I would stop reproduction for 3 reasons in addition to there being the risk of the child being born HIV+. @FrancisDelaTorre : HIV transmission lips to lips is very low. For HIV to transmit via mouth the two people would have to have to open sores in their mouth with direct contact to each other. The reason condoms are not 100% affective is because they don't protect against every STI such as warts, herpes , HPV and pubic lice. Also because condoms can split on rare occasions, condom companies also say they aren't 100% affective because they need to protect themselves against compensation claims.

I would stop reproduction for 3 reasons in addition to there being the risk of the child being born HIV+. First, if the child was born HIV-, it's parents would still be pos and would unlikely be around long enough to raise the child to adulthood. Second, there is already many children without parents; adopt if you want kids.

if you have money, you can survive being HIV positive. there is enough medicine and supportive care to get you through another 20+ years - look at magic johnson. certain types of cancers are something that are difficult to beat and unlike AIDS, there are many factors that can cause cancer. 2nd leading cause of death in the US: cancer. What if we can test each others before having sex? There is oral HIV test kit available right now. If that kit is cheaper then condom we can test each others before having sex. If we can do that, there will be no HIV infection 10 years from now. While developing vaccine or medication why not develop oral test kit more effective. Maybe test result less then 5 min. We all carrying this oral HIV test kit in the pocket and use it before sex. I think this idea is most cheapest way to win!

My Father worked as a Govt. policy advisor for many years & was widely admired. At his funeral last year, countless tributes testified to his passion & energy.
However, reading his diaries it’s clear that he took a ‘radical’ line on AIDS in the 1980s & that this hindered his career. In many meetings he spoke of his ‘pleasure’ that a “righteous plague is eradicating homosexuals & other perverts”, saying that access to condoms should be severely restricted. I had no idea he held these views.

@Justpooinabush - there are diseases people have given up on or simply don't have enough funding to cure. diabetes, cancer, etc. have supportive care, not cure. with cancer, there is recurrence. unlike other diseases, HIV has been given a lot of attention, and money to come up with medicine so the patient can survive. so it is wrong to say resources aren't spent on HIV

I really hope they do find a definitive cure for aids/HIV/cancer. Plus the treatment for HIV/AIDS is FREE in the UK, so big pharma isn't making any money off of that.
