  • Every single time you rinse food, you strip more and more vitamins and/or minerals it contains.

After just a couple of rinsings, one will completely mock the nutritive value any food initially contained.

    Not imho, not imo. Fact.

  • This video should be: How to wash Japanese Rice under a tap lol.

  • lol rice mainly just washing

  • WOW RINSED 9 TIMES

  • @iamaGod357 You have to take into account how much rice is in that bowl... sure if you had just 1 cup you wouldn't have to rinse it was much as 4-5 cups. Less rice = less starch to remove = less rinsing.

  • When its cooked can you make rice balls with it or isn't it sticky enough??

  • yes u can but ur gonna wanan get some salt, and water, dip ur hands in the salt water and then mold the rice purpose of the salt water is so that the rice doesnt stick

  • TOWMBO says it tastes funny if you don't rinse it, err.. in her words were "tastes bad". We use American Grown Long Grain, Japanese / Korean Style. Other types are Chinese, Thai, Indian, Spanish, even Uncle Ben's Rice, all with totally different tastes and textures. My mum makes rissotto, Italian style with Parmesan cheese and chicken broth. Very different to egg fried rice, or Mexican Rice and Beans!

  • What does rinsing the rice do to the finished product? I am all ears because my rice is, well....not as great as the local Chinese resturant.

  • it removes the starch from the rice.

  • My local chinese restaurant has really bad rice actually :P

  • I almost have it mastered. It's a science not an art. Just a little too much water and you get crap. Tip the lid for a second...Crap...How can it be this dificult. I wish it was like pasta, boil water add noodle test drain eat. With rice you might as well make enriched uranium.

  • @vaiol123 Chinese and Japanese is different things.

  • What if you don't have a rice cooker, how much are they?

  • @Samgurney88 You get what you pay for.

In the USA and Canada, there are some out there for $35-$50 (Usually the ones for 35 are on sale) and they can be as expensive as $550.

If you live in Japan, 3,000¥ is low/average, and 80,000¥ is for a high tech one.

If you aren't in either of those places, try searching on Amazon or looking in a local mall/appliance store.

  • never saw rice cooker.

  • It bugs the heck out me that it takes so long to wash the starch off the rice! You've got much more patience than I have. Instead of washing it that many times I cover with water and let soak and then repeat four or so times.

  • Yeah, damn, I rinse mine like twice and I'm done.

  • You're waiting 20+ minutes for it to cook anyway, may as well do it right and get rice that tastes better.
