@PhillyC187 This was also my favorited Edwards song. way back in 1959 a girl trird to teach me to dance to this song. That was a lost cause I still have two left feet. But the song I never fotgot.
Another of those great haunting songs from the 50's. Probably one of the first records to tell the story of an older man falling in love with a younger girl.. Yes, it's true. Listen to the words, the hidden meaning is in there . Love it. Love has no age barriers. (Been there, done that and certainly got the t shirt! If you love him - go get him. Ignore the "number!") Message for Flakeyokie64...it's available on CD now!
@imthedorf1964 Tommy Edwards recorded this song in 1951. It was hia first charted hit. Then after he re-recorded "It's All In The Game" and was such a hugh hit in 1958, he re-recorded this song and other one such as "Please Mr Sun" again. The did alright but not near as well as "It's All In The Game".
@markalson1938 I figure that`s not so sad making it to well inside the top 40 back in `58. Don`t forget Billboards rankings were based on record sales and us teeners weren`t buying all the records in `58. The official top 40 charts came from radio stations back when. We teeners phoned in &requested or voted for our top 3 songs & that`s why Sugar Plum (ike Clanton) peaked at no.2 here on Vancouvers CFUN radio. Reason I say that is cause it peaked at no. 95 on theirs(sad). THX
@faeryquene Your very welcome, this Tommy's recording of this song always had special meaning for me. A very special girl at the time who lived on the side of a Mountain in Morgantown WV tried to teach me to dance to it.
@faeryquene Tommy was so special. He had such a smooth and silky sounding voice. When he sang it was like he was telling a very special story to music. He is part of what made the music of the 50's so great. Tommy we'll never forget you
This song always had a very special meaning for me also. Way back in 1960 a young girl who lived on a Mountain outside of Morgantown WV tried to teach me to dance to this song. Shortly there after I guess I went over the Hill and reijoined the Army and I never saw her again. But this song still reminds me of her.
I miss a talk young guy (Korean?) who took a heavy parcel (actual weight: 8.425kg) to the post office for me. I should invite him for coffee afterward. We met on the way to Sheppard Centre in the afternoon of July 11 (Saturday), 2009. I will never see him again!
An incredible voice. This guy had one of the smoothest voices ever. I have his greatest hits cd. When I was in the 3rd grade, he came out with "It's all in the game". That was my fav song that year.
This song was good enough to chart in the Top 40 eight years apart -- No. 24 nationally in 1951 and No. 27 in 1959. Tommy Edwards is, of course, more famous for his smash hit, "It's All In The Game," which spent six weeks in the No. 1 spot in late 1958.
Tommy Edwards was born on this date in 1922... {Feb. 17th}
Sadly, Mr. Edwards passed away on October 22nd, 1969... R.I.P.

I love Tommy, but I just realized, he almost sounds like what Tiger Woods would sound like if he could sing.

And you and I are just like they
For all we know our love is just a kiss away
But you are on the morning side of the mountain
And I am on the twilight side of the hill

I love this song. I love the orchestration, the male/female back-up vocals, the tinking little piano. Just timeless.
It's too bad what happened to music after about 1964 or so
