I usually like CGR reviews. I think they're relaxing,casual and generally informative. But I can't help but cringe when he compares K&L 2 to Splinter Cell: Conviction. Granted,SPC was not a shining example of traditional stealth. But still ,SPC was about killing people in the shadows. It's not quite as "IN YOUR FACE!!!!" as Kain and Lynch 2. Both are fun though.

i genuinely liked this game. great atmosphere and gritty style but admittedly the guns were quite poor which made it frustrating at times. having seen ALL those films you've mentioned (great list btw) i don't think this was based on heroic bloodshed movies in terms of story or character development. clearly this was trying to achieve a more realistic take so to make the characters likeable while they traverse the chinese criminal underworld on a killing spree would've been morally shady at best.

Man this game is cool. If you have any doubts play the demo. It's certainly not worth the initial $60 price tag due to it's short campaign, but for $20 or less you can't go wrong. It's like playing through a B action movie with great actors and great visual effects for 5 hours. Every person here has paid $7-$10 to see at least 1 movie which they've then spent $10-$15 to purchase on DVD. That's upwards of $25 for a repeat 2 hour experience. This game is a much better investment. Play the demo.

Man this game sucks! I rented it today and after 5hours I returned it. I beat the game in about 3 hours. The story and action are average. And the MP...The MP is the crappiest ever. The MP mode sounded very interesting but there is literally no one in the lobby. The only gamemode I played was the first one because the rest had no one on. And once I was playing a game mode the game went bullshit lag fest disaster. Players were warping back and forth. MP was broken. Don't even rent this game guys.

Bought it, havn't got to play it yet but judging from the demo it was pretty much improved in everything from the first game. The first i enjoyed the story/ characters but the shooting/ non-working cover system ruined it allot. These two problems seem to have been fixed. And as for the characters being unlikeable its true. They are bad people who do terrible things.

I have to disagree with the review, the characters are assholes, yes, but they're assholes you feel sorry for, Lynch is basically a bald psycho who kills people just for looking at him funny and Kane is a failed, Widowed father and retired mediocre mercenary. The camera-work was pretty innovative, with the whole camera phone thing, the multiplayer was incredibly original and fun and the gunplay was very solid.
Well, to be honest, I haven't been allowed to even get within 13 yards of an M rated game until recently, and even then it's JUST been Oblivion. I turn 17 in some few days, and the ban is going to thin out a little.
@TDUShelby If you're studying filming, get the first game, not this one. This is just gonna teach you what NOT to do. The first game's a better example. Not a particularly good example, compared to say, GTA IV or The Getaway series, but a better example nonetheless.
Well, the reason for "film study" being... well, let's face it, it's an interesting technique used in the game, and games like GTA IV and The Getaway use filming techniques that can be found in several well-known movies. K&L 2 uses a very unorthodox camera which fascinates me.
I just want to see as many styles as possible, not necessarily for actual filming.

@goldensolder44 The titular characters are an amalgamation of movie characters. That explains why Kane and Lynch are one-note, thinly written clichés.
The reason they aren't "likable" is because the characters realistic. The things they do aren't. If your a criminal your not gonna look good or at act completely professional or calm, your going to be a crude, harsh, and overall a bad person. I have to say Kane and Lynch captures that personality very well I have to say. This is the one review I didn't particularly like.
I had hopes for this game, not sure how the first one warranted a sequel. Seems I will completely ignore its existence until one day when I am bored of the much better games I own, and see it for a low price on steam.

There are plenty of wonderful, groundbreaking titles being produced, such as Okami and Portal, that are creatively rich and inventive, full of lush and inviting stories. I will, however, concede that large developers are often concerned with evolving staples and marquee titles/characters for predictable revenue than revolutionizing with groundbreaking titles.
Ultimately, we the gamers and buying public have to tell devs we demand more original titles.

@Hariuka I agree in a way, but if you look at nintendos games the basic formula of "fun" is still there. The wii is looked down on, as a weak console, but when you play a game like super mario galaxy you forget all that, you just enjoy the game, it is fun, but the mainstream of gamers today only care for hd graphics and hardcore, but it is getting old..but if more gamers start to turn to the oldschool games, maby the newer games start to be like the old classics?

i played through this with my friend when it came out....suprisingly short. good game though, had some fun with it

I have to disagree with the review, the characters are assholes, yes, but they're assholes you feel sorry for, Lynch is basically a bald psycho who kills people just for looking at him funny and Kane is a failed, Widowed father and retired mediocre mercenary. The camera-work was pretty innovative, with the whole camera phone thing, the multiplayer was incredibly original and fun and the gunplay was very solid.

@TDUShelby If you're studying filming, get the first game, not this one. This is just gonna teach you what NOT to do. The first game's a better example. Not a particularly good example, compared to say, GTA IV or The Getaway series, but a better example nonetheless.

Well, the reason for "film study" being... well, let's face it, it's an interesting technique used in the game, and games like GTA IV and The Getaway use filming techniques that can be found in several well-known movies. K&L 2 uses a very unorthodox camera which fascinates me.
I just want to see as many styles as possible, not necessarily for actual filming.

This has to be one of my favorite TPS I've played in a while. Before this, I was playing Mafia 2, and I have to admit, the aiming was pretty bad... Not to mention the best visual design EVER! It's a good game, very disturbing story, but in a good way!

I normally like your reviews but i whole heartily disagree with this one, first you had your idea of the characters all wrong, using the tagline from the game real aint pretty, a duo of criminals working in hong kong aren't gonna be rugged but likeable guys, also i saw that you brushed the multi-player off like it was nothing and a little thing just added in, when its actually extremely innovative and has game types Ive yet to see in any other game.

The reason they aren't "likable" is because the characters realistic. The things they do aren't. If your a criminal your not gonna look good or at act completely professional or calm, your going to be a crude, harsh, and overall a bad person. I have to say Kane and Lynch captures that personality very well I have to say. This is the one review I didn't particularly like.

Scarface has is one of the more recognizable tragic, anti-hero's in modern cinema and, despite Montana's perchance for brutality and violence, the audience is often left cheering for Montana to prevail against all the odds that stand in his way - including himself.
Kane & Lynch is a game that lacks the creative writing necessary to convey cohesiveness and intelligence to the otherwise senseless and inanity of the characters' actions.

(the gta theme for both) since gta san andreas came it became either a movie storyline or pretty explosions form what I noticed....it such a great game too and yet it started the ruining of games today(in my view) this game is fun looking for todays audience but for others who dont want pretty or MOVIE EPIC, it is a sad lifespan for you

There are plenty of wonderful, groundbreaking titles being produced, such as Okami and Portal, that are creatively rich and inventive, full of lush and inviting stories. I will, however, concede that large developers are often concerned with evolving staples and marquee titles/characters for predictable revenue than revolutionizing with groundbreaking titles.
Ultimately, we the gamers and buying public have to tell devs we demand more original titles.

@Hariuka I don't know how you view or approach video games, but I don't think the medium is anywhere near death or the video game crash 1983.
There are exceptions that have stifled entire sections of gaming representation, one of which could have to be EA's regurgitated, monopolistic holding over the NFL football license.

@Hariuka I agree in a way, but if you look at nintendos games the basic formula of "fun" is still there. The wii is looked down on, as a weak console, but when you play a game like super mario galaxy you forget all that, you just enjoy the game, it is fun, but the mainstream of gamers today only care for hd graphics and hardcore, but it is getting old..but if more gamers start to turn to the oldschool games, maby the newer games start to be like the old classics?
