talking heads,TALKING HEADS WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD!!

  • Yeahhh!!! You´re totally right !!

  • Its definatly layers above what is produced now, I'm 24 and I love it, It makes me teary eyed and I've heard it many many times.

  • nice one,its a beautiful song by a great band

  • I see where you are trying to go with that comparison, and I must disagree. As absolutely badass as Radiohead may be, they will never be on par with the talking heads.

  • Not about quality. They´re just different.

  • There will never be another Talking Heads. But the closest contemporary band, IMO, is Radiohead. Hell, Thom Yorke was a huge fan of Talking Heads and David Byne. The band's name was taken from a Talking Heads song "Radio Head"--they just merged the two words. I just think Radiohead tries to push the envolope of contemporary music like Talking Heads did in their day.

  • yah, this song is brilliant.

  • this is pound for pound the best song ever, literally...it is like a fact

  • outstanding song. I will always conect it with Wall Street movie directed by Oliver Stone in 1987.

  • A touching song about the love between a man and a stage lamp.

  • this is it. this is the best song

  • i am completely obsessed by this song right now. i wish i could write lyrics like that.

  • TH. Good people!

  • Superb song :)

  • this is the best song of the 80s... absolutely makes me happy. much love for byrnes and eno

  • This song always makes me smile!

  • I can't believe David Byrne is strong enough to hold this lamp up!

  • Hey! Is David Byrne miming this?? Check out at 3:24 when he sings the the "...where I'll be." for the second time. He pulls the mic away from his mouth yet the sound of his voice sounds like the microphone is still planted close to his mouth.

Don't get me wrong, I love this album, but that bit has got me wondering. Hmmmm.

    See what you think.

  • i think they overdubbed the best film footage with the best live audio... so that might be why things don't match up all the time. they filmed 3 consecutive days of the tour and put together the best parts.

  • I think you are right. I prefer dubbed though. It always seems to sound better unless you are actually there. With the exception of Bob Marley's "no women no cry"

  • I agree with you, but this concert was digitally re-mastered, so with the editing it was probably overlooked.

  • shit, ur right. Good observation, I kept playing it over and over. But who cares, IT WAS AWESSSOOOOOME!!! ahooo whoo whooo whooo!!!

  • you know, audio from things like this is remastered over the years, and fixed. If you look on any live album you will see it says studio work in the credits. The audio might not have even been from this show, you get me ? Patch it up

  • This just reinforces my giant crush on David Byrne. Before he got all oldish anyways.

    Brilliant song! :D

  • what an amazing song, i'd give my left nut to be at that performance

  • was born the year after they recorded this and cant get enough of it... just wish music networks showed more of this stuff nowadays

  • I love them!!!Awesome,great..never for money..always for love...great!!!

who knows something about david, tina chris and jerry?what they are doing now..in this time?married?songs?children?thanks for answer!!!

  • Tina & Chris are married with kids, still playing as the Tom Tom Club on occasion I think. Jerry is a producer...he's done the production on some pretty big recent records, though I can't recall specifics.

And David is being David, doing performance art and shows. In fact...I'm going to see him perform with Brian Eno in..ohhh...10 days or so :) Can't wait.
